For the stat guys here, what is the record for biggest Check-Out difference in the game's history? I would assume this is rather close.

Punch-a-Bunch: Nice bailout.
Bargain Game: Tricky. But then again, trips to Hawaii can be expensive these days.
Lucky Seven: I thought for sure she had the Scion. But at least she went the distance. Too bad she didn't listen to her friend.
Check-Out: Cheap GPs.
Cover-Up: I knew the 1 was the next-to-last digit.
Push Over: Great Vespa win to prevent a winless show!

Everything else: Meh, except for the Crowd Surfin' before the 4th One Bid. That was totally far out!

As I predicted, this was downright shameful.

Some of the setups weren't that easy to start with, especially Cover Up..........I totally hit the nail on the head with that one ($18,514).

L7 and Check Out was just diabolical.

I also knew that Tyler should've picked Hawaii instead of Colorado on Bargain Game..........Just because Colorado looks cheap, doesn't mean it is cheap.

And what was up with Jamal and Tyler making the same bid ($24,000)? What is this, the Halloween special from 2009?! Either way, that led to a DOB, as I know what was gonna happened from the last few seconds of the promo.

$2500 on Punchy and a moped on Pushy being won seemed too.......meh.

Bottom line: Despite the clever thing of Cover Up by replacing the wrong numbers with Greek letters which the production crew try to make say "Price", the writing was on the wall of this being a dud.........If not, a bigger one than last season's. My apologies if I come off being scornful, but it is what it is.

When was the last time someone earned less than 4 punches in Punch-a-Bunch? It seems like all the contestants have been earning the maximum number of punches for at least the last season or so, unless I have a bad memory.

Surprisingly, this seems to be the first time this season that the punches in Punch-a-Bunch weren't gimmes (only the second time this year not all punches were earned).

I thought Bargain Game was a trick considering the trip for 2 more nights was $2k less.

Lucky Seven was really nice considering going all 5's produced a win.

Check-Out was, despite the cheap products, almost favoring a loss. I don't buy eyeshadow, but I pretty sure $1.49 is about as low as you can go.

On the other hand, it seemed that Cover Up was set up for Jamal to only get the first number right on the first try, therefore increasing the odds.

And a easy Pushover saves us from no wins.

Tough showcase luck, but at least they were in the ballpark.

Premal crowd surfing was quite funny, until he fell getting down. That's when it became hilarious.  :-)

I think this show should have went better than it did.

I doubt if that promo proved anything. I thought those last few seconds were for the promo only.

Well, from seeing Drew, the models, and George standing together like that, I just knew that there was gonna be a DOB.

I don't know what it is about these college shows, but they just never seem to go all that well no matter how they're set up, whether it be through contestants making weird decisions or just plain old bad luck. That scanner in Punch A Bunch was probably the hardest SP we've seen in there in 2 years, and I think they did in fact want it to be missed, but the cooler should have been gotten. I suppose a rare setting up for 3 in a budget situation is OK. I appreciate how it is continuing to be less predictable what will be hard - L7 for an expensive car left relatively open, but C/O for a cheap prize very hard. It makes the show more watchable. Unfortunately the thing I will remember this show most for is the crowdsurfing come on down - I wonder if they knew that was going to happen or not but it just looked dumb :)

Oh, the showcases were cheap but I don't think they necessarily wanted a DOB either. Blah.

Timings:
Punch A Bunch (5.5) - 6:20
Bargain Game (3.5) - 3:52
Lucky $even (4.5) - 3:53
Check-Out (5.5) - 5:22
Cover Up (5) - 5:08
Push Over (4) - 3:25
Total (28): 28:00 (well then...)

Definitely bad luck. That's all it is.

Well, from seeing Drew, the models, and George standing together like that, I had a gut feeling that there was gonna be a DOB.
I didn't think so. I figured it'd be promo-exclusive.

But I wish they wouldn't show "spoilers" like that in promos, just in case.

One of the rare shows I actually got to watch... and boy was it not worth it - 1/6 and a DOB is about par for the course recently, but that doesn't make it any more watchable.

Punch wasn't too bad, all things considered - Tianna made the best choice she could and should be happy with her $2,500. Likewise, good to see Joslyn save the show on Push by not overvaluing the Vespa.

Bargain, IMO, really should have been won (Hawaii, even being the more expensive price, I knew right away was a lot more than $4K), but I'm wondering if Drew hamming up the 4N vs. 6N swayed Tyler's decision a bit. Cover Up, not so much... those last two digits prove to be a big stumbling block for yet another contestant.

Check-Out, I won't say it was set up for a loss, but the eyeshadow and mousse singlehandedly (or I guess doublehandedly in this case) sunk both myself and Briana. I came in $3.04 lower than her, nailed the Pop-Tarts right on, but those two items ended up being killers. And Lucky $even... when you get multiple nice middle digits in a row, you have to be expecting something to be up at the end. Elizabeth didn't catch on to that, and went bankrupt as a result.

Really, outside of Push and maybe Punch, this was hard to watch. We ended up with the usual 1/6 in a lineup where 2 wins seemed likely and 3-4 at least possible.

Another not-special special. No special games (i.e. Triple Play, Golden Road or 3 Strikes) were played and a couple of tricky set-ups on what was played make for a rather disappointing hour.

In regards to Lucky $even's outcome, that was just mean. It was set-up so well then the dreaded 9 of doom rears its ugly head at the end. She played it really well, too.

In Cover Up, he made some really weird final choices in the end. Too bad, too, because the 1 and the 4 were just screaming to be picked, but, he went with a 0 and a 3? Whaa?

Double overbids are always disappointing, but, especially so when they're as close as today. If only they had each bid $23,000.

And, just for emphasis, if you're going to do a special show, make it special. Bonus gift cards for everyone on-stage do not equal "special."

Also, does the placement of the airdate of this episode seem out of place to anyone? We know there's a couple more shows from season 41 to air later this month, why wouldn't they save the "Back to School" show for the end of August, not bury it in the middle of the month when summer vacation is still going on?

Thanks. I did double-check the DVR to make sure I wasn't imagining things, and I also partly went off of his shout outs during the second Showcase Showdown, where he gave a shout out to WSU and the head football coach.

What's wrong with making the same bid on the showcase?  With the Halloween Showcase from 2009, their bids were very cheap, but that wasn't the case this time.

Did anyone else notice some terrific camera work on today's show?

The crowd-surf reminded me of a logical extension to the "climbs" that people in the first couple of rows used to do every so often.

When it comes to the students making weird choices or just bad luck, I think it's a little of column A and a little of column B.

And also it's not just college specials that where we see less wins and one too many bad setups, whether it be Spring Break or Back To School........A good number of "specials" this season (Nurses, Military and that include 4th of July, Law Enforcement, Kids, etc.) tend to be poorly executed and with the addition of this one, they should've gone a lot better.

The Firefighters special, however, was decent enough, though.

Is it just me or is it that Mike was setting up traps for the contestants in the pricing games today for Back To School Price?

Punch a Bunch: Wow.  I thought Tianna made a wise move.  Two of those four SPs were downright hard--that second one was a killer.

Bargain Game: I apparently said Colorado along with Tyler.  Mike, that was a mean setup.

Lucky Seven: Yeah the fives crowd would win barely, but looking at the price itself, I thought that price was NASTY.

Check Out: This was a very unfriendly setup---the mousse and them Pop Tarts IMO really tripped me up.

Cover Up: Nothing more to say about that one.  I say forced loss right there.

Push Over: I thought this was a tossup.  At least we got a win on a tricky tossup.

Showcases: I didn't expect both Tyler and Jamal to be over by a few hundred bucks.  Wow.

Something about Back to School just doesn't go well. It's the below average contestants and end-of-season budget mode I think - C-O was hard because of it, and then L7 was pretty nice from Mike but it still wasn't THAT easy and we didn't quite get it. SCs weren't too devious but again, cheap.

Oh well.
