Johnny Gilbert: Backstage are some of the most exciting prizes on television. On our panel tonight is the talented and versatile actor, Roddy McDowall! Stand by for The Price Is Right! Bill comes out applause from the Ritz Theater audience, and then chats with Roddy McDowall, who is appearing (or was, at the time) in a stage play of Cleopatra in New York, and is touting his new film The Greatest Story Ever Told, which was released that November. Bill then greets the three civilian contestants:
* Mary Haas is a housewife from Ft. Tucker, KY. She is the returning champion, with a total of $14,814 in prizes.
* Samuel Bang is an accountant from Cleveland OH.
* Joan Bodner is a housewife from Elizabeth, N J.
The models bring in the hopper of cards filled out by the studio audience and Roddy draws four of them, laying them face down as he draws them. Those are the people he will be playing for. The first card: Mary Coburn of Newark, NJ. Before the game starts, Bill shows a box game of The Price Is Right (under its supplementary name "Bid It Right").
First item up for bids: A travel wagon. It's a Ford Econoline van with travel wagon conversion, it sleeps six, has an elevating roof and a table that converts to a double bed. The van is licensed as a station wagon and has a 170-cu. in. engine. Bidding on the the Econoline at its F.O.B. delivered price, point of entry Elkhart, Indiana.
Mrs. Haas starts with the opening bid asked to be at least $1000, minimums are $100:

Next item up for bids: A custom bar from Dantomuro with a concealed 23-in black-and-white TV in the center and a four-speed record player and amplifier on the right and record storage on the left. The other side of the bar has storage cabinets for glasses and bar equipment.
Mr. Bang starts with the opening asked to be at least $500, minimums at $50:

Everyone has overbid, so Bill instructs the bids to be erased and each player gets one guess. Mr. Bang starts, with all bids required to be under $1450 (the lowest original frozen bid):

The winner of the luxury sweepstakes is announced, with Toni and June drawing one postcard from each of five rotating drums. They post each postcard onto a board and then the board is taken to Bill's podium. The prizes are a Chaparelli mink coat, a Lanolin Plus settee and Flintcoat floor tiles, and the price: $7,216.45 The drawn cards and bids:

Final name Roddy plays for: Dinah Krieger. Final item up for bids: a diamond ring solitaire from Johnston Jewelers, Waldorf Astoria. Total weight: 5.48 karats.

GSN had only shown six ABC nighttime shows, but more presumably exist. A Price website has a screenshot of an ABC show with Jayne Meadows on the panel, but it wasn't shown on GSN because the panel front bore the sponsor's product, Lark cigarettes.

It's remarkable how today absolutely no one who is someone will go on a game show yet only 40-30 years ago, they would practically have to take a number.
