Title: PatrickRox80's The Price is Right: Seasons (1973 - END)
Post by: PatrickRox80 on September 19, 2019, 12:59:53 PM
It's back!

1973 will be another half hour show. Thank you to all who participated last time, I'm looking forward to doing this again!

I have modified my ground rules due to a couple of incidents on last show. Here they are:

Here is the interview qualifier this time around:

Your first year as a page on The Price is Right is going great. So great, in fact, that you've attracted Mark Goodson and Bill Todman. They want to promote you to a writer! They've thrown a curveball at you to get your feet wet. Match Game '73 has been picking up steam in the ratings so they want to do a little cross-promotion. Your task? Come up with some fill-in-the-blank Match Game questions themed around The Price is Right. Of course, they have to be suitable for a daytime audience.

This episode will start no-later than Sunday, September 22 at 7:00 PM EDT. Sign-ups will end 72 hours after this post unless I don't have at least seven people in the audience pool.

Who's in?

1973, huh?

The CBS exec said, “Unlike some shows, the Price is Right would never rely on gimmicks like a big spinning wheel to draw eyeballs. During sweeps week, we’ll just have contestants bid on a lifetime supply of _____.”

Good thing Richard Dawson is on Match Game, cause he could NEVER make it on a different game show. He and his friends once attended a Price is Right taping, and they gave awful advice. The contestant playing Lucky Seven said, “I shouldn’t have listened to Hogan’s ______.”

“Dumb Dora was soooo dumb...” (How dumb was she?) “...when she was playing Double Digits and the host if she understood the game, she drew a _____.”

I'll bite.

"Say, did you hear that The Price is Right thinks cars are getting too expensive? Lemme tell ya. From now on, instead of cars, every episode will offer at least one ________."

"Dumb Dora is sooooooo dumb, ("HOW DUMB WAS SHE???"), when Bob Barker asked her to bid on her Showcase, she didn't bid in dollars, she bid in __________!"

I'm in!

"Dumb Dora is soooo dumb, when she was on The Price is Right and played the game Any Number, she gave Bob her ______!"

"That game Bullseye on The Price is Right was so hard, whenever a contestant played it the audience ______ed for them!"

"It must be difficult for Johnny Olsen to announce both Match Game and The Price is Right. At yesterday's Price is Right taping, rather than Come on Down! he accidently told contestants to _______!"

Me: Welcome to The Price is Right! That's right, with one episode already under our belt, we can no longer call ourselves new. We have another episode lined up with lots of prizes to give away, and we're going to have a lot of fun doing it. This will start with the first item up for bids. Tell us about it, George!

George: It's some fun baseball equipment!

Get into the national past time with this Heater Deuce 95 pitching machine which can launch baseballs at speeds of up to 95 miles an hour with strike zone accuracy. Plus...

Hit one out of the park with this Louisville Slugger Prime 919 bat, weighting in at 30 ounces and measuring at the official Major League length of 33 inches. Also, improve your defense with this Rawlings baseball glove and twelve officially sized Rawlings baseballs.

And we will present all that equipment to the one of you four who bids nearest to the actual retail price without going over.

The first bid of 1973 belongs to gamesurf. What do you bid?

Me: And spinning around we have the lovely Anitra standing by our cash register. That can only mean one thing: you're going to play the Grocery Game for that living room set. If you're a smart shopper, we might treat you to that collection. Take a look at the five grocery items on this table and listen carefully as George describes each.

George: Gladly, Kevin...

And finally, a 52-ounce apple pie from Mrs. Smith's. Mrs. Smith's original flaky crust apple pie is baked with real butter for that fresh from the oven taste. We also use the finest seasonal apples, sweet brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon for that homemade flavor.

Me: Now, the way this works, PlinkoMan, is you're going to run a total using those five items. Tell me how much of one product you'd like and Anitra will add it up on that register. If you come between $20 and $22 at any time, you win the game. Simple as that. Which would you like to start with and how many?

*bell sequence, 1972 Walking*

gamesurf, you have won! Why don't you come up on stage? You're going to play our second pricing game of the show. I've got a few prizes to show you, starting with one I know you're going to enjoy. Tell him, George!

George: A new car!

A brand new 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LS! Dependability matters with this crossover SUV designed for performance while setting trends in style. It comes with standard features including a 1.5-Liter Turbo 4-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel drive, engine block heater and 17-inch aluminum wheels, the Chevy Equinox!

And we get to see a game that hasn't seen the light in 46 years...

Yep! Good ol' Double Digits! What you need to do is figure out the price of the car digit by digit. We've narrowed all of them down to two except for the first which we'll show you.

The first number is two. Light that up, please.

*ding*

Thank you. Every other digit you're going to guess with the help of four prizes which our ladies will show you. They're all two digits in price, and the actual retail price of the tens digit corresponds to that number in the car's price. We'll start with the thousands digit. Here is a prize that will help you.

George: From TaoTronics, this metallic LED desk lamp has five color modes, six levels of brightness and a timer so you can work with any kind of light you need.

Me: Let me show you the last number in the price of that lamp.

It's zero. The first number is either...

Six...

Or seven, making it $60 or $70. That also determines whether you think that Chevy Equinox is either $26,000 or $27,000. Consider that wisely, gamesurf, and tell me which digit is the best fit for the lamp and the car.

“Dumb Dora was soooo dumb...when she was playing Double Digits and the host if she understood the game, she drew a _____.”

This was not an instruction manual! Next time I’m answering a prompt it’ll be about “free money instant win game”!

I have no idea whether an Equinox costs $26K or $27K...but $70 looks too much for the lamp. It’s tricky, but I’ll say 6.

I set this script up about three months in advance. The challenge question came much later, so what a koinkydink.  :P

Gonna say that lamp is $60...

That's one. We get to move onto the next digit so here's George.

George: From Best Choice Products, this dual-wheel yard wheelbarrow is designed to tackle the toughest home projects. It has room for five cubic feet of materials and its rubber-coated steel body is rust-resistant.

Me: The last number in its price is...

Nine. Your two choices for the first digit along with the middle number of that car:

Eight...

And nine. Do you believe that wheelbarrow is $89 or $99, gamesurf?

George: This backpack. From JanSport, this SuperBreak backpack which has been our top seller for 35 years. It has extra padding with one large compartment and a smaller utility compartment.

Me: That backpack's price ends in...

Five. Tell me, gamesurf.

Is three...

Or four the first number in its price? Remember, you're also matching the fourth digit of the car.

George: For your Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Maker 2. Create your own Mario levels and match wits against your friends to see who can make the toughest levels or conquer them.

That video game also has two digits in its price, the second of which is...

Eight. The first, which also completes the car's price, is either...

*Peanut gallery*

It launched at $60. I have no clue how the price got reduced, but I would expect it at most to be only a $10 reduction. Go $58.

Post by: gamesurf on September 28, 2019, 12:46:20 AM
Yeah, that’s an easy one (great game, too, btw—bought it a few weeks ago)!

I think Wal-Mart offers Switch games at a discount at $50 at launch—but we’re not talking Walmart price, we’re talking MSRP, and that’s $60 everywhere else. $58’s close enough to my liking.

That’s the only one I’m confident in, though. If this were Temptation I’d be bailing like a hay farmer.

So, you're going with five.

That gives you a price of $26,945. If you've matched every one of those digits, you've won the car. Any prize you get right is yours, regardless of the outcome. I'm going to give you the option to change any numbers. Do you want to do that?

I don’t know Equinoxes, but... to use the Litebulb strategy, it’s low-high-low-high, nothing is all low or all high, no consecutive digits. I’d be a lot more comfortable if I wasn’t picking between digits that were one away from each other, but I’ll stick with it.

Okay. If that Equinox is $26,945, you are a winner. The price is...

*buzzer, losing horns*

$27,845, and two out of four won't do it. You matched the backpack and the video game, so you win those at least. I'm sorry, gamesurf.

We're gonna try again in just a little bit!

Who is our next player, George?

George: The next name on my list is GameShowFan9001! Come on down! You are the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Me: Here GameShowFan9001 comes, all the way down to Contestant's Row. Janice has the next item up for bids so pay attention...

George: A pair of earrings. From Stella Grace, this pair 10-karat rose gold earrings. Each comes encased in a round-cut morganite center stone and a diamond accent frame, making for an elegant addition to your everyday wear.

The actual retail price is $1,550!

*bell sequence, 1972 Walking*

tpir04, you are the winner! You get to play our last pricing game. Again, we go to the turntable. This is getting a lot of mileage today. Now, neither of the first to contestants won their games. I want that to change by giving you these!

George: A canoe, a volleyball set and a dune buggy!

First, take the high seas or just go around the river bend with this Mad River Journey 156 Canoe. It seats two people so you and a friend can explore the rugged outdoors with its three-layer construction perfect for any body of water.

Second, from Pacific Sun, everything you need to play volleyball in your own backyard. It includes four poles with matching stakes, a full-length net, roping and two volleyballs. It's easy to set up and it all stores away in one convenient bag, sand not included.

Finally, a dune buggy! Enjoy thrills, chills and spills with the BMS Ranch Pony 500 EFI dune buggy. It features a 34-horsepower engine, 45 ft-lb of torque and it's equipped with a fully automatic CVT transmission with high and low gear. The engine offers unmatched performance whether you use it for work or pleasure. A great prize worth $8,599!

Me: And here comes the game you'll be playing...

It's the Clock Game. George talked about three prizes but I want you to focus on the first two. In a moment, that clock is going to tick one second for each bid you give me. We're going to start on that canoe. If you're wrong, I'll help you out by telling you whether the actual retail price is higher or lower than the bid you just gave me. Then, with the bids you have remaining, you're going to guess the price of the volleyball equipment. If you nail both prizes in thirty bids or less, you win all three prizes!

One last thing. Audience, this is one game where you are not allowed to help. Any contestant other than tpir04 who posts from now until this pricing game is over will be ineligible to play on my next show.

tpir04, you are bidding on the canoe and only the canoe. Whenever, you're ready, please give me your opening bid.

The only reason to play Clock Game on HYOs with 30 guesses should be for two luxury cars, or items as precise to the cent, since that would be really fun to binary search.

I'm not joking. 15 guesses on each item allows for a range of 16,384 prices encompassed. So, if the prize is less than $16,384, no one should ever be losing.

I'm inclined to agree. I knew from the get-go that this would be a slam dunk, no matter who was playing, whether it be me or anyone else.

I'd either decrease the number of bids or throw in a third price.

This is why I said Clock Game with 30 guesses, since I didn't want someone winning the top prize guarenteed. Either of your fixes work. I also was thinking about going the Big Money Week route and offering $500 or $1,000 for every guess remaining.

(Suggestions noted. With two tricky games preceding Clock Game, I had to have seen the above result coming even if it took that many guesses.)

The top winner of 1973, thanks to a great run on Clock Game is tpir04!

And today's runner-up is gamesurf.

Let's not waste any time. George, our two players are ready for the first showcase!

George: This showcase contains prizes revealed as we take a look at some world records.

First, we remember Sir Edmund Hillary who in 1953 became the first person to scale Mount Everest. To celebrate, why not conquer a smaller mountain, this inflatable climbing wall!

From Aurora Sports, this inflatable climbing wall can prepare you for a rocky mountain climbing expedition. It measures 28 feet in height with fourfold stitching and it collapses for easy storage along with its portable air pump.

The best-selling song in history is "White Christmas" recorded in 1942 by Bing Crosby. It was pressed so often the original master became unusable, though you may find a reproduction in this jukebox!

Add a touch of the early rock and roll era with this fully-restored original 1952 Model #M100C Seeberg Jukebox. It can play fifty 45 RPM records through its 15-inch speaker, and it includes options for B-sides for a total of 100 songs. It also operates on coin or free play with a wallbox linked right to the jukebox.

Finally, Alaska is the only U.S. state to experience 24-hour daylight, with the furthest north seeing the sun for two and a half months. So, how would you like to experience the land of the midnight sun in your Alaskan expedition?

You and a guest will fly round trip coach from Los Angeles to three Alaskan cities. First, you will experience the beauty of a city surrounded by mountains and trees, Juneau! You'll spend six nights at the Aspen Suites Hotel, overlooking Fritz Cove to your south and the Alaska range behind you.

(https://qtxasset.com/styles/breakpoint_sm_default_480px_w/s3/Travel%20Agent%20Central-1504202464/JuneauAlaskadbviragoiStockGettyImagesPlusGettyImages.jpg?5LOI4dvMzgFLbbcs4Vr3vAz61qgMviQU&itok=8GgP5sdk)

Next, you'll be on your way to Barrow Point, the northernmost point in the United States. Once you arrive you may never want to sleep with so much to see. You'll spend three nights at the Top of the World hotel with the finest accommodations the great north has to offer.

Then, it's back to civilization when you visit Anchorage. Enjoy even more spacious views of mountains, glaciers and waterfalls while taking in the Native American diversity of this bustling city. You'll spend six nights at the Hyatt House, boasting every modern accommodation you can think of.

(https://assets.simpleviewinc.com/simpleview/image/upload/c_fill,h_374,q_50,w_640/v1/clients/anchorage/anc-skyline-donna-dewhurst_resized_eca7ea3e-9d01-47b1-801e-8224b8d7bd1f.jpg)

Airfare throughout all three cities provided by Alaska Airlines.

And this showcase where you yourself might break a record should you win can be yours if The Price is Right!

tpir04, as the top winner, the decision is yours. Are you going to bid on this showcase or pass it to gamesurf?

Let’s go $26,250.

tpir04, here is your showcase!

George: Your showcase contains prizes revealed as we take a look at a house from the future... as we would from 1973.

First, Janice wants to listen to all her favorite modern hits. She finally can with this new stereo system!

From Denon, the D-M41 micro desktop stereo system fits great for any compact room in the house. Play CDs, listen to the AM/FM radio or stream music with its Bluetooth technology. It also includes a subwoofer for low-frequency sound effects.

Next, what good is a house from the future if you don't want to preserve some memories? That's what Antria wants to know, so she's picking up this camcorder!

From Sony, the FDR-AX100 Digital 4K Ultra HD Camcorder shoots videos at 30 frames per second and also comes four high-tech recording options. It also features 12x optical zoom and 24x clear image zoom, and it can take 20MP images for a professional home video feel.

Finally, Anitra and Janice want to preserve the future so they can preserve their house. Both have already thought ahead with this new hybrid car!

A brand new 2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid Titanium! With its 43 MPG highway/41 MPG city, it fits your lifestyle while helping you commit your duty for a cleaner environment. It comes with standard features including a 2.0-Liter engine, six-speed automatic transmission, an AM/FM HD radio and 19” machined-face aluminum wheels.

And this showcase as we show you the future from 46 years ago can be yours if The Price is Right!

Me: Look those prizes over, tpir04, and please give me your bid on the showcase.

Great show, Patrick! Yeah, that first showcase was a bit tough, which is why I passed. I'm suprised that the Fusion was 34K, though. I couldn't decide whether it was one of those uber expensive ones, or a dirt cheap model, so I went low.

"Stay tuned for Match Game '73 next over most of these CBS stations."

Great show! I enjoyed your theming and hosting style. Clock Game and Double Digits were bold choices for HYOs, definitely a nice change of pace.

Loved the retro graphics.
