Title: PatrickRox80's The Price is Right: Seasons (1976)
Post by: PatrickRox80 on May 21, 2020, 10:41:04 PM
The Spirit of '76 is upon us all! I'll link the ground rules from my 1975 episode here:

http://www.golden-road.net/index.php/topic,30967.0.html

Here's the interview question for this episode:

How's this for an off-the wall celebrity special? The Price is Right: Game Show Host Edition! Aside from Bob Barker and Drew Carey, which game show host, past or present, do you believe has the most knowledge of prices? Who has the ability to win it all?

To accommodate for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, sign-ups will end on Wednesday, May 27 at 8:00 PM EDT. Good luck!

Gotta be Bill Cullen. He hosted the show for nine years!  :P

If I had to say one it would be Marc Summers. I grew up watching him on Nickelodeon.

My mind is telling me Tom Kennedy. And I just thought of something. He hosted the Nighttime version of TPIR! Lol!

Sure, I'll jump in.

Time for a cop-out answer: Mike Richards, the host of GSN's Pyramid and Divided. He only left the show a year ago, so I'd assume he still has some rudimentary knowledge of the prices and have the best chance of winning. He undoubtedly would have access to how they price the trips, which is perhaps the hardest part to price, and prizes like the E16 and Vespas don't fluctuate that much between seasons.

Now, if he can't because of legal issues, David Ruprecht from Supermarket Sweep would probably do the best on the grocery products, although he wouldn't know much about pricing things over $25 besides cash.

Pat Finn from Shop til You Drop! His show dealt with prices of small prizes, to medium prizes, and trips. He'd do well on The Price Is Right- and he wouldn't even have to have Grandma Curmudgeon to help him out!

I'm in! I'll say Charlie Ross (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/Kf3vHMhbBpW66s2wKnWbs1/charlie-ross), one of the presenters of the UK game show Bargain Hunt. He's got great knowledge of antiques, which would be perfect for an episode from 1976!

It's gotta be one of the James brothers. Art James hosted "Say When!!", a variation on the format of Price, whose goal is to pick items up to a price limit. It can also be the nighttime Price host himself Dennis James! He hosted Price for 6 years, so he'll never go wrong with prices for hosting that long!

I'd love to join.

I'm going to go with Alex Trebek. The running joke for the longest time is that he is so smart, he knew all the Jeopardy answers without help. Surely, he has gathered some pricing wisdom over the years

I'm in!

Gotta go with Monty Hall (and Wayne Brady the current host), since Monty's Let's Make a Deal also had pricing games and the prizes are very similar to the ones on Price.

Nobody’s said Bill Cullen yet?

If it’s 1976, Bill Cullen.

If it’s 2020, Bill Cullen carefully thawed after 40 years trapped in carbonite.

And now, here is the star of The Price is Right, PatrickRox80!

*stands behind door number two as it opens, then walks out on stage, accepts mic from Janice and bows*

Me: Welcome to The Price is Right! I thank you all for that splendid welcome! I hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day Weekend. What a time to be honoring the bicentennial year. For the duration of this next hour, we have lots of games to play and lots of prizes to offer. It all starts with the first Item up for Bids which happens to be what, George?

George: A fun go-kart!

George: The TrailMaster 150S Challenger go-kart is fun to run on any trail with the reliance and durability you need to demand the control you desire. It's fully loaded with automatic CVT transmission, and it's equipped with electric start, a digital speedometer and polished aluminum wheels.

And we will present that go-kart to whoever bids nearest to its actual retail price without going over.

tpiradam is the winner!

*bell sequence*

tpiradam gets to come up to the turntable to play our first pricing game. Stand right over here to my right. I'm going to show you two prizes: one I think you'll enjoy and one I know you'll enjoy. What do we start with George?

George: A paint and brush set!

Serving world-class artists for 175 years, Charvin presents this extra fine oil color set featuring high-grade pigments hand-crafted to produce brilliant hues. It also comes with a dozen Old Holland professional brushes, each giving you the opportunity to paint a masterpiece like the professionals do.

OR... a new car!

A brand new Mazda CX-30! Take on the world with class in this sporty sedan. It comes with standard features, including a 2.5-Liter 16-valve 4-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission, air conditioning, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels with all-season tires

Me: And this is what we have spinning into view right now...

You're going to play Any Number for either of those prizes or enough money for a drink at Starbucks. We have five numbers in the price of the car, the first of which is...

*ding*

Two. We also have three numbers filling out the price of the paint and brushes along with three numbers in the piggy bank. Each digit 0-9 is on the board including a second two. All you have to do is give me numbers, hoping they're in price of the car. The prize you complete first is what you win. With that in mind, please give me a number, tpiradam.

George, I hope you can find us a winner!

George: I won't try, Kevin, I'll actually find one: TPIRfan#9821, come on down! You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Right down into the blue spot you go, TPIRfan#9821. We have four contestants again, as it should be. Let's show them the next Item up for Bids...

George: A floor lamp!

From the Kathy Ireland home collection, this Pacific Coast bronze arc orbit floor lamp features contemporary curvature with a half-moon motif. Its luminous glass shade is designed to give off a friendly glow from a 150-watt bulb, making it a great fit in your bedroom or living room.

I'll tell you all that the actual retail price is $832.

LiteBulb88, you win it!

*bell sequence*

Come on up here, we're going back to the turntable. Pleasure to meet you, LiteBulb88. I am prepared to give you all these!

George: A beer glass set, a safe and a bathtub!

From Pretentious, eight glasses designed to accommodate any kind of beer for the right taste no matter the preference. And for those who'd prefer a sample, two flights handcrafted from rustic darkwood and slates for chalk, each with four five-ounce glasses. Beer not included.

Next, this SentrySafe safe has an electronic lock and 4.3 cubic feet of storage so you never have to worry about losing your valuables. Its thicker door, concealed hinges and solid steel construction makes it 100% fireproof and 100% theft-proof.

Finally, get more enjoyment out of your next bath with this Pamela Acrylic freestanding air-massage bathtub. It measures 68-inches across and it can be easily programmed with its electronic control panel. It also comes with 16 low-profile air jets and a warm air massage so you can relax your troubles away and feel clean doing so.

Me: Three nice prizes you could win playing the Clock Game.

We got letters in the mail about the Clock Game the last time we played. Here's how we're going to play this time. With binary search, it becomes too easy to find the prices of two of the prizes with thirty guesses.

LiteBulb88, the core of this game is the same, but now you must guess the prices of all three of them. You'll start by making bids on the beer glass set, and I'll tell you higher or lower until you give me the exact price to the dollar. With the bids you have remaining, you'll guess the price of the safe. Once you do that, you've won the right to bid on the bathtub. The game ends when you exceed the 30-bid limit, but you'll still keep every prize you've won up to that point.

Audience, you are not allowed to help in any shape or form. From now until the completion of this game, any contestant other than LiteBulb88 who posts will be ejected (if playing) and issued a one-game suspension from my shows.

Let's play this game. LiteBulb88, you're playing for the beer glasses. Concentrate on your thoughts and give me your first bid on the beer glasses.

George: tpir04, come on down! You are the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Right over there if you please, tpir04. Look at our third Item up for Bids!

George: A patio fire pit set!

Noble House invites you to stay warm by the fire on a summer's night with this outdoor five-seater sectional and fire pit. The sofa features lightweight yet strong aluminum frames and water-resistant fabric cushions while the gas fire table provides an attention-drawing, yet calming centerpiece.

JhayPrice wins it! Come on up here. I'm going to place you right in front of Contestant's Row. Look at that door and see what we have to offer you!

George: A trailer!

Built to be tough, the XTR off-road teardrop trailer will make any camping or excursion a memorable one. It comes with vintage chrome door handles and a dual interior locking mechanism so you can feel safe and secure in the great outdoors. It also features durable Firestone tires and it hitches easily to your vehicle. A great prize worth $9,250!

Me: And you will win that if you can guide our little mountain climber to safety.

Yes, you get to play Cliff Hangers. That also means you're playing for these three prizes as well. George?

First, the Oral B Vitality electric toothbrush with floss action which will give you a cleaner smile than a normal toothbrush. It has micro-bristles for plaque removal and a two-minute sensor.

From Gorilla Ladders, this three-step aluminum ladder is lightweight and folds conveniently for easy storage. It also has a built-in utility tray to make your home projects easier.

Finally, celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles' Abbey Road album with this deluxe 3-LP collection. All forty tracks each with a new stereo mix, all in a replicated sleeve and presented in a lift-top box.

Me: In a moment, JhayPrice, I'm going to ask you to price all three of those items for me. If you're wrong, our mountain climber will move one step for every dollar you are off. There are 25 steps on the mountain and you have $25 to play with. If you can keep him from falling off the mountain, you win the game. Right now, I want you focus on the toothbrush.

I have with me the three contestants from the first half of our show ready to spin this big wheel. The one of you who is nearest to $1 without going over will take part in the Showcases at the end of our show.

You'll want to hit that dollar because that's worth an extra $1,000 in cash to you along with a Bonus Spin. If on your Bonus Spin you get either of these green sections, you win another $10,000. Get that dollar again, and it's good for $25,000!

Sounds good, doesn't it? LiteBulb88, you get to spin first.

Spinning Order:
1. LiteBulb88: $1,857
2. tpiradam: $3,205.54
3. JhayPrice: $11,517

(Please give me two numbers between 1-20, your minimum staying score and another number 1-20 in that order.)

*JhayPrice spins again*

The only space that doesn't put you over will win it for you. What do we have? You're gonna be over, JhayPrice.

Too bad. Enjoy your prizes.

*sets wheel to 5˘*

LiteBulb88, come back over here. You have the right to spin for extra money. Whenever you're ready, give that wheel a good spin!

All right! Round and round it goes. Those three magical spaces are coming, but it looks like you'll land as far off as you possibly can get.

George: It's gamesurf! Come on down! You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Me: Right down in that orange spot if you please, gamesurf. All four of you, take a look at this next Item up for Bids.

George: A storage shed!

From Lifetime, this backyard shed measures eight feet in length and ten feet across. It's reinforced with steel trusses to enhance its sturdiness, protecting it from snow, rain and UV damage. It also comes with four rows of interior storage shelves, plus two sets of double doors mark dual entry.
