Show Bob's final TPIR live in prime time!
« on: February 17, 2007, 02:29:26 AM »
Do any of you TPIR fans it's only appropriate that Bob's final TPIR be shown in prime time? Better yet, show it live! IMO, it would be anti-climatic to have an important show like that sit "in the can" for 2 months. Petition CBS to do that!

The time Price spends 'in the can' gradually decreases during the season as they take weeks off of taping, so by the June, the lag time is closer to a week than two months.

Also...just keep in mind how many rowdy college students show up to Price each day.  Would you really want to risk having that many random, uncontrollable, emotional, incredibly excited people on live TV?  Not that I'm saying anything would happen, but...it would only take one bad apple...and the whole thing is ruined.

EDIT:  I agree with PFA regarding a live show.  There would be way too many things to worry about, including timing on a show which will no doubt be wuite emotional.  Having said that, I think the prime time May special (is this carved in stone?) will suffice, then have the last show be as normal as possible.

But, along the same lines, I have a question for those who have attended multiple shows.  Having been to one taping, it is neat to watch the pace as they record in "real time", but how often have people been at a taping where it was necessary to stop tape?  If there have been stoppages, what were the reasong?  Maybe this is one for Scott.

I understand that CBS is, I think, is doing a Price Is Right special on May or something before Bob says goodbye on June 15th.

I don't know if that's correct or not.

I saw one stoppage at my two tapings.  The ninth called contestant had to leave before the taping, although I never heard why (possibly a family emergency).  So they had to stop tape when no one came down and get out the backup name.  Only took a couple minutes.

At the one taping I attended, they stopped tape twice.  They were having problems with the switcher in the control room during Pass the Buck, and then later something went wrong with BBB.

I do not think that the show can physically be done live in an hour.  Even as well-oiled a machine as the production is, it still takes a little time to get things set up from one act to the next.

And I disagree that we should petition CBS to have Barker's final appearance as host of the show occur in prime time.  I feel about Barker and 'Price' the same way I felt about Johnny Carson and the "Tonight Show:"  his final edition should be in his regular time slot on his regular stage done his way, no one else's.

Why would you air an episode of the daytime show in primetime?

A primetime TPIR finale would have boffo ratings. Bob's final show being shown on a Friday morning wouldn't do him justice. It could be done live! Make it a 90-minute show to allow for game sets to be moved and there'd be some time for Bob to do a final speech after the showacse.

You are correct,sir!

The best way to tribute Bob at the end is to do a normal show.  I'm not quire sure how they will time it, as there is sure to be some extra stuff.  I remember watching Johnny's last show when I was in college, and his final speech, sitting on the stool, was perfection and made me cry (OK, I'm a big wuss).

Save the big prime-time special for all the nation, but keep a nice, well-run final show for the loyal friends and true.

The K.I.S.S. Rule is now in effect.

The end of the final show should be about only one person: a certain Mr. Robert William Barker.

Using the Carson model as our guide, here's what I'd like to see in the farewell show: Total, Absolute, and Complete Normalcy. This show runs the same as any of the over 6700 shows he will have taped by then except:

1. Barker resolves the Showcase Round before the final break. (I really don't want a mob of the winner's buds mingling on stage for this occasion)

and, B. They dispense with all the end-of-show supplier acknowledgments coming out of same (CBS should also skip the usual end credits), then cut to Barker alone on the stage of Studio 33. Let him speak his peace, remind us one last time about the pet population, take his final bow, and have him walk through Doors #2 (not the audience) to a standing ovation, and his retirement.

That would be the best and most dignified way to end things. Worked for Carson, will work for Barker.

Oh, one more thing. No sappy videotape montage after he leaves. A wide shot of the studio, the applause of the gallery (without theme?) and a fade to black will suffice.

Worst case scenario-rerun the final TPIR that same night. There's actually things called work and school that would cause most fans to miss the 10 AM broadcast. Yeah there's VCR's and TIVO but some people will still forget!

I doubt that a lot of people would forget to record the show if they really wanted to see it but couldn't because of work or school or another reason.  And besides, most people are out of school already by the middle of June and not everyone works in the morning.  It would be nice if it's rerun at night or another time but it's not totally necessary (I guess I could see it happening).  And no, it definitely should not be live.

I really like Joe's idea for the final show.

Ye now be preaching to the choir.

OK, while there's nothing wrong with wishful thinking, let's be rational here.

1. The Farewell Show Will Not Air LIVE in Primetime or Anytime on June 15 - and even if it did if you live in the west like moi, you'd be hosed.
2. It will air in the usual hour (10 AM for most, 11 AM in the East),
3. It will be Taped June 6, roughly 2:45 PM,
4. This website will be crawling with people anxious to see it (if it isn't already!)
5. You will have more than enough time to prepare thyself, and
6. Whether CBS or Fremantle like it or not, at least parts of it will make the rounds of YouTube.

and, 7. This is not the end of the world, only the end of an era.
