New version of Lingo coming to CBS

Looking forward to it.  It'll be interesting to see how it'll do on CBS.  I imagine they'll do what it takes to accommodate 60 minutes of time (or they'll just have two half hour games).  Plus the cash amounts if anything is still up in the air.  Nonetheless, Lingo is such a great gameshow, and it's a tad bit sad that it didn't stay on the air all of these past 20 years (or 35 years LOL)

I am looking forward to this revival. Ru Paul is A interesting choice i enjoyed his talk show test run and when hosted Snatch Game on his show.


I liked the Chuck Woorley version i hated when they add a co host that added nothing to do the show.

In the 1980s version of Lingo, they had a jackpot ball.   I wonder if they are going to bring that back in this upcoming revival?

I bet when it premieres, half of social media will be like, "This game show is a ripoff of Wordle." 

The guy who created Wordle won't even admit he copied Lingo, and he's a millionaire now. How did he get away with it? I mean it's exactly the same except there's no first free letter or "Lingo card".

This is nothing against you, but by that logic, TPIR, Wheel and Jeopardy all should've gone out of production in the 1990s. Typical short-sighted Sony.

I'm a little torn on this one. Having watched that UK episode, I think I prefer the format from Chuck's version a little more but it's a decent game on its own. Oddly, it completely removes the entire "Bingo" element from previous incarnations that made the name "Lingo" so clever. That said, if this is what we're to expect from Ru Paul's version, I can see it doing fairly well even if it is a bit of a departure. I just pray that it's better than the Bill Engvall version. The corny categories and clues didn't do it for me.

Oh dear God. If they were going to base the new Lingo on a foreign version, I would much prefer they base it on the Dutch version, where you draw balls to fill in letters on a 9 letter bonus word after winning the spelling game and the Woolery Bonus Lingo in the finale. The UK version is just weak. Not only is the ball hopper idea removed completely, but the money won in the front game isn't guaranteed to the winners unless you win two words out of 3 in the bonus round (btw: 3 words in 90 seconds for the bonus? In the GSN version teams often got 6 or 7 in two minutes), so you could have an episode where no cash is given away at all if the winning team falls apart in the bonus game.

The only major thing that I found wrong with the Engvall version was the unnecessary clues to each word. They were clearly trying to take a page out of Harvey’s Family Feud and make every other clue a sexual innuendo, and it got very annoying rather quickly. Getting rid of the clues would force the game to pick up the pace. Clean up some presentation issues, and the show would’ve been a faithful reboot to Woolery’s Lingo. I’m hoping the CBS version doesn’t make the same mistakes.

I’m with you on the UK version though. I don’t find it very entertaining and I could see the US version being one and done if they follow the UK. Then again, I’m not a producer, so what do I know?
