Travis,

No offense intended to you as we know that you are merely the genius behind the most fantastic game show board game ever...but they can put out ed's of Password and Family Feud for eons, but Price just seems to come out once in a blooming lifetime....I see something wrong with that as I would bet that TPIR games sell better than Feud or Password put together.

I know Endless is a small company, but let us have our SDE TPIR game...please Endless. Its a sure winner.

Thanks, daeknaj for your kind words.

For all, I know the reasoning behind the scaling back.  They want to make all of their games into "Grab 'N' Go Games", which I can only assume is a travel edition.  Hence the massive scale back.

"Price is Right" as a travel edition?  Hmm.  Dunno about that.

Its a shame they want to do that...first they OD on the DVD games and now they want to make travel everything...Endless oh Endless where didst thou go? You did Card Sharks for the first time ever...brought TPIR out of mothballs and after that...not a whole lot. I was so looking forward to you having us 'Match the Stars' or have another great game show that has never seen the light of day in a home version come out....hopefully those days arent at an end, but there is a part of me that is scared of whats to come...any insights Travis that they havent forsaken what made them great in the eyes of game show board game junkies like myself?

An electronic handheld is the only way Price could ever work as a travel game.

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but are you contractually obliged to produce a game for Endless, Travis?

Sorry for the long time taken to reply.  I am not contractually obligated to produce the game, no.

Speaking of which, I just spoke with Endless today, and here's what they want to do with it now.  The last message I got from them set the parameters for the game at 200 cards and some wipe off boards.  No problem.  188 prize cards (double-sided for 376 one-bids, large prizes, packages, and cars), 30 special cards (digits, X's, daisies, "WIN"), some dry erase bidding boards, and a dry erase scoreboard.

Not good enough.

They want to scale it back EVEN FURTHER to the point of putting in a 100 to 200-sheet pad of paper, pre-printed with a pre-set one-bid prize and price or pricing game (depending on how far you are in the pad).  The point would be for the MC to use the pad to conduct the game, then tear off the sheet and hand it to the winning player.  If necessary, if only to cut costs, they may have to remove a portion of the show from the game to fit costs.  That part of the show:  The Showcases.

To quote my phone call, it is to be a "disposable" game.  Play it thru 20 times, and that's it.

Thoughts, anyone?  Don't keep them to yourself!

YOU KNOW YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THIS!!  LET YOUR POST BE HEARD!!

Even if you are the designed and will do a great job, I certainly won't buy it. I hate games that have parts that can't be re-used. When I'm playin the DoND board game, I use a pencil and erase at the end of each game, but with TPiR, you can't really do that b/c you'd still know all the prices. Secondly, doing away with the showcases won't help them sell it. It's really stupid for them to go from a fabulous 2nd edition to a cheap, 1-time use 3rd edition. They need to think about who'll be buying this game.

Travis, you know I'm always playing Devil's Advocate on any issue on this board, and I even supported some of the cutbacks they wanted to make.

But this...I got nothing. Who on earth would buy something like this? I can't think of one demographic that would!

Show them the Australian version posted earlier.  I really did not like the 2nd Edition for the simple fact that it didn't look like I was playing the pricing games.  I could have easily made that game myself with a bunch of index cards.  I like the 1st Edition because of the backdrops, but the 4-digit cars were ridiculous.  I am not even looking forward to the release of this next game, sounds worse than the second.  I know this isn't in your control; it's just a bummer that they aren't considering a deluxe right now.

And there's the rub.  I feel that the most important aspect of a game is replay value.  By making this a "disposable game," they're horribly limiting that.  At least the gigantic prize book gave you some leverage.  At this point, I'd say either abandon the project or, less likely, try to take this elsewhere.

What's it take to get into the plug 'n' play business, I wonder?

First off, Travis, I just have to say it: You're the man!

Now onto business...

This is really upsetting to read.

I just got the second edition for my board game group (I'm the resident game show home game geek amongst other geeks in my group), and I'm having a blast planning out games, including future games, and seeing what other games I can do. (In addition, I use index cards, so that afford a little more flexibility, and cuts down setup time, in addition to researching current prices, but thats for another time.)

When I hear about what they want to do for the third edition, I'm absolutely dismayed.  These guys released a fantastic home game for the second edition, and now, feel that paring back is the right thing to do.  They certainly don't do that for the Feud or Password, and they shouldn't do it to TPIR.  They have the chance to launch a great line of games, and in addition, appease fans like us, but it seems like the bottom line is...well...the bottom line, and that's a shame.

Try to inform them that they have to spend money to make money!  If they pare down the game and make it disposable, I assure you that that will not be the case.  Hurting the game will hurt their bottom line.  TPIR has a LOT of loyal fans, and with every release, they have the chance to profit on that loyalty.  What's to be said when that fan base is shortchanged?  The fan base in general takes it like a slap across the face.

If this next game is not in line with yours (as in designed to deliver 40 games minimum), as it sounds right now, Travis, my man, as a loyal friend and true, and on sheer principle, I'm not buying it, nor will others.

And you can quote me on that.

And I thought Endless had redeemed itself with TPIR v2.0 and Card Sharks.

My thoughts on this are plain and simple: the money will not be going from my hand to Endless's pocket.

I totally agree. I might have to just keep my 2nd edition game.

I want to thank you guys for posting on this.  It'll help me out when I talk to Endless on Wednesday.

If there's ANYONE who has not weighed in on this, and you own or have played the 2nd edition, LET YOUR THOUGHTS BE HEARD!

(Great, now I feel like a Sunday morning televangelist.)

I love the second edition game.

I do not like the pare downs for this edition of Price.  I think Endless should just leave well enough alone, and release a 3rd edition that's just like the 2nd.
