T.P.I.R. TAPING MISTAKE!
« on: July 23, 2008, 10:54:44 PM »
Hey everyone.  I just got back from my second Drew Carey taping of T.P.I.R. with my friends.  We tried to go to the taping on Monday but there were too many people in line.  We went to a taping yesterday and I couldn't beleive what happened.  They played the Plinko game and the girl dropped her first three discs into $10,000!!!  Everyone in the audience couldn't beleive it.  Then, a stagehand came out and stopped the show.  They told us that there was an error with the game and it was rigged to win, so they had to tape the whole thing over again.  They did say the girl would get to keep her $30,000 but it was not going to be shown on TV.  We were really happy about this since we had been talking to her during the line all morning.  She was very nice.  Drew then told us she was going to get to play Plinko all over again (sooo lucky!) and she would keep the money from both playings.  Does anyone know if this has ever happened before?  The big wheel was very different also.  I can't really explain it but it looked bad this time.  Did they buy a new wheel?  The walls are now like the night time show and I heard someone else in line say that they switched it because the show was going to be high definition now.  I didn't notice too many other changes but I am not as good as most people on this site!  Just thought you guys would find it interesting since I don't think they will show the Plinko mistake on TV.  I will try to remember to come back to tell more when the show airs.

How could it possibly be rigged to win?  Does this mean that Plinko is rigged for a certain outcome everytime its played?

"Plinko rigged?"  The only way I can think of it being rigged is there being a type of bar covering all the slots except the $10,000 slot.  That sounds awfully suspicious.

They told us it was for a TV show or commercial or something. I have to ask my friend again because he heard more than I did about it. People were talking about it outside in the parking lot a bunch.  It seemed very confusing. I didn't know if this was a spoiler or not so sorry if I made that mistake.

While I cannot confirm or deny this report, I can discuss something that I was told during one of my prior trips to the show.  There are occasions when the Plinko board is used for promotional purposes -- most often when an affiliate comes to the studio to tape a story or promo.  When this is done, the Plinko board would sometimes be "rigged" with a clear (fishing-line type) material to ensure that the chip lands in the big money spot for the purposes of an exciting promotion.  This is most certainly NOT the case during real game play -- however if Superfan's report is true, it would appear that somebody forgot to remove the wire prior to yesterday's gameplay.

One of our members, one that I know and trust, was in studio on Tuesday.  I'll shoot him an IM when I see him and see if he has anything to add.

Um...would somebody please remind me why getting rid of the guy who'd been running the program since 1984 was a good idea?

This is like the worst mistake a gameshow could do.  Trust can be lost.  Any hint of  gameshow rigging, even if it was innocently done for a commercial, can open a real can of worms for a program.  There are  people out there that will think if they can do it for a commerical that can do it anytime they want to. Bad, bad, bad.

If the Dob was there I'll bet that this would not have happen.  The new people in charge were a little lackadaisical in checking the show before taping!

This would be considered a "grey area" issue, since an outcome was not revealed.  Nobody's perfect, and I wouldn't put a blame on anyone for what happened.  It really was an honest mistake that was caught BEFORE the taping had been completed.  Now, just imagine the furor this mistake would've caused if the show had already FINISHED taping and was put "in the can."

In layman's terms, I don't think they'll be doing promos like this again....

From the sounds of it, nothing was caught "before" the taping and this resulted in a $30,000+ error.  Someone should be blamed for that, since it's going to cost CBS quite a chunk of change.

While I don't know the whole story, I can bet that executives at both CBS and Fremantle had to get involved, Standards and Practices most certainly would be involved, and someone is coughing up $30K.  A stop tape with additional studio time costs the show even more money.  This doesn't sound like a 'simple mistake' once you put a price tag on it.

I will also say that this topic would not violate our spoiler policy, since apparently we would have never known about this without someone in the audience posting it.  Hopefully we will find out more soon.

In the grand scheme of things there is no harm, no foul as far as the contestant and studio audience are concerned. No contestant was disadvantaged; on the contrary, the contestant was enriched by $30,000. They did absolutely the right thing in restarting the game and awarding the contestant the money even though it won't be seen on TV. And make no mistake, it could just as well have happened on Roger's watch, and you can be sure there was a meeting after the show involving the person responsible for making sure the monofilament is removed. The money will come out of the prize budget as if the contestant won the money on the air because it is the production company's responsibility to make sure the game was "unrigged". Problem is, they're over budget already.

Everybody take a tranc now.

And yet funnily enough, it never did.
