972 viewsThe credits that made 'Price' fans cringe back in 1988. For the first time, credits were run off of a character generator instead of the old-fashioned crawl board. This experiment was short-lived until electronically-generated credits became the norm in the late 1990's.

916 viewsBob was in the middle of explaining the rules to 'Barker's Bargain Bar' when he noticed that the neon sign was missing. He joked that he just couldn't go on and then sat down on the green border of the big door, breaking a bulb! He then joked that he felt like he was on 'Truth or Consequences!' It's assumed that the neon sign was being repaired, but its absence was never explained.

893 viewsThrough most of the show's run, credits and most other on-screen graphics were done the 'old-fashioned way.' Here is a shot of what the credits looked like for the majority of this time. This episode aired in 1985.

875 viewsIt's a special day when you know what ALL the games are going to be before one is even played. The show, #5875D, will feature Super Ball, Range Game, 3 Strikes Plus, Bump, One Away and Grand Game.

873 viewsBob makes his way to the producers' table in a 1983 episode. You can see the show's production number on the slate, and the first two game cards: Give or Keep and Race Game. Another clue: there's the Race Game price board tucked away behind the turntable area.

869 viewsHe's at it again! Bob shows no mercy on an uncooperative lock when the key jams in "Master Key." Careful, Bob: that's a $5,000 key!!

792 viewsBob was trying to explain the rules of "Temptation," but when the contestant started paying more attention to the audience, Bob walked over and started a conversation with one of the cameramen.
TPIR40.jpg
792 viewsWhen both Showcase contestants go over, Bob goes down into the audience during the credits. This shot is unusual by today's standards because we no longer see him actually descending the stairs. (This is because they have to take shorter shots to fit all of Barker's Beauties in before the reformatted credits begin.)

792 viewsPoor picture quality, but you get the idea: from the same episode in 1988, this is how the show logo and copyright notice appeared. For trivia buffs, 'Price' used roman numerals for copyright notices until they switched permanently to Chyron. The year 1988 (MCMLXXXVIII) is the longest roman numeral year they ever had to type out for the credit drum.
