I'm a bit perplexed as to the actual eligibility of Justine.

I've seen her blogs several times and noticed her backstage at The Price is Right before.  (There was a picture she posted that circulated around the internet last year of her posing with the new Big Wheel)

It's certainly interesting.

More interesting is that Drew is now bragging about her being on the show today on his Twitter.

I think Marc was being sarcastic about that, Unique.  After all, he willingly gave up his eligibility a long time ago just to meet Roger, and that essentially laid the groundwork for this site.  So I wouldn't be surprised if once you willingly give up your eligibility, you can never be a contestant.

I wonder if he'll still be this excited about it tomorrow morning!

By way of this logic, I'm eligible!  Booking my flight now!

Marc, why the sarcasm? Whether you realize it or not, it's condescending, at the very least.

You want a thorough analysis of the eligibility rules, fine.

Quote
*As of Nov. 12, 2007, anyone who has not been a contestant on the show in the last 10 years is eligible to be chosen.
*Never have been on any other game show, local, syndicated or network, within the past year.
*Never have been on more than two other game shows in the past 10 years.
Easy enough, that's pretty self-explanatory, although you could go off on a tangent and argue about what constitutes a "game show". What would a game show be? Would a reality show that provides no sort of prize, but maybe a stipend, be a game show? Hell, you could even argue about the definition of a year (extended warranty providers do it all of the time).

Quote
Also, you must:
*Not be affiliated with anybody employed by CBS Corporation, including any parent, subsidiary or entity affiliated with the CBS Corporation.

As there is nothing in the text which defines "affiliated", a court would look to the plain definition of affiliate; that definition is "to bring into close association or connection." But how close does one have to be in order to be considered "affiliated", hmm? Certainly, if your daddy works for CBS, there's a problem. But what about an aunt - are you still affiliated with that person? Distant cousin? My 87 year old Great Uncle Joe?

Now, how about friends - what if your friend works for CBS? What kind of contact would it take to become "affiliated" with that person? Obviously, with your close relationship with former producer Roger Dobkowitz, I would dare say that you are affiliated with him, along with John, perhaps. That would make you (and John) ineligible, no doubt, as long as he's employed by CBS, and as long as you (or him) continued to stay in touch with these mysterious, disgruntled people that work on the show.

But lets consider if you didn't run a website dedicated to a show and you were, oh let's say neighbors with Roger. Or maybe you went to school with him? And lets say you mentioned to him that you liked the show and would "love to see CBS sometime." Are you "affiliated" now? Of course not.

I'm giving Justine the benefit of the doubt here. She might have a casual friend that either works at CBS or works on the lot (and plenty of syndicated, and non-CBS shows tape there) that gave her a day pass. She might've been on the lot to do an interview. She's not affiliated with CBS, its parents or subsidiaries, etc. etc.

Oh hell.

You know that former Survivor contestants have appeared on Price too? I'd say that's more of a conflict than an internet celebrity most of the world isn't going to know about, but I digress -- as long as a contestant meets the eligibility requirements, they're permitted to be contestants.

To put it into perspective: Barack Hussein Obama could be a contestant on The Price is Right. He is not affiliated with anybody from CBS Corporation, or its affiliates, is over 18, and has never been on a game show. Just because somebody is 'famous' doesn't strip them of eligibility.

As long as he doesn't plan to seek re-election, perhaps!  Current political candidates are not eligible to be contestants on The Price is Right.

And to be clear, I didn't intend to imply anything when questioning Justine's eligibility.  I am simply perplexed by it, as I had seen those pictures posted about a year ago of her backstage at the show.  To me, it would raise a red flag.

Also, don't forget that "celebrity" (and I use that term very loosely) contestants are not a new occurrence on Price. Andrew Copeland, drummer for rock band Sister Hazel, was on in the late 90s and Douglas "Ox" Baker, former NWA amd AWA pro wrestler, was on in the early 80s. At the time of their appearances, both were prominent in their selected field but, with people like this, celebrity is all relative. Being a tech junkie and a wrestling fan, I can immediately identify iJustine and Ox Baker. But Andrew Copeland? Not so much.

True... I don't know how I forgot about that, because I'm probably the only person here who has actually been affected by that provision...

So, if I'm given a tour of TVC, and just happen to come across the Plinko set sitting in the hallway, take a picture of myself beside it, and post it on Facebook, does that make me ineligible? In today's world, everyone and their dog can become a pseudo reality celebrity if they put their mind to it. Unless they really dropped the ball there and failed to do their eligibility check properly, she seems as eligible as the next guy. Vanna White appeared on the show and was most certainly in Hollywood actively seeking fame and fortune. Would that have been enough reason not to give her the chance to play?

As for the people moaning and groaning that the show wasn't "special" enough?... It was 7000 shows. 1000 more shows than 6000. A nice achievement to be sure, but not exactly an excitable hallmark. Call me when it reaches 10,000. They produced a fine show suitable for today's / last Janaury's accomplishment.

5,000 - cheaper cars, but ALL CARS.  6,000 - wasn't that the episode where Amy won like 90 some odd thousand dollars in prizes?  7,000 - wow, insanely expensive trips!!!

Very indicative of the show at this point, although they seem to be slowly backing off on going trip crazy lately.

I have 900 friends on facebook, does that make me a celebrity too?! lol jkjk
Well... thinking it over... someone ordering food at In N Out recognized me the next day... and a few random people from my school came up to me to ask me if "i was on the price is right?!"

Why is everybody bringing up previous well-known contestants?  That isn't the (potential) problem here.

It was a regular daytime show with insane trip prices that actually got revealed for once, about 20 mentions too many of the number 7,000, and a really badly-thought-out Double Prices.

Steve - I think a lot of people are bringing up previous "celebrity" contestants because some people think the problem is that she's a "celebrity" (and yeah, that might legitimately be a problem, though not one affecting one's eligibility - Price is about ordinary folks, and has a reputation to keep).

The issue is who allowed her to be backstage, and would she potentially be "affiliated" with that person (if a CBS employee) in a way that would make her ineligible.

I know a lot of us here like to think the folks running the show are incompetent, but wouldn't an issue like this be handled by CBS's S&P, not Price & Fremantle? I think if it really were an issue, S&P would've stepped in, and we would've seen that infamous disclaimer at the end of the show.
