Good show today.

Hardly anyone is getting the second prize on Golden Road correct.

Nice Bailout on Gas Moolah.

Cliffy was easy.

I know a couple people in chat were locally pre-empted due to the wedding, but I'd like to thank CBS for not being goofy nationally so the majority of us could enjoy Golden Road, normal for the 2nd straight playing today.

One abnormal thing though is they've been pretty cheap compared to the past couple of years - 73215, now 71xxx. The Caddy CTS-V looked exactly like Jalesse's in 3X, the -V pretty much accounted for all the 26k difference there, which is all inside. A bit underwhelming compared to that. But since they were setting up for Brian to get to the Caddy at least, I guess it's not a big deal.

Unfortunately, the lowered contestant quality does mean people aren't going to have any idea no repeats can show up in Goldy, which is a shame. Regardless of this though, 7662 looked wrong, even the nuts seemed to not like it much. Wonder if a hand signal got crossed up?

?Switch? was particularly tough today, but actually pretty fair. Definitely should be two very different trips every time it is for trips.

...What the heck are the Big Wheel numbers made of? I mean yeah, Brian elbowed right on the 7, but on that replay it really broke cleanly with no resistance. I'm still surprised.

Gas Money was played excellently again, and on the cheapest option setup at that - very good. They definitely wanted that zero-option Cruze to cause the loss despite -995 (cars aren't really attractive with -995, actually).

Wow, like I read on the GSN forums by the recapper there, we all thought she lost on that mandelin. They must have really wanted the win there for the setup to be so cheap, because I do understand her guess given she doesn't know the increasing nature of Cliffy...it's just a big knife, basically.

EDIT: Over the past two years, I think 3 people have gotten to the car in 6 playings. That's above average even for random luck (assuming no wipeout, which they are properly setting up now), so we're fine.

First time since January 12, 2009 that a contestant bailedout on Gas Money with decent winnings(the 1 other bailout this year was a $1,000 winner).  What was Brian thinking guessing 6 for the hot tub when there was already a 6 in the price?  More importantly when will Drew Carey finally be able to see a 2nd Golden Road win in his career(after the April 4, 2008 MDS)?

A stroke of absolute brilliance to get a slo-mo shot of Brian destroying the Wheel going to break. I laughed SO hard at that. Please, DiPirro, don't leave us!

I wondered the exact same thing. It was impossible to tell from viewing it on TV, but they can't be very dense material.

I thought it was a cute comment from Drew about bring out the Purple Wheel though :P

I was always under the impression the numbers were made of a hard material, most likely plastic, but if that were the case Brian would probably have injured himself if he hit it hard enough to break it, so that isn't likely.

The best part of the show today by far was the first Drew win in...a while. When Drew said "Oh no, looks like we'll have to use the purple wheel tomorrow" I nearly fell off my chair.
"Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better." - Sydney J. Harris

“For the premiere of season 30, CBS wanted to do a special primetime show. However, they asked that we also add a gimmick or a twist to make it truly special. I came up with the suggestion of taking the show on the road for the first time in its history." - Roger Dobkowitz

I agree with vader about the purple wheel comment - both that comment and the instant replay were perfect reactions to that very odd moment. It makes me wonder how easy it is for that to happen, and why it's never happened in 40 years for the wheel to "break" like that.

Today was just a fun show to end the week all around. It was great to see a surprise Golden Road, even if it ended frustratingly, and from there the rest of the show was solid. (That playing was set up to get to the Caddy 100% - 5 looked by far the best there. Ah well.)  Gas Money felt like a win even though it wasn't one, just because it was played intelligently on a tough setup, we got to see a rare Switch? for trips, the showcases actually had good themes and prizes in them, and the Wheel incident - yeah, today was a good one. This has been a solid week actually of all "normal" shows except for one guest. I hope we can keep it up once we reach some of these theme shows coming up next week.

Timings:
Golden Road (6) - 5:04
Push Over (4) - 3:41
Switch? (3.5)- 3:45
Pick A Pair (4.5) - 4:09
Gas Money (5.5) - 5:02
Cliff Hangers (4.5) - 4:09
Total (28): 26:50

They're 3 years old. The previous numbers were decades old and weren't falling off the wheel on-air.

/Although no one was punching them enthusiastically either. :P

I'll have to watch the first showcase showdown on the CBS website I guess; the middle portion of today's broadcast wasn't shown in my area because of breaking news on a fire.

On Golden Road: I was shouting "No! No! No!" when Brian chose the "6" for the hot tub price. That was a ridiculous choice considering how the game is structured (usually I suppose).

Call me a bit weird, perhaps, but I enjoyed hearing "seven thousand dollars" over and over today during Gas Money. We just don't hear that round number on Price much; of course we hear "10,000", "a thousand", "5,000" and even "8,000" a lot more often.

ISTR a mid 80s GOlden ROad playing with $3992 the price of the second prize, going from 26 year old memory.

i don't see a difference between the new wheel numbers and the old wheel numbers
