I never noticed that Race's timer had a set position on screen and that it was fiddled with. Wonder if the new director will fiddle / change it back.

GuyWithFace: It was just a 13' boat. It was clearly not going to even be close to the 40s, and the SC didn't look close to 30, which ended up being the case. A guru should be able to see that as well.

Well, I'll be damned.  If it isn't veteran game show champion Scott Hostetler (Press Your Luck, Whammy!, Trivia Trap, etc.) to start the show.  After 30 years, he still looks the same.  You're right, Drew.  He does look like a winner.

I would have laughed out loud if Scott had played Flip Flop or the showcases for a trip to Hong Kong.

We just saw a Race Game contestant last week go from 1 right to all 4 right in one turn.  If that wasn't rare enough, Janey pulled off the unbelieveable:  all 4 wrong to all 4 right in one turn.

Wow... a contestant played That's Too Eighth, and won.

Indeed he was (not exactly a speech; more an exclamation), in late 1983 -- he was part of the opening montage for at least some of the 1984 episodes GSN aired.

Flip-Flop: A toss-up between the $84xx choices, and he got on the right side of the coin, thankfully. And I thought this guy looked (and sounded) familiar…

Gas Money again? Really? Well, it's the cheapest price up there again… and of course, she goes straight for it. And she'll get plenty of flak about that back at her job, for sure.

Race Game time! Wow, she was wasting time there with some odd price choices on that first try, but she still managed the 0-to-4!

Eazy Az 1-2-3: Yep, another victim of the cheap motorscooter.

That's Too Much!: Well, any other day, this would be a horrible way to end the regular season, but Caroline managed to beat the 8th-price setup!

I personally believe it was more of the "do not be stupid" strategy of not bidding less than $20,000 because you otherwise leave yourself wide open in the event your opponent is not over.

In my opinion, that "strategy" is baloney. If the opponent bid so high that you think he/she is over, chances are, if he/she is not over, he/she is actually really close to the ARP and however close your $18,000 bid is (there have been sub-$20K showcases), it's not going to cut it. (Obviously, there are exceptions, but they're rare, I'd say.) If you're confident your opponent is over, bid conservatively or bid $1, but don't bother trying to establish any kind of safety net in case your opponent is not over.

Gee, you don't think the reason it was left over was because they could give away a showcase that included a trip to an Olympic event as close to the Olympics as possible, do you?  (And the match against France is part of the Olympics, as opposed to being a training match - the soccer tournament tends to be played in various cities throughout the host country.)

Speaking of the Olympics, I was a little surprised TPIR was even allowed to mention the Olympics; usually, only "official sponsors" are allowed to use it, as otherwise it would imply some sort of "approval" by the IOC (you will see lots of mentions of "the games" and "London" in advertising, but only official sponsors can use the eight-letter O-word).  Then again, I suppose NBC considers it free advertising by CBS.

Well, this was a pretty nice show to unofficially end the season on. Let's see how the make-good, 4th of July, and Back to School episodes do.

You know, I wasn't too torn up about that Gas Money wipeout. I will say that I thought it was one of the easiest setups of the year. I don't consider Jeeps to be "up there" and although they can be loaded, I think 22K was the clear choice here.

Another logical playing of Race Game. Great, just great. Now she was way too slow for a game called "Race Game", but when you think like that and put the puzzle together quickly I guess it works out well.

Great win in Now...or Then. Have the lights on the far side of the board always been obstructed by the board? It looked like the lights were out, until I realized it just the board blocking it.

And another great win in That's Too Much. Where was this Dad/Daughter combo on Friday?

Yikes. What an overbid.
Also, did George say a "thirteen inch Boston Whaler"? Or did I miss the "foot 3"?

Here's hoping the make-good is a hidden gem, like the make-good from Season 39.

It truly makes absolutely no difference -- just because you can bid $1 on your Showcase does not mean that you ever should. It is common sense not to leave yourself wide open, because there is always the possibility that the other Showcase has been "sexed-up", personal confidence be damned.

Yet, when people smell the stench of a skunked show and you think a El Skunko isn't far behind, I think it's fair for one of the Showcase contestants to bid $1. To my knowledge, this has happened more than once in the Carey era: Once in 11/09/2009 and again in 4/15/2011.

Nice wins on Flip Flop, Now Or Then, and, of all games, That's Too Much!   That win on Race Game was pure luck.

The reveal of Scott's showcase could've been more suspenseful, IMO.

Good show overall, IMHO.
