Good thing Range was won...........And good on Brooke for getting that BEIJING* trip. And Lydia was the first  :dsw: of this season.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

A decent lineup except for Stack's futility..........But at least, there was a silver lining in today's dark cloud at the end, thanks to Lydia (Poor Christopher, though). The selfie thing was OK.

*I kinda messed that up on today's chat when I confused Japan over Beijing........And Japan is a country. SMH

My two cents:

Danger Price: Glad to see it back, not glad to see a loss. And right down to the wire!
Money Game: Tough break. 'Nuff said. (NOTE: Don't think the 43 is there just for decoration this season)
Plinko: $2,000. Better than last time. And not a bad payday, either.
Range Game: Wow! Just barely made it! And what a pricey trip that was.
Stack the Deck: OUCH! That's gotta hurt.
Bargain Game: Tough break. 'Nuff said. But at least she won both Showcases!

Showcases: Both Showcases were okay, and seeing them both won makes them even better!

And I liked that selfie in one of the SCSD's.

I always find it funny: usually when the first person is over, Drew doesn't make a comment, and it's either a double overbid or the second person was off by a couple of thousand dollars. On the other hand, it seems that every time when Drew says that he hates starting with an overbid because it spells trouble, it ends up being a DSW. So it almost seems to be a pattern and a good predictor - we get a DSW if Drew says he hates starting with an overbid.

At least, that seems to be my observation when I've seen DSW clips from the past few years.

And incidentally, it seemed the DSW sounds went on for longer than they usually do, either for a DSW, Grand Game win, or whenever else it's used.
There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

I think sometimes the clanging & whooping sound goes on for a long time myself. I know they'd do this sometimes when Bob Barker hosted.

The car game winning streak couldn't quite be sustained today, but at least we had a DSW today on what was an otherwise meh show.

Money Game was played for the third time in this season. This game has been really rough, having been lost all 3 plays during the season.
Those first two spins in the first showcase showdown, that was painful, although I remember it happening on the second day of Celebrity Week 2012.
It's nice that the contestant got all 3 of the grocery prizes right in Stack the Deck, but it's a bummer that she failed. Never choose the first digit if you're playing for a car worth about $10-30 grand.
Bargain Game was also played for the third time in this season.

That was an amazing Double Showcase Win! I did not see that coming, as I felt very excited for the contestant.

Even if she chose the last 3 digits, the remaining numbers would've been:

1 2 7 9

It would've been a toss-up between 1-9 and 2-1 for the first 2 numbers in the price of the Elantra.

Either way, the setup, in general, wasn't even that terrible if you stop and think........So maybe Mike's really trying his hardest to make sure someone would win it..........But somehow, we're seeing a decent number of "close but no cigars" on Stack as of late.

Absolutely right. And even if she went for the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th digit with her picks (leaving her with a $-15-0 board & accounting for common sense in knowing it'd be a $21,5-0 car), it'd come down to pick-a-number for the 4th digit, with 3, 7, and 9 all equally likely to be correct.

Cindy certainly didn't do herself any favours by asking for the 1st digit for free, but the end result would likely be the same even if she didn't ask for the 1st digit: a loss.

Danger Price: Setup to be won. Too bad it wasn't. The computer and the washer/dryer set were very nice prizes although designer shoes certainly aren't my thing.

Money Game: While finding the back is always going to be harder than finding the front, contestants should REALLY be picking up by now on the fact the season number is almost always going to be wrong. NEVER call the season number when you're on your final pick. It's unfortunate the Chevy Sonic won.

Plinko: $2000 is a little less than I'd like here. I need to see at least $2500 won in a cash game before I feel we had "decent amount" won.

Range Game: Waited jusssst long enough. Our only win of the day. Beijing  is a nice trip and thank goodness this saved from a winless show.

Stack the Deck: More than one thing can be true. Today's contestant was quite stupid to waste a free pick on the ten thousands digit. But as others have already pointed out, that setup was brutal regardless. The recent setups in Stack the Deck have been so difficult that it might as well be a luck based game. And it's really a shame the Hyundai Elantra wasn't won, especially since today's contestant did so well in the GP portion. Also, while I normally don't like Drew commenting about games being hard or tough I had no problem with the mention today because it's so obviously true here.

Bargain Game: TVs and treadmills are both items that can have wide variations in pricing so that was quite tough though I would have won it.

Showcases: The Toyota Yaris showcase was the better showcase but the Spain showcase was good in its own right and GREAT to see BOTH showcases won.

Lineup: Good. Danger Price, Range Game, and Money Game are all favorites and Danger Price makes a strong lead off hitter and it was nice to see it turn up. Bargain Game is enjoyable and is a good closer. I don't like Plinko because it's so luck based and I've come to dislike Stack the Deck owing to the difficult setups. Good overall lineup.

Overall: The DSW turned this show from below average to good. That was a real show saver today.
« Last Edit: October 09, 2014, 05:31:14 PM by moneygamelover »
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Cindy certainly didn't do herself any favours by asking for the 1st digit for free, but the end result would likely be the same even if she didn't ask for the 1st digit: a loss.

Except that the last 3 gives you only 2 options (19 or 21 - 50% chance of a win) where what she did gave 2 options (21 or 23) and then the choice of several for the (1or3) 7 or 9 for the 4th # and the 2nd/4th/5th combo gives you a 1 in 3 chance (assuming you then know the 1st number).

Thanks also for the recap for those (locally) who missed the 1st half for one of those "press conferences" which was 5 minutes of info followed by 15 minutes of questions that were answered 99.9 of the time by "No Comment" or "We don't have that information yet" (crime investigation).  The 5 minutes would have been just fine :)

A thoroughly unimpressive episode... until Lydia hit the :dsw: .

My showcase bids:
Car--$25,707
Spain--$18,707
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

I'm not sure if they did it a lot back then, but there was an episode from the 80's on YouTube where the clanging and whooping went on throughout the entire credit roll.
