C-H: Patricia overcame a lackluster start on the first SP.

CoG: The Summerset stuff claims another victim.

10C: Carl was fortunate that he even got two chances to win that car.

SS: Easy.

L$: I can't believe Omar won the MINI Cooper like that- he ignored the fact that he had a $4 range & managed to guess the last number right out of thin air!

1RP: Danielle (in wheelchair) escapes FFBC banishment & makes it a perfect 2nd half!

SCSD #2: And we have an $11K winner!

Showcases: Rodolfo's bid only roughly covered the FIAT.

Today's good ep. had quite a few crazy contestants (especially Omar) who bid really high & really low

What a weird and wacky show we had today.
Really outrageous bids , bad playing of 10 Chances , someone actually spinning on a 75, instead of staying , during the Showcase Showdown. Then what takes the cake? The miracle Lucky Seven win , where all the contestant had to do was pick 5 for the last number for a guaranteed win , picks a 9 and still wins. Plus a $11,000 on the wheel after the contestant wanted to stay on a 20. Funniest show of the year so far.

This sure was a nutty episode.

THE BAD NEWS:

CoG: Guess they're going back to the whole "Trip Is Going And Everything Else Is Coming" strategy.

10C: Now there's someone who doesn't know the zero rule. Horrible playing from Carl.

THE GOOD NEWS:

Cliffhangers: Good thing Patricia hit the nail on the head with the toaster. And she also won a pontoon as well.

Spree: Rodolfo really needs to switch to decaf.  :P Funny enough, he almost came close to picking the coffee products but changed his mind and picked the shoes.

L7: I have to say that Omar is one of the best players of that game in a while! Wonderful job!

ORP: Easy win by Danielle!

THE BOTTOM LINE:

This sure was a very unusual 4/6-er today. Ridiculous bids ($8500, $12000, $7500...Stop being like Corey!!!), crazy contestants, but good wins.

I can think of one phrase that sums up some of the bidding...

...it's over 9000!!!

(Seriously. It's as if they're trying to make Corey a meme.)

What?!? How can you possibly think that Omar was one of the best players of L7?    Drew did everything but tell him directly "say 5 and you win automatically", and Omar got incredibly lucky that 9 worked out.

You can blame the blinking lights and cameras all you want, but this show was just filled with astonishingly bad play from people who could not grasp very basic concepts of the situation, whether you 'know the show' or not.

The question is, is this 'good' for the show?  Most LFATs here would likely say no (or would you?), but... if everyone played 'perfectly' (knows the zero rule, stays on 75, doesn't bid 8500 after a 12000 bid, OR 497 after a 500 bid, etc etc)... wouldn't the show be 'solved', meaning, so routine that the excitement wanes until the show is gone?

But... is the reverse, like we saw to today with no less than SIX bang your head against the wall moments, what the show really wants either?

I think you can say the entire Drew era has been an experiment between those two polar extremes, and this episode is a fascinating litmus test for what "is best", whatever the heck that means.

I will carefully word my opinion of today's show.  Over the years, we've seen plenty of examples of "questionable" bids and such by various contestants.  I've never, in all my years watching, seen SO MANY baffling game-play decisions in a single show.
  • Odd IUFB bid?  A few times.
  • Dubious "Big Wheel strategy"?  Yup.
  • Not knowing the "Zero Rule"?  It's there.
  • Brilliant Lucky 7 play almost neutralized by mind-numbing last number pick?  Sure.

And surprisingly, it was still an enjoyable show.  I'm not sure how that happens.  Was there a full moon the day it was filmed or something??

"Questionable" is one of the few words you can use when you really don't like what someone did.

PS ... powers that be, is that the first known spin on 75?

I do recall a spin on 90.

(...after somebody else already had the dollar, that is.)

LOL... Obviously I mean a first spin with no number to beat.    Would love to see footage if it exists, to see how Bob handled that (assuming it's not in the Drew era)!

Seeing Danielle play for a treadmill and sauna on One Right Price didn't bother me that much in that maybe she is married or dating someone who could make use of the treadmill, the more intresting issue might have been her playing Ten Chances, Plinko or Let 'Em Roll and maybe Pathfinder...but CBC News and others have glomed onto Danielle 's win

Considering Danielle was one of the First Four, I have to wonder whether it was dumb luck that all of today's games were "wheelchair friendly" or if there was some game substitutions after it was decided she would be a contestant.

10 Chances would still be very much playable by Danielle by having her simply tell Drew (or one of the models?) what to write for her guess.

Race Game, Bonkers, Hole in One, and many other games, all would prove to be much more challenging for a wheelchair bound contestant.

As for Danielle playing for the treadmill, there was an opportunity for Drew to make an ill-advised joke or comment, even if it was meant to be harmless.  I'm glad he didn't.

In the past, they would wait to call an elderly/disabled contestant down until after Bonkers/Race/etc. were played. However, this no longer seems to be the case.

Cliffhangers: A comeback win is always a satisfying way to start a show. Awesome job by today's contestant to get the toaster on the nose to dig herself out of that hole. Decent guess on the gummy bear maker to clinch a nice Costa Rica trip. The toaster was a pretty nice SP and the gummy bear maker was a cool thing.

Coming or Going: Easy setup blown. Summerset products are expensive. The Summerset outdoor living room set was a quality prize and it's too bad it wasn't won.

10 Chances: Definitely one of the worst playings of any game this season. Today's contestant violated the zero rule SIX times. Then he also let the audience talk him into a worse guess on his final chance instead of making his own choice. It's a shame that the Ford Fiesta wasn't won and this playing goes off to the Price is Right Hall of Shame.

Shopping Spree: The TV and the motorcycle were very obviously the two most expensive prizes so it came down to a 50-50 shot. I too would have won by picking the coffee products. The TV and the motorcycle were fantastic prizes but the shoes weren't my thing.

Lucky $even: I'm never going to complain about seeing a win and I'm definitely never going to complain about a mini cooper win. But the bad gameplay exhibited by today's contestant on the ones digit is indisputable. With $4 to lose on the final number, by math, guessing 5 is a guaranteed win. Guessing 9 makes it a 55% chance of winning. Had the final number been 1-4 this would have been an epic choke, the Price is Right equivalent of the Yankees losing the 3-0 lead in the 2004 ALCS. Today's contestant was very lucky that things worked out. Nonetheless, still great to see a mini cooper win.

One Right Price: Neither treadmills nor saunas are amongst my favorite prizes but it was still good to end the day with a win.

Showcases: The Fiat 500 showcase was the better showcase and it's disappointing that it wasn't won.

Lineup: Good: Cliffhangers is a big favorite and a great lead off hitter. 10 chances and Lucky $even are also favorites. Shopping Spree is a decent game. Coming or Going is one of the dullest games on the show and One Right Price is a game that neither helps nor hurts lineups although it's not a great closer. Overall a good lineup.

Overall: 4 for 6 with a car game win and a good lineup made this a good show. Some noticeably bad gameplay prevented this show from earning a very good rating.
« Last Edit: May 05, 2015, 05:59:29 PM by moneygamelover »
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.
