Clock starts when the bell rings.
Then why does Drew tell the contestant "as soon as you start talking the clock starts"?

Also, could the show sync the clock ticking sound effect to align with the actual seconds disappearing from the game board? The sound effect ticks seem to be just slightly less than 1-second apart.

Hm... Scott, is that what you told him?

OK, but in all seriousness, as Barker used to say, "The clock will start with your first bid on the...", when the contestant starts talking, that should be by giving his first bid; and thus the clock starts.  Yes, that is technically after the contestant starts taking that the clock starts moving, but timing it exactly to when the contestant speaks is more complicated than its worth doing, so making it after the first bid is spoken with the sound of the bell ensures accurate timing.
Roger Dobkowitz's Seven Commandments of The Price Is Right:
1. Tape and edit the show as if it were live.
2. Never tell the contestant what to do.
3. Size matters. (The bigger the prize, the better the prize and the bigger the reaction.)
4. All prizes are good.
5. Never do anything on the show that would embarrass a parent with a kid watching.
6. Never put on a prize that would make the show look cheap.
7. It’s the game, stupid! (It’s about the game.)

Wasn’t Bob’s spiel something along the lines of the clock starting on your first bid?  Basically the same action just sloppier verbiage.
They can be close at the top, too.

Why do 3-digit prices on the Take game board not line up with 4-digit prices? Since the game is addition, wouldn't it make sense for the ones, tens and hundreds digits for 3-digit and 4-digit prizes to line up?
