The less said about the skunk in Golden Road, the better. I may have put a dent in my desk from pounding my head against it in frustration.

Yea, bomb indeed, but remember we did have a Golden Road win (and a Luxury Game sweep of the three existing games, GR, Triple Play, and Pay The Rent) earlier this season, in December.  That is probably more Luxury Game wins this season than any other in recent memory.

I know it's traditional, but isn't it getting hard to find items that cost less than $1 for Golden Road? Why not use, for example, a $27 item as the first prize?

They could also do like the early years of Temptation and have a three-digit item but with one digit obviously wrong, such as $1.49.

They would have to add another rule, because when a small prize is offered, it can be won. Grocery items can not.

I guess in Golden Road, you'd keep a sub-$100 prize regardless of outcome, or you must earn it but it would not count towards the 3-digit value.

Mariobrosaa's Play-Along: 8 June 2021

One-Bid 1: $928 (Loss)
Golden Road: 7 for the first prize... but we don't know what the other two prices are. Let's say they're $5,000 and $76,000 for simplicity. I'll give myself a 1/3 chance of winning the second prize and a 1/4 chance of winning the third prize... I win the second prize but not the third. (Partial Win - $5,760)

One-Bid 2: $520 (Win - $668 + Cynthia Doubler)
Flip Flop: I "flip" to 7593 (Loss)

One-Bid 3: $1,600 (Loss)
Pick-a-Pair: I pick the detergent and the avocados... which are not a pair. I would have picked the avocados and crackers next, but without any other prices being revealed, I'll just give myself a 1/3 chance of winning. (Loss)

SCSD1 (Cynthia): Loss

One-Bid 4: $1,200 (Loss)
Shopping Spree: I pick every product except the karaoke machine (Win - $8,922)

One-Bid 5: $570 (Loss)
Push Over: I choose 6932 (Win - $6,932)

One-Bid 6: $510 (Win - $530 + Lindsay Doubler)
Master Key: I get both SPs right and pick keys 5 and 1. Key 3 was revealed to be the master key, so I'll randomize the other outcomes among the other keys... Key 5 opens the car care products, and key 1 is blank. (Partial Win - $1,331)

SCSD2 (Lindsay): Loss

SC1: $30,500 - over
SC2: $21,251 - difference of $1,013 (Win - $22,264)

Total Score For This Episode: $48,936
Watching since the late 2000s, playing along since 2021.

They used two-digit small prizes in Golden Road back in the '90s on TPIR with Doug Davidson. I particularly remember seeing a fire extinguisher used.

Today, Drew was trying to help in Golden Road, saying “all of that”. And he sounded genuinely disappointed when the contestant decided that the coffee package was priced in the $200 range. This isn’t 1975, when the game premiered and a Jaguar was also offered, priced at a bit over $10,000 (audible gasps!) :-)

My ears! That winning Pick-A-Pair contestant. (And she won her Showcase Showdown. And she won her showcase.)

Lucky master key find!

Theoretically this would work.......but then again today the 2 was obviously wrong.

Live for the present.  Embrace the future.  Our favorite game show is still producing excellent, high quality, exciting, hour-long* shows every weekday throughout its traditional season window.  It’s as good as it’s been in a long, long time.  If the 1980s were the ‘good ole days’ for the Barker era, so is RIGHT NOW for the Carey era.  Don’t worry about what the future holds.  It will play out in due time.  Enjoy what we have right in front of us in the meantime!

Nice to see Golden Road, and of course he should've gotten past the coffee package. Hopefully it gets 1 more playing this season to try for redemption.

At least after Flip Flop we had better results the rest of the show, including the Master Key being selected!

The Doug Davidson version didn't use "dollars and cents" prizes in any of its games (except for the occasional playing of "The Price Was Right" to determine who got into the showcase), IIRC - including Grand Game.

Picking 2 instead of 7 was truly inexcusable. A real "uh oh" moment when he even hesitated.

Yeah, I don't know if they could have made it any easier.

Sometimes you just get a contestant that can't rule out an obviously wrong answer, and when that happens it regrettably makes Golden Road a pretty anti-climactic game.

I don't watch all the shows all the time anymore but do get to catch the second half and the Fabulous Showcases often.
Is it just me or is it really bizarre to give away new tires in a game with a new car?
They can be close at the top, too.

More bizarre to me is that the first prize in Key was more than those tires, but only by $50. The two smaller prizes in Rat/Key should be in order and decently far apart in price.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...
