They would have to add another rule, because when a small prize is offered, it can be won. Grocery items can not.

I guess in Golden Road, you'd keep a sub-$100 prize regardless of outcome, or you must earn it but it would not count towards the 3-digit value.

During the 1994 TNPiR, a small prize was always the starting on on GR. Don't see why it can't be done.

They could also do like the early years of Temptation and have a three-digit item but with one digit obviously wrong, such as $1.49.
Honestly, the most idiot-proof solution (and Iím surprised it hasnít been done) would be to have a 3 digit grocery item but with a repeated digit (I.e. $2.29).  That way, you still have only 2 choices but you can allow more expensive groceries.

Holy crap did the show run short today.  They obviously weren't expecting Golden Road to be bombed -- it ended way early, and nothing ever managed to balance it out.  Even with the full credits, the online version only came in at 37:46.

Taylor seemed to want to be the center of attention, making some sort of extra remark every time he bid.  I was really glad he never got out of Contestants' Row.

Was the trip to Belize the first mainland vacation this year that was farther away than Mexico?

Or one with a zero, like $3.09.

Recap delayed for a multitude of reasons plus the long lineup.

Sorry on the delay.

Also, fun fact. I've not stayed at, but I have been next to the Glacier Park Lodge in May 2017.

Which makes it even more confusing why Drew started with the master key when the other could have been used to eat up some time.

I suppose there's only two explanations - he got confused, or the other key was the car (even though he's treated them the opposite way in the past).

I don't watch all the shows all the time anymore but do get to catch the second half and the Fabulous Showcases often.
Is it just me or is it really bizarre to give away new tires in a game with a new car?

It's just as odd when they have a car stereo system as a one bid before a car game, but I guess people would rather upgrade that then their tires? Still always boggles me

Shopping Spree was played really well today, though I wasn't expecting a $3500 range out of the blue. Adam, in your post after the recap, that's a really pretty picture.

Maybe, but then again, you'd likely still have a contestant blurt out the obviously wrong answer (1 in your example) as their choice of the hundreds digit in the three-digit price of GR.

And while based on circulating episodes no one ever guessed the obviously wrong digit as the first number in Temptation Ė in a handful of episodes, seemingly all early in the game's life, the prize with three different possible choices always seemed to be the thousands digit, IIRC Ė that's not to say it never happened. It's certainly possible that a non-circulating episode Ė i.e., one with a fur coat in it Ė nobody has seen in 40-plus years has had a contestant whiff on the first digit. (After all, we had the Lucky Seven contestant who, in a 1983 episode aired recently on Pluto, guessed 1 as the first number when the price was four digits (i.e., $9,999 or less)).

As for this episode's case, either the GR contestant was clueless or honestly and earnestly thought the coffee package was $250.

Sometimes you just get a contestant that can't rule out an obviously wrong answer, and when that happens it regrettably makes Golden Road a pretty anti-climactic game.

I agree with the thought, but my guess is that while he certainly may have been clueless, it's just also possible he thought 2 was indeed the correct answer. But keep in mind that the coffee package isn't your normal Folgers or Nescafe but gourmet (i.e., likely more expensive than discount-store or even mainstream brands) coffee.

Golden Road: PAINFUL Wipeout
Flip Flop: WOW THAT WAS CHEAP
Pick a Pair: Hey Win
Shopping Spree: Fairly Easy
Push Over: Well it was won
Master Key: Hello Again
