Could've sworn I'd seen in one of Adam Nedeff's books, that it was Allen himself who told NBC/GT to call Tom.

Wouldn't surprise me! I also wouldn't be surprised if Betty had a hand in it as well.

Buzzr is also having Whew! as part of their 6th Annual "Lost and Found" marathon on September 25, but there is no word yet on wether it's a random episode, the 1978 pilot, or something else.

And could Showoffs be the Larry Blyden pilot or a random Bobby Van ep that's made the YouTube rounds?

Wouldn't mind watching the Mindreaders episode. Yeah, the show wasn't that great, but at least it's interesting.

It would be a lot of fun to have this show returned on tv with a new set and new bad guys bonus round.

I was able to catch most of the mini-marathon over the weekend. It's a fairly entertaining show. What is the reasoning behind why this show has not aired since it was canceled on CBS all those years ago?

It’s how the world works though. We all need money, and it’s how businesses pay their employees.

See, i was under the impression that this show (and others) were mostly held back by rights, not money so much.

I think it's probably more like Burt Sugarman priced himself out of the market and over-valued the show for years. The show is fun and all, but networks don't want to spend too much to license out a show that only has a niche appeal to it.

Nice to finally watch the show and not having to deal with fourth-fifth generation tape copies.

Sounds about right, since I'd heard somewhere that (allegedly) GSN has attempted to get the show in the past, and been shut out.

So does anybody know if Fremantle is merely licensing the rights to air the show from Sugarman, or did they buy it outright along with the name and game format?
