Just when you think College Football couldn’t change anymore, and just when you got used to a new era, here come the Super Conferences! Pac-12 is done! The Big 12 is done! The ACC is TBD!
Okay, that’s not starting until 2024. However, I might not rule out things trending that way as soon as next year. Until then, this is slated to be the penultimate year where things are somewhat normal. In other words, the usual 5 power conferences, the group of five, and whatever else. FWIW, the future restructuring of College Football likely will impact the CFB Playoff and a possible expansion.
Until then, the 2022 season has to be played. As is the custom each year (and not counting Week Zero), things get rolling during Labor Day Weekend. This year, it’s the start of the month of September. Nice!
Things get rolling in a big way with West Virginia at Pittsburgh AND Penn State at Purdue. You have old BIG EAST teams facing off and current conference foes on 09/01. After that Thursday game, we’re dealing with a Michigan battle with MSU vs Western Michigan on 09/02 before we’re treated to a nice Saturday (09/03) full of great games from great teams: Oregon vs Georgia in the afternoon, and Notre Dame at Ohio State in primetime. Sunday night has LSU against Florida State (09/04), which is at the Superdome I think, and then Clemson vs Georgia Tech on Monday (09/05) in Atlanta (same venue for Oregon/Georgia on 09/03).
The 2021 SEC Champions, Alabama, open against "nobody" this year.
The Bulldogs begin their title defense as the Top Ranked team. They’re followed by Alabama, Michigan, Cincinnati, Baylor, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Oklahoma. That list, which will become meaningless as the season progresses, comes courtesy of CBS Sports. Finally, the season is slated to conclude on Monday, January 9th, 2023, with the National Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. That College Football Playoff Final wraps up the year’s Bowl Season, which starts on Saturday, December 17th, 2022 I believe. Included in those postseason games are the New Year’s Six games featuring the Peach, Cotton, Orange, Fiesta, Rose, and Sugar Bowl Games. Whatever happens, it should be a great 2022 College Football Season!
