The $100,000 Pyramid with Michael Strahan - Season Seven
« on: September 19, 2023, 06:23:51 PM »
Season 7 begins on Wednesday, September 27, and, at least according to my DVR, episode one of the season will feature Tiffany Haddish vs. Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Wayne Brady vs. Joel Kim Booster. I’m looking forward to next week for both Price and Pyramid. :-)

Out of all the celebrities on the first two weeks of this seaso, the only one I don't recognize is Joel. Is he a famous comedian or actor? Has he been in anything I've heard of?

He is a Korean comedian. At least for me what I know him from is his frequent appearances on NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me.
There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

Joel was also on the most recent season of primetime Celebrity Jeopardy! on ABC. Here's his J-Archive player page.

Energetic start to season seven tonight. And with not one but two $50,000 wins! Great to see the classic game show back.

With the standard by George and Ira Gershwin in mind, I thought of “A London day” as my first clue for Things That Are Foggy. Strahan’s “glasses” was a great additional clue.

Mystery 7 win! And nice way to get “shortstop” without referring to baseball. 😊

First $50K win! I would have said “The THIRD little pig’s house” (for Places You See Bricks), but with all of the time available, it didn’t matter. Congratulations!

I would have said “Nip and…” for “tuck”.

Danielle was a good player, but I sensed overconfidence. And it’s easy to fall into the trap of saying “space” when describing NASA.

“A Las Vegas chapel”, “a small chapel”; Places You Get Married. And how about “the ten commandment tablets” and “a caveman’s tools” for Things Made of Stone?

I applauded from my seat after the second $50K win. Getting Things That Are Super with just one clue ("heroes") was beau-ti-ful, as Bob Barker used to say on occasion. I would have said "specially powered heroes" and perhaps "Clark Kent's alter ego". And I came up with "aluminum cans" and "old newspapers" for Things You Recycle.

@osupreston Would you tell us about your Pyramid experience? :-)

Universe: Planets, galaxies, stars
Bus: Driver, passengers, students
Foggy: Sauna, cold glasses, London
Italy: Rome, Colliseum, Venice, gondolas
Bricks: Third pig's house, Oz's yellow road
Wedding: Church, Las Vegas chapel
Stone: Countertop, statue
Yellow: "I'm the color of bananas, a school bus, and a brick road."
K words: Kentucky, ketchup, kitten, knot

Total cash won: $119,000. NOT the start I was hoping for.
1 Mystery 7 win
Don't expect Tiffany or Wayne to come back.

On the October 4th episode: Great first half hour main games! Very competitive.

Nice $50K win! “A baby’s bottom” came to my mind first for Things That Are Smooth.

And then a $100K win! First of the young season. I would have said a “skinny dipper” for Things That Are Naked (Nude). Excellent clues in “favors” for Party Supplies, “ a bulb” for Things That Give Light, and “Mr. Washington and Mr. Costanza” for Famous Men Named George. Sam was a fantastic player. Congratulations!

Yet another $50K win! Very good clue of “your choker” for Things on Your Neck. How about “your buttoned up collar” as well, if need be?

Mystery 7 win!

A second $100K try! No win this time, but more difficult subjects I would say. I thought of "magenta" for Shades of Red; couldn't come up with any others under the pressure of time. And Strahan's clue of "an echo" was great for Things That Repeat; the contestant's clues of "a stupid fourth grader" and "a stupid first grader" were entertaining, but a bit less "PC". :-)

Neck: Gold chain, scarf, hickey
Vegetables: Corn, Peas, Carrots, Broccoli
Repeat: An echo, previous season episodes, history

Total cash won: $209,500 Season total: $328,500
1st $150,000 win
2 tiebreakers
1 Mystery 7 win
Almost gave away $300,000

Has this show ever given out the maximum $300,000 in one show?

I don't think so.
