mj311's Price Is Right Episode 1: The Beginning
« on: July 11, 2024, 03:41:59 PM »
Greetings everyone! I always wanted to do an HYO on here but found the process of getting one planned out quite difficult. Also, this part of the site has been dead for years, and I've wanted to do my part to revive it. Now, thanks to some gentle nudging by gamesurf over on Discord, I'm stoked to say that I'm finally doing it!

This will be a half-hour format show consisting of three pricing games and the showcases. This means that it will be imperative to win your pricing game to have a shot at being in the showcase round.

There will be a standard 24-hour time limit on all decisions. Also, audience participation will not be allowed during the IUFBs but will be encouraged at all other times. I plan to start the show on Sunday night.

So, who wants to play?

Full disclosure: mungojerry311 asked on discord to share some advice about putting together a script, and I gave him some general pointers about finding and sourcing prizes without ever seeing his script or discussing what specific prizes or games he wanted to use. I don't know any more about what exactly he has in store than anyone else.

So since I'm in the dark as to specifics, I'll help him out further by jumping in the contestant pool.

"The sign of a good game, is when you don't have to explain it every day. The key is not simplicity, but apparent simplicity. Password looks like any idiot could have made it up, but we have 14 of our people working on that show. There is a great complexity behind the screen. It requires great work to keep it simple."

People are tired of the f**kery and drama, but if we'd actually talk to each other sometimes instead of a whole bunch of private conversations with other people, it'd go a long way to perhaps fixing the problems most seem to see in the site.

I'm gonna jump in. If I get called down, maybe the third time's the charm and I'll actually win a pricing game this time. :P

Live for the present.  Embrace the future.  Our favorite game show is still producing excellent, high quality, exciting, hour-long* shows every weekday throughout its traditional season window.  It’s as good as it’s been in a long, long time.  If the 1980s were the ‘good ole days’ for the Barker era, so is RIGHT NOW for the Carey era.  Don’t worry about what the future holds.  It will play out in due time.  Enjoy what we have right in front of us in the meantime!

I'm willing to be an alternate; but please call everyone else before me
"If any show, forget sports, Price is Right, [the audience is] the star of the show. Somebody... coming on down and losing their minds, and ... crying, that's the show. The show isn't me, the show isn't necessarily [a] can of soup, how much that is, it's watching people go bananas, and there's going to be some of that missing."

-Drew Carey, interview with Athletic, September 16, 2020

"I honestly thought the doubler was gone, but 9821 going $0 makes sense"

Alright, now that we have 7 players plus an alternate, I won't keep you all waiting any longer. This of course means one of you won't be called down, I'm sorry to say. Anyway, let's get this show started!

*Walking 2007 cue plays*

JohnnyBot: A fortune in fabulous prizes could go to these people today if they know when... THE PRICE IS RIGHT!

pathfinder20, come on down!
gamesurf, come on down!

And, geniusinmath, come on down!

You are the first four contestants on The Price Is Right!

*Intro to The Final Countdown by Europe plays*

And now, here is the host of The Price Is Right, mungojerry311!!!

*Door #2 opens*

*I walk out*

*I take the mic from JaniceBot and take a bow to thunderous applause*

mungojerry311: Thank you all, thank you! Welcome everyone to The Price Is Right!

Before we start the show, let's all give a hand to JohnnyBot!

*applause*

JohnnyBot: Thank you very much, I hope my programming is able to handle these modern-day prizes.

mungojerry311: I think you'll do just fine! Pathfinder, gamesurf, pricefan1989, and geniusinmath, welcome to show. JohnnyBot, what do you have for these fine people to bid on?

JohnnyBot: It's a handy washer and dryer!

(modeled by HollyBot)

From Samsung, this washer and dryer combo is ultra-modern and is sure to be welcome in any laundry room! The washer features Vibration Reduction Technology and the dryer has Sensor Dry and 10 preset drying cycles!

mungojerry311: Alright geniusinmath, what is your bid on that washer and dryer?
