The situation with site load has drastically increased in severity since Monday. In the past I've let these situations go as they're often one-offs, and enough people have been getting through. But now it's a constant problem 24/7, and certain people have had trouble getting through all week.
I have been working feverishly in most of my off-time since Wednesday night, and Discord bidding
is ready to go on my end. I didn't want to make this change midseason, but we're going to do this and perhaps never look back (for those not veterans of the site, the original flash chat WAS the way to play, not site DMs).
Notes- It is possible an overall fix for the site will include banning all bot-types from accessing the site, including mine. I reserve the right to declare that Discord bididng will be the only way to bid at some point. We have a handful of CSS players who are never in Discord, I hate to do this on potential short notice but this is your warning that this change could occur. Come join us!
- For now, both ways of bidding will be accepted. If you happen to bid both ways, site bids will override Discord bids. Please make your life easier and bid only one way... but you can mix how you bid for Plinko & actual showcases, if you really want.
- After today, where I accepted some very late bids due to the site situation, I will no longer take site borks into consideration when adjusting the deadline on a day.
How to BidI have made this as 1-to-1 with site bidding as possible. My bot, wayo.py, will be looking for bids in the 11:52 to 11:58:10 window (this is extended due to primetime, which has been revealing in the 57:xx minute instead of 56:xx) but I will still enforce 11:56:30, give or take a bit, as the deadline).
You just send a Discord DM to
wayo.py (NOT ME) and it will parrot back the bids to you in confirmation that they were sent (and I have a hidden log sent up elsewhere that it will copy these bids to). This will handle cases of deleting bad bids - even if you try to, all bids are captured once wayo.py confirms. Like site-side, wayo.py will only accept messages with two numbers of at least 10000 (will prune out $ and commas).
This will also work for Plinko bids - wayo.py will look for a message with one number anywhere from minute 4 to minute 41 of a daytime show. It's up to you to make your doubler bid a valid one and of course on time - I made this easier on me to code and will just double-check each time that the timestamps of these bids make sense with when Plinko is played. You all have been good and I've been lenient on known west coast people before, so don't abuse this, please.
How to Registerwayo.py will not listen for just any user - I'm going to implement a registration policy, by you guys getting my attention on Discord (either in the server or Dms). This will ensure people actually on this site are the ones still playing, which I will continue to use in spreadsheet results and leaderboard.
