Hans Herrmann, 97, the last living Formula One driver to score a podium in the 1950s (the first decade of the organized world championship) at the 1954 Swiss Grand Prix at the Circuit Bremgarten, finishing third behind Mercedes works teammate Juan Manuel Fangio and Ferrari's Jose Froilan Gonzalez. He would end up making his career at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, being the Porsche AG's factory's head driver for years and winning the 1970 Le Mans in the Porsche 917.
(Fun story, both Fangio and Herrmann at one point or another in their lives have been kidnapped. Fangio was abducted at the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix by a pro-Castro militant group who wanted some attention and released him after the race. Herrmann also got kidnapped in the 1990s and held for ransom of 1 million deutsche mark.)
