Enzo Aquarius:
The only reason I can think of would be to prevent the Plinko chip from falling OUT of the board (I think this happened with an international version of TPiR). I'm going to guess that the cover was removed because of this incident.

Now I know who to call if food gets stuck in a vending machine.  :lol:
