Modor, no one is immune from criticism, but if we resort to name calling, that puts us on about the same level...or even lower...than the person we're talking about. It's just childish, and I don't think it needs to be spelled out specifically in the rules...it's just common courtesy and common sense.

Isn't it true that if the show were not broadcast, the contestants wouldn't receive their winnings? ...

CBS's website says that contestants receive their winnings whether the show airs or not.  And if I recall correctly, the contestants in the "new host trial shows" in 2007 (which were not for broadcast) were awarded their winnings, albeit in the form of a cash substitute.  Still, it would suck if contestants who were on a regular show didn't get to see it air on TV.

As far as Joseph goes... some of you have already made mention of how he disgraced Sigma Nu.  It gets worse yet, however, when you consider that that's not just any fraternity...  it was Bob Barker's fraternity.  I propose they throw him out...

Most of the time, when you get a contestant like Joseph, it seems he'll make a "420" or "-69" bid for one or two rounds and then finally start taking it seriously.  But not Joseph...just as soon as you thought it might change, he goes and bids $2 million...

Despite Joseph's antics, today's show was actually pretty decent.  A good lineup (with the return of Secret X from its mini), and some great contestants.  Still gotta wonder what the heck happened during Let 'Em Roll to warrant such choppy and blatant editing.

Watched the clip on YouTube just now and see that Joseph, sadly, is member of my fraternity, Sigma Nu, though not my chapter at Mississippi State.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to point out Joseph is a member of a fraternity.  Tim, I feel for you as I'm also Greek (although I'm a Pi Kappa Phi, not Sigma Nu).  I really hate it when Greeks perpetuate stereotypes of frat boys (especially while wearing letters) as it reflects badly on all of us, no matter the chapter or house.

Given that Bob Barker is a Sigma Nu, you gotta wonder what Bob would've said had Joseph acted this way when he was hosting...

I have no doubt that the bids, in and of themselves, were legal -- but once a pattern emerges in which a contestant clearly attempts to undercut the program, then steps have to be taken to remove that contestant from the program, or else you're going to end up denigrating the program.

I would agree that he seemed to care more about being funny and getting attention on national TV than taking the game and show seriously.  But I can't see how Joseph was deliberately "undercutting" the show.  To me, that implies that he was somehow trying to cheat, break the rules, or otherwise compromise the inner workings of the show.  Sure, his actions were far from funny and definitely uncalled for, but I honestly believe he wasn't intentionally trying to undercut or ruin the show.

Don't get me wrong...he annoyed me just as much as he did (almost) everyone else.  I just think he wasn't doing this with malicious intent towards the show.

Well on that token, maybe they should toss Barker out, based on how he treats people behind the scenes.
