True, but it is his job to ensure contestants understand how to play their pricing game, which involves Drew understanding how all the pricing games are supposed to be played.

I believe Drew made it perfectly clear there were 5 digits in the price of the boat... the contestant FAILED. Not only did Drew specifically say there were 5 digits in the price of the boat, but included his typical, "push until the price of the boat appears in this blue area here." The blue area today comprised of five digits... If that's not obvious to the contestant, then (s)he shouldn't win, period.

Despite what you may believe, there is a minimum level of attention that the contestant must give to the host - this one failed to do so.

And a last note -- how can you say you're not somebody completely discordant when all you do is disagree?

From Showcase cues being used as prize cues and vice-versa, the good old rules of cues are desperately needed back.

I wonder:  what musical cue placement rules seem most imperative from an aurally aesthetic perspective?  I ask because, at least back in the day when there were different, perhaps even fewer, musical cues, there certainly appears (or sounds) to be placement variety, especially if you watch older clips such as the recently-posted clip involving a young lady playing Hurdles during a 1970s episode for a Caribbean cruise.

Push: $81K guessed on a boat normally seen in the showcases??!!!  8-O :-o Un-believable.

10 Chances: Boy, did Steven stumble!!

Switch?: Very nice.

PickPair: Good.

Dice: DEATH TO GREEN SCREEN PILLARS!!!! Congratulations, Cody!!  :-)

CoG: So obvious.

Showcases: That trip to Paris had to been filled with a boatload of Grecoids!!! That Chevy Equinox had to been at least around $23-$25K at least.

A 3-star show.

Push Over: Who the hell would want to pay $81,000 on a sailboat???

10 Chances: Remember the zero rule, folks, and don't do what Steven did (twice).

Switch?: Good call.

Pick-a-Pair: Beautiful win there.

Dice Game: Yay on the win, but Boo to the pillars behind the car.

Coming or Going: Only one way to go there, and she went the right way.

Showcases: Third time in a row that somebody wins because their opponent went over.

Miscellaneous: The jury is still out on Amanda...Guess I'll have to wait until the last show of the week to pass out my judgement. And doesn't Tamiko look a lot like the now-departed (and sadly so) Phire? Whenever I see Tamiko, I'm always forcing myself not to call her Phire, much like Stan mixes up the names of Vanessa and Tiffany (who's also in the same boat as Phire) in his book.

5-digit Push Over:  $81,767 for a West Wight Potter 19' Sailboat!?!? ???  What was Cassandra thinking!? ???
Ten Chances:  Too bad Steven didn't win the Jeep! :-(  I was kinda surprised that the Jeep was over$20,000. :-o
Switch?:  Good job! :-)
Pick A Pair:  Nice! :-)
Dice Game:  Well played! :-)  I thought the first die was either going to get stuck on the side of the table or end up on the floor!
Coming Or Going:  Nice job! :-)  I would've been shocked if $7,995 would've been wrong!
Showcases:  That home cinema system sure looked neat! :-)  Too bad it wasn't won! :-(

Good show overall, IMHO. :-)

How much are they going to have to shell out for Drew singing "Happy Birthday To You" during the 1st PG? I was very surprised that they did not edit that out to save tens of thousands of dollars.

Some interesting asides on Cassandra, during the commercial we learned that she's a "dancer at a gentleman's club" in Las Vegas.  Drew was mocking her mercilessly through the first commercial break.   In the end when we were all doing the paperwork she told me she had thought there were only 4 digits in the price of the boat and thought it was 8K  it was until after that she realized there were 5 digits in the price..

Feel free to message me if you have any questions  :-D

Was this what Drew was doubled-over laughing about when Bonnie was called down?  Please, I must know!

I'm pretty sure this was when one of the production staff tripped on the camera line as the camera was moving to get into position for the IUFB behind door 3.  Didn't have anything to do with Bonnie :)

Considering how much Drew talks about things that are irrelevant and things that he thinks are funny, I'm quite surprised he never mentioned this.
Roger Dobkowitz's Seven Commandments of The Price Is Right:
1. Tape and edit the show as if it were live.
2. Never tell the contestant what to do.
3. Size matters. (The bigger the prize, the better the prize and the bigger the reaction.)
4. All prizes are good.
5. Never do anything on the show that would embarrass a parent with a kid watching.
6. Never put on a prize that would make the show look cheap.
7. It’s the game, stupid! (It’s about the game.)

I'm not going to do a whole fair use analysis (I think I'll save that for the Copyright seminar I'm taking this semester in which I have to write a 50 page law-review & competition quality paper), but considering the portion of the song he used was minimal, I'm going to say none... but even that depends on what district the suit's brought in. :-P

And don't even get me started on if the song is even eligible for copyright protection... Professor Robert Brauneis of GWU Law has an excellent paper on the topic.

Apparently some company does own the rights to the tune of Happy Birthday, and had Drew sung it, someone woulda had to cough up some money.. Which I believe only amounts to a couple hour dollars. Of course, someone actually has to point out to this company that Drew actually sung it, first...

Did he sing the entire song? I haven't re-watched the episode (haven't had a reason to), but I thought he only sung the first couple of bars of the song, which could qualify as a fair use, or would've been a de minimis use (and depending on the circuit the suit is brought in, is a defense to copyright infringement - a lot of this law conflicts based on the federal circuit you're in).

But like I said, I don't want to apply the fair use analysis... and a good number of copyright law scholars believe that the song doesn't qualify for copyright protection for a number of reasons, which I'm sure you don't want to hear about.
