Title: Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego
Post by: rn on April 18, 2021, 11:10:30 AM
Apparently New Zealand had its own version of the game show.  What bugs me is the fact that their version of Rockapella did not sing the chorus “She goes from Nashville to Norway...” themselves.

Interesting that it's almost a carbon copy of the US version but with a different host and Chief.

I know about the Italian, French Canadian, Castillan Spanish and German versions.  What I like about their versions of Rockapella was that each one of them featured a woman.

I actually find the Italian version more similar to the PBS original, with its own back room for various sketches as well as the option to pick "Where do you wanna go?" if you beat the map round. The only thing that was different was that the order towards capturing the henchman didn't necessarily have to be loot/warrant/crook like on most other adaptions. If the show got picked up for a sixth season instead of changing itself to "Where In Time?", I'd wish they'd do a special around the world episode/week showcasing the various international versions where chiefs could help the Gumshoes with catching Carmen, but I'd make that a primetime special due to its higher profile.

Still, Africa and "Australasia" are certainly no easy feat to accomplish, despite New Zealand being in the same region that its map round would be played for. Even adults would struggle due to the tiny size of all those islands.

Hard to believe the original show turns 30 in September.  Perhaps if circumstances allow, we'll see a reunion of surviving cast and creative members later this year.

It was actually from that video that I found out that NZ had its own version of the series.

I already knew that there was a French-Canadian version of both World and Time because I've seen a few episodes of each

One of the best things about the French Canadian version of "World" is that the end theme is performed ENTIRELY by "Les Voxapellas" and did not have any lip syncing.

Widemir Noumil was the only cast member from the French-Canadian version of World to cross over to the French-Canadian version of Time.  On the latter, he was the French version of Sir Vile and was also part of the Engine Crew
