Title: tpiradam's Price is Right - REWIND EDITION
Post by: tpiradam on September 06, 2020, 01:23:04 PM
Hello all! It is time for another edition of tpiradam's Price is Right! Celebrating just over one year since being reborn! To celebrate I have decided to follow in the footsteps of other great HYO hosts on this site and do a flashback style episode. Buckle up those seatbelts because this time capsule is taking a ride all the way back to...

Season 16

But with a twist! Instead of using an old lineup with modern prizes, I'm using an old lineup with prizes from that era. Be prepared to adjust for inflation as every prize offered on this show will come straight out of 1987/1988. To become eligible to participate all you need to do is respond saying you're interested. To be considered for a spot in contestant's row what I'd like to hear is simple: Tell me your favourite memory from that time period. Whether it's a favourite toy or song or something you saw on TPIR, the most well thought-out answers will be selected as contestants. If you, like me, were not born yet at that period or you don't remember that far back no worries! Just tell me something about that time period that you would've loved to have experienced. Sign ups will be open until the completion of Rockyboy's show. If his show ends before Wednesday night sign ups will close then!

I'd love to go back to Showbiz Pizza, back in it's heyday! Classic arcade games a-plenty!

Hmm...I'd want to experience the technology of the era, especially video games and software for PCs. Just to see how they began and how they evolved to what we have today.

I have neglected to point out that due to the prizes being from 1987/1988 that the prices of those prizes are from that era as well as opposed to adjusted to 2020 prices.

I'm in!

My favorite memory of 1987/1988 is well... my birth. So since I was just born, I don't really really have personal memories from those years.

I was born during the next season. I’ll pick Wheel of Fortune going to all cash in the nighttime version. It’s served the show quite well after they dropped shopping.

I'm in! I'll go for August 8, 1988 (8/8/88). A number of things happened that day:

I would love to join.

Wasn't born yet and I know it's a bit out in left field, but the crazy story behind possibly the first computer virus ever in 1987 would probably get my vote.

I'd explain it, but I think this (https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ) explains it better than I can.

While we do have enough signed up I am extending the deadline to tomorrow night at least so that rockyboy's show can finish before I start mine.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for this one!

I wasn't born yet either, but something from the 1987-1988 time period I would love to have experienced are my two favorite game shows, The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. In my opinion, both shows hit a creative peak of sorts during this season.

As a whole, 1986-1993 is probably my favorite period for Price is Right... and Season 16 may be the best one from that period. Possibly Bob's best hosting style ever (not as talkative as in the 70s, but still very interactive with contestants), and definitely Rod Roddy at his best. I love how early on during his TPIR tenure, he announced most of the IUFBs with his low, radio-type voice, but brought the excitement in at full force elsewhere.

As for Wheel, Season 5 of the nighttime show brought on the play for cash element, and it's my favorite season of Wheel in the 80s. Everything good about the show was present during this season... great contestants, great prizes, great gameplay, and Vanna looked her best. Pat started to loosen up a bit with his hosting style, and was obviously happy shopping was gone. Although his best years ever were probably 1995-1998, which also may be the highest peak of production for the show overall.

And now, here's tpiradam with our Showcase Showdown!

Here we are at the big wheel. With me I have three winners! All three of these contestant's have won their pricing game. tpir04 our freshest winner taking home a bunk bed and daybed he won playing One Right Price, William is off to Scotland with $975 in tow thanks to the Check Game and Plinkoman will be driving out of the studio in a new car he won playing Pathfinder. Each of you has a chance to win more with the big wheel. The one of you who is closest to 1.00 without going over will be in the Showcase at the end of the show. You may take a second spin if you're first spin is too low for your liking or your score is lower than the previous spinners score. But be careful, if you go over 1.00 you're out. If you get 1.00 in one spin or a combination of two spins we will reward you with $1,000 and a bonus spin. In your bonus spin if it lands on the .05 or .15, this green section you will receive an extra $5,000. BUT if you get that 1.00 again in your bonus spin you will win $10,000! tpir04, you're up first!

For all spinners: Give me two numbers between 1 and 20 for your spins as well as the highest number you'd stay on. They can be the same number for both spins if you'd like as I have randomized the spins for each person for each spin differently.

Here goes our first spin of the show. That spin will definitely get all the way around but it won't get to that dollar again. Let's see what he gets...

95

95 cents! A good score! And he has decided to stay on that 95. William, he's tough but he can be beaten...

William's turn to give it a go. There goes the dollar and oof there goes the 95 and I don't think it has enough strength to come around again...

45

.45. He must spin again. Looking for that 50 or 55. Here comes that 55 but it looks like it's a tad too fast...

30

.30 and .45 is .75 and that's not enough. Thank you William! Enjoy Scotland! Plinkoman is up. Trying to see if he can add to his winnings with the big wheel. There's the .95 for the tie again but too fast...

85

.85. Normally a good score but not this time so he's spinning again. .15 or .10 will do it and look out here's that dime!...

65

*MRRRRRRRRP*

Ouch so close it is just resting on that peg! Thank you Plinkoman! Have fun with that new car! tpir04 you will be in our Showcase at the end of the show. More Price is Right coming up after this!...

When I say go that $150 rangefinder will move up the Range Game board. When you believe the rangefinder has entered the range in which you believe is the price of that dining room you'll hit that red button and when the price lights up in that green section if its within the range in which you have stopped, you will be dining in that dining room tonight. Now be careful when you push that button because we cannot start the Range Game again for another 37hrs. Start that rangefinder up if you will please...

Yes there is! We take the four from the board, add it to the 5 and we get 9. 9 from 19 leaves 10. Use that information any way you will, you have two numbers left and one mistake you can safely make still.

.65. And he's spinning again! The audience doesn't sound too sure of that idea but it just might maybe work out for him...

25

.25. Spin again. Looking for anywhere between .65 and .75 to have a shot here. Can you believe this?

25

.25 again! Three in a row. Unfortunately .50 isn't enough to beat LiteBulb88. Thank you numbers! It's your turn PatrickRox80!

A dime. Spin again. Looking for anywhere between .80 and .90. Uh oh look out here comes that 90 but is it too fast?!...

5

My one major worry with doing this instead of actually scouting out catalogues and car ads from the time was that it could be very easy to pull up an episode or recap from 1988 and snag every $100 bonus and bid on the nose on the Showcase so thank you everyone for not doing so :) I have another rewind episode planned I'm not sure if I have any others in between at the moment. Again big thank you to everyone who participated and signed up for making this a big success!
