Here we go again

Will there be Breast Cancer next Friday?
There will definitely be a primetime playing just before 11pm eastern next Thursday, assuming there are SCs!

-
Cephas now with a really hot start. Still early of course.

Wait what? How am I second in cash? I’ve been playing like crap.
-
^ I've never seen a more apt CSS comment than that one, tbh. :P
-
And that’s without any silly Plinko Doubler which has zero to do with pricing showcases. That really needs to be put to bed tbh. Imo.

If you're treating CSS as a hardcore competitive game, then you should only care about the playoffs. The regular season is just filler to make sure that you've done enough to qualify and maybe to grab a couple extra points, which has never changed the victor in the modern cash era.
Even then, the game doesn't even award players who price showcases well: the game awards those who stumble >$251 into a showcase twice as many points, and punishes people for going over. CSS punishes you for getting on the wrong side of close, and punishes you if you magically get into that range, but over on the other. Blowing 12 DSWs and WSDing 16 times will make you realize that.
The only way to make the game more closely resemble pricing skill would be to remove that penalty for overs, and drastically decrease the bonuses for getting within DSW/Exacta range. But at that point, are you really playing along with the show?
And when you're dealing with a bunch of trips that only pop up in the showcases, a random $5,400 coffee machine, or a 12-day trip of China that's $6,000 that's not a skill of pricing: that's a game of luck, hoping the prizes are about the same price as the previous ones in the same geographical area/field.
So, have fun however you want to play it. Make your own scoring system if you want; Wayo's very clearly given out everyone's bid if you want to recalculate factoring out Plinko/Fridays/Perfect Shows. I don't care enough to do so.

Sometimes I will never understand the complexity of the rankings. I had an $84 WSD on Wednesday, and yet I move up two spots to 13. This game can work in strange ways.

Think of it this way. Take the doubled points you received today (Friday), divide by two to get your non-doubled score, and then add the other half of your doubled points to the day you went over. It’s basically like it never happened, and thus your points average still increased.
Or at least that’s what I do to make myself feel better some weeks. 😝

I had a chance to score well above 1000 points today and that led me to think about something. CSS players have an advantage over the stage player as it is always possible that between the tape date and the airdate of a particular episode, an important ARP for any given prize in the showcases could be revealed in an earlier episode within the timeframe. Then it becomes a matter of remembering what we have seen before. Of course, that's not always perfect as sometimes the first time we see a prize is in the showcases and trips can vary wildly in price.

I suppose that is offset for those actually on the show by the fact that they can have one-three other people (at least this year) who can give them hints. One could (theoretically) have a group of people with good memories that just choose to memorize certain items (one does cars, one does trips etc.) as an advantage that a solo person playing on here wouldn't have.
Not that either probably makes a huge difference in the overall scheme of things :)

Part of me not feeling well most of the time since October is being much more choosy in my playings. But almost 3rd in points, that's amazing to me.
-
Now actually 2nd in points. I don't play for points, but I guess I do now, eh?
The cash race is also getting fun, multiple people on the cusp of a million.
-
Two over a mil now, two on the cusp in the four man cash race.

I enter da million club again, 4th this season to enter it and still 4th.
As far as playoff schedule, with the calendars not updating it is tough but I'd expect starting on Memorial Day or the week after again, I guess I'll have to look at show aired count at that point if no calendar update by then...
-
I've been alerted via Kev that with the season starting a week earlier back in September, it's probably most prudent to start the playoffs the week before Memorial Day, based on shows aired so far (139 as of today). So that is the tentative date for now.

One more week until a playoff leaderboard post!
-
No major changes at the bell for playoff bonus points. I almost overtook FJB on cash, but I respect all the heavyweights here with six millionaires this season so far.

I will be ending this CSS season on June 14 (two more shows after the playoffs end) with a double values playing. It's been confirmed from multiple TV listings that reruns will start on the 15th. There will be three summer first runs to do scrimmages on, including two by July 4, but I won't wait that long to end the CSS season, as two one-show weeks would be odd.
Meanwhile... I'm in 1st on points!?!

My last post in this thread as well, I'll do another all-in-one-post on the 14th.
