Title: "Reactive Budget" - gamesurf's Price is Right
Post by: gamesurf on June 22, 2021, 01:39:04 AM
"We must consult our means rather than our wishes." -George Washington

Episode number 4 in gamesurf's Price is Right is here! And the theme is going to be inspired by by MSTieScott's "Reactive Budget" (http://www.golden-road.net/index.php/topic,1260.0.html) special from loooong ago.

The format is the traditional format we all know and love. Six IUFBs, six pricing games, two showcase showdowns, etc. The catch is that the higher-ups have imposed a fixed budget for this show, a figure known only to me and CU.  Rest assured, it is still my mission to give away as much as possible... without going overbudget, of course.

The prize warehouse is stocked with 60-70 prizes of various amounts; all prizes will come from this predetermined list. All six pricing games are finalized, as well as the setups for the first two pricing games. But after that, the prizes and setups are subject to change depending on the shape the budget is in. So if the players in the first half manage to win a lot, that's bad news for the players in the second half...

If you'd like to play, simply post in this thread and answer an optional audition question. Most entertaining answers will be given preference for the First Four.

The real-life Price is Right is about to celebrate its 50th year on the air; the golden anniversary of TPIR, and you're producing it! Unfortunately, due to belt-tightening at CBS, you don't get a bigger budget, but at least the CBS execs have generously agreed to give you one five-gallon bucket of gold-leaf paint to redecorate any setpieces/props/prizes you wish. How do you use it to make the show feel special?

Sign-ups will close at 11:59 PM EST on Sunday, June 27. Good luck!

I'll keep the paint bucket backstage until the end of the Showcase round, and then give the bucket to the winning contestant and tell them to "redecorate" the losing contestant by dumping/splashing all but a little bit of the paint from the bucket onto the losing contestant and then give the bucket back to me afterwards; then when the CBS execs come on stage and reprimand me for all that, I'll tell them that A) they didn't say I was the one who had to do the redecorating, and B) they didn't say it had to be done before the show, and when they tell me that contestants "aren't setpieces/props/prizes", I'll tell them that anything and everything that is on the set is a setpiece/part of the set, including people, and then using the little bit of paint that the winning contestant so kindly saved for me, "redecorate" the CBS execs since the "including people" part of what I told them includes them as well, and finally sprint out of there while yelling to them "Happy   G o l d e n   Anniversary, suckers!"

...Man, I'm in, but this is a hard prompt. I guess to celebrate the game's 50th anniversary, I'll give fans a real reason to complain that Double Prices is too much of an eyesore.

If I were serious, I throw the paint in the trash and just make LMAD's Gold Rush a permanent game in active rotation and make a 9 and 0 box, but come on.

I'm in and I would use the paint bucket to paint all of Golden Road's podiums Gold because of it being the "Golden" Anniversary.

I'm in. I would say to have the the dollar sign on the logo of the Price is Right to be painted gold to remember the 50th year on the air.

I suppose it's only fair that I be on the receiving end of this. So I'm in.

My one regret with the original "Reactive Budget" was that I didn't think to go to a ridiculous, humorous extreme once everybody started winning. And because I expect everybody to start winning on this episode, I'd better get a good response in now so I avoid the second-half fallout. So what would I do with five gallons of gold-leaf paint?

I'm a simple man who prefers an understated elegance. And I think that turning the logo gold would convey the significance of the milestone without being ostentatious. THE, IS, and RIGHT all stay white. PRICE and the dollar sign get a coat of the shiny gold-leaf paint. Then I'll pour some of the paint into two other containers and add a different amount of black to each in order to darken the color and dull the shine. Those shades replace the orange and red in the logo. Apply to all of the logos in the studio (on the doors, above the audience, on the giant price tag, on the back of the first One Bid envelope, accidentally paint over the logo on the giant monitor in the back, etc.).

That's classy, and it should result in a decent amount of gold-leaf paint left over. Which means that I'm going full Goldfinger on one of the models! Doesn't matter which one -- I'll take a volunteer. And if no one volunteers, then I'm drawing somebody's name out of a hat!

If I'm eligible, I will take the sixth sign-up spot. As for your rhetorical question, I would use the gold paint to dabble on the lights and also on the Price is Right logo, and if I had any left, I would put the rest of the paint over the stage to create an old callback to the original path of the Golden Road for Drew (or any host for that matter) to walk onstage on.

I'm always up for a challenge.

I would start with the big wheel. Perhaps one of the show's most famous props and of course it gives away money so why not paint it gold because gold=money no? Then whatever is left over, gold audience curtains, gold big doors, gold turntable, gold showcase podium and gold contestant's row. If I still have more left over because I have no idea how much five gallons is I'll paint slip covers for the audience seats and then take an uber to Hollywood Blvd and touch up some stars on the walk of fame.

I am most definitely in. I'd put the gold leaf paint on Plinko! for two reasons:

1. The board would look very nice.
2. Hopefully some specks would get stuck in the board leading to S&P declaring the board is unfair, rendering the game permanently unplayable.

Win win!

I'm in!

As for the gold paint-- paint Check Game's set completely gold, since it's the 50th pricing game.

I'll play!

I would paint the mountain climber gold.

Because why not?

I want in as well. I will probably paint Door for and the podiums with a gold border and pain the most iconic prop on TPIR (the microphone!). (You can only do so much with five gallons worth of paint.)
Title: Re: "Reactive Budget" - gamesurf's Price is Right
Post by: 123123123 on June 24, 2021, 09:52:10 AM
Of course I'll join! Now what to do with this paint? 5 gallons isn't too much, so I'll have to be smart. In no particular order, I'd probably...

- paint the 50 cent spot on the wheel for  the commemorative occasion

- paint the little pedestal that falls from the rafters in front of Contestants' Row because I always thought it was already gold and don't want mistaken memories.

- touch up the title in Now or Then so it looks nice for its final playing, then burn it for warmth afterwards

-make Safe Crackers more realistic by painting some gold bars on the backdrop that will somehow look more like glittery turds

And finally use the rest in a showcase where someone inevitable gets covered in the gold stuff, Nickelodeon slime cannon style.

All right, signups are CLOSED! As customary, everybody who signs up gets a name tag just for playing...

(Abbreviations sometimes have to be made to get your name to fit; if you'd like your name tag to read something else, just let me know.)

Well, you've been waiting long enough, see you in a moment. Before we begin, may I introduce to you... the one... the only... AnnouncerTron 3000!

HELLO, EVERYBODY! HOW WE DOING?

*audience screams*

READY TO WIN SOME PRIZES?

*audience screams*

Now, I know you came here to win some great stuff...

a leaf blower...

an amazing trip...

or how about a NEW CAR!?!?

We have a whole warehouse full of prizes to offer you today, and I can't wait to call some of you to COME ON DOWN and win them!

If you hear your name, you jump on up! And I will butcher your name, because they don't tell me how to pronounce them beforehand and I'm a robotic text-to-speech program, so I apologize in advance!

If you come on stage, you might get confused on where to go. That's all right and perfectly natural, just stay with the host so you'll be in position for whatever game you play. If you win, you might get the urge to go run to your prize and celebrate, and we encourage that! But what if you don't win? Or what if you win something you can't hug, like a trip? Well, I need you to remember these four words. STAY WITH THE HOST. Can you repeat that for me?

"STAY WITH THE HOST!"

Very good! Now, you might notice this gentleman in the corner with the clipboard with the glasses. He's Dwayne, our guest visiting today from the accounting department at CBS. If you see him furiously scribbling notes on a clipboard during the show, don't be alarmed! That just means he's keeping track of all the wonderful prizes you'll win! Just try not to pay too much attention to him...

As for the rest of you, your job is to help those who are on-stage to win those prizes by helping them out as much as possible! Help them out as much as you can!

Okay, that's it. You know about the prizes, you know where to go and what to do, you know about Dwayne... I think we're ready! The crew is ready, the cameras are rolling, the prizes are loaded! You're here! You're hyped!

LET'S START THIS SHOW!

*audience screams*

Scream for me on the count of five...

four...

three...

two...

one...

And TPIRfan#9821, that is YOUR dishwasher!

Congratulations, #9821! Won't you come up on stage with me to the big doors? We'd like for you to do some more winning.

Now, #9821, you've placed the first bid of the show, and you've won the first price of the show, and I would LOOOOVE for you to win the first pricing game of the show. And what do we have for him, AnnouncerTron?

*cue Amen, Brother Herbert* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR-QHT90TkA)

It's a new computer and an off-road ATV!

Access golden-road.net in style with this 27" iMac computer! Featuring a 512GB SSD, 16GB of RAM and a 10 gigabit Ethernet port, this computer is perfect for creating Pinterest albums, basic word processing, and scrolling through Twitter! But we've also included a Magic Trackpad 2, in case you'd like to do any of that artsy-fartsy stuff a Mac can do.

And, an off-road ATV! The 2021 KYMCO Mongoose comes equipped with a fully automatic four-stroke 270cc engine, rated for riders perfect 14 and up. The perfect getaway vehicle for when you need to evade the authorities in the desert. Back to you, gamesurf!

Thanks, AnnouncerTron! And #9821, you can win both the computer and the ATV if you're able to Do the Math! And not only will you win both prizes, you'll also win some cash as well! Look at that monitor in between those two prizes, how much cash are we offering #9821 today?

*DING!*

$1,300! Now, #9821, the prizes and the cash, if read left to right, form a mathematical equation. We know that the computer belongs on the left, we know that the ATV belongs to the right of the equals sign, and we know that the cash belongs in the middle. We just need to know what sign belongs in between the computer and the cash. A plus sign, or a minus sign?

Either the price of the computer PLUS $1,300 equals the price of the ATV, or, the price of the computer MINUS $1,300 equals the price of the ATV. All you need to do to win is tell us which symbol--plus or minus--belongs in the equation, and you'll win the cash and both prizes!

I feel like all my previous experience is telling me it should be plus, so that's what I'll suggest. But with Apple products, no price is out of the question.
Title: Re: "Reactive Budget" - gamesurf's Price is Right
Post by: MSTieScott on June 28, 2021, 06:17:08 PM
Thank goodness I don't have to play this awful pricing game!

I'm not positive, but that looks like a small ATV to me. And the iMac has a solid state drive, so my instinct would be to say minus. But again, I'm only somewhat confident about that.

(And the cash amount is a nice, round number -- the way it should be!)
Title: Re: "Reactive Budget" - gamesurf's Price is Right
Post by: TPIRfan#9821 on June 28, 2021, 07:36:13 PM
Um... S&P? Literally both of those prizes showed up in the episode that aired today, lol?

No matter. The show prices the base iMac at $2,299, and the Mongoose at $4,099. I get that it's Apple and you added extra options (mainly doubled the ram, the magic trackpad, and I think the base has only a single gigabit ethernet port), and I think the Mongoose website puts it at a little cheaper, but I'm just going to add my way to victory, and just do my part in taking away from the budget.

Anyways, I'm just going to walk toward my prizes now.

*mounts onto ATV and pantomimes my worst cowboy impression, letting out a terrible YEE-HAW!*

You seem to be very familiar with this model of computer. Let's find out if you're right! First off, what is the price of the computer?

$2,649. Now, you seem pretty sure about that ATV, too. If that ATV is $3,949, you're a winner. Does #9821 have it?

*Dwayne, with a pained look on his face, scribbles furiously on his clipboard*

Will our next winner get the answer straight from the show that aired today? Let's find out! AnnouncerTron, what's the next name on your list?

How about LiteBulb88? COME ON DOWN! You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!

$1,799, and that means Numbers is our winner!

Numbers, won't you follow me up on stage? Now, you've already won one wheel that you can use for transportation. Surely you don't have need for any more? Well, I don't know if we could interest you in this next prize... What do we have for him, AnnouncerTron?

Oh, I don't know, how about...

A NEW CAR!!!

*cue Bean Stalker* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dM5rjOUuUPk)

The 2021 Nissan Sentra S! Comes with standard equipment plus 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine, automatic transmission, four wheel drive, all-season floor mats, stem caps, and steel license plate frame! A terrific prize worth $19,637!

And Numbers, you can win that beautiful automobile playing Let 'Em Roll!

Now, in that bucket we have five dice. Each die has three faces with that car symbol on it. And each die also has one face each with $500 cash, $1,000 cash, and $1,500 cash. Numbers, in a few brief moments, I'll have you roll all five dice, and if you can manage to roll five car symbols, you will be driving home in that car!

I'll give you one roll of the dice just for coming up on stage, but you can win up to two more rolls if you know a little something about these products over here.

First, this hand soap! Don't let your eyes deceive you! Add some decoration zest to your kitchen with this custom-made hand soap which comes in the shape, but not the flavor, of bacon and eggs.

Next, Pain Bloc 24 pain pen, target treatment for pain relief! Ideal for hands, wrists, and other small joints. Pain Bloc 24, use as directed!

And finally, feel like a kid in a caramel shoppe again with this 5 oz. bag of Werther's Original Caramels! Made with real butter and fresh cream for a taste that always makes you feel like someone very special. It's more than sweet, a little piece of bliss, Werther's Original! Back to you, gamesurf!

And if I were interested in purchasing hand soap in the shape of bacon and eggs, how much would that cost me?

*DING!*

$8.00! Now, Numbers, in order to earn an additional roll of the dice, you tell me, is the pain pen higher or lower than $8.00?

Soap that looks like food is one of those ideas that seems like it really shouldn't exist. I'll say that the pain relief is more expensive than the tasty looking soap.

Also, I know you didn't specifically ask but if the pain relief is $9+, I'll say the candy is lower. Actually scratch that, even if my first decision is somehow wrong, I'll say the candy is lower.

He says the pain pen is more expensive than the soap, and he is...

*DING!*

...right, and that gives him two rolls! Now, Numbers, I'll give you another roll if you can--oh, he wants lower! I don't even have to ask, he knows the candy is less expensive, and he is...

...right again! Numbers has three rolls in tow! He has the best chance possible chance of winning a car, and here he goes heading up those stairs. Take the whole bucket, dump its contents down the ramp, and Let 'Em Roll!

[Numbers, before the show we randomly assigned each die face to a letter A, B, C, D, E, or F. Give me five letters A-F, repeats allowed.]

He's not quitting! He's going for the car! All we need are two more car symbols. Audience, we need your energy! We want a car! We want a car! Send your good vibes!

For all the marbles, Numbers, get two more car symbols! Roll those dice!

Well, the bad news is, no car. The good news? You're leaving here $1,500 richer. And do I detect a sigh of relief from those in Contestant's Row?

We'll be back with more Price is Right following this announcement!

*Dwayne pulls his handkerchief out of his pocket and wipes the sweat from his forehead, his visibly pained expression relaxing*

AnnouncerTron, as I was saying before the break those three in Contestant's Row looked to be quite happy when 123³ won that $1,500. How nice it is to see our contestants are willing cheer on each other, no matter what they win!

Who do you have in the audience that can match that comradery? Do you know of anyone?

Sure do! geniusinmath, COME ON DOWN! You are the next contestant on The Price is Right!

geniusinmath, welcome to Contestant's Row! Welcome to the row of brotherly love! We've got another prize for you to bid on, and here it is!

It's a cutting-edge pellet grill!

The Traeger Timberline 850! Controllable via Wi-Fi, this pellet grill smokes food slowly but burns hot enough to sear food quickly, even in the dead of winter, and featuring three racks and enough space to grill nine chickens at a time! Prove to your neighbors that you're serious about your BBQ and your freezer full of meat wasn't just a vanity purchase!

And genius, at the yellow podium, the first bid goes to you!

*DING!*

Bids are in, LiteBulb has his customary $970, I see.

Now, the Actual Retail--

*CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG!*

Oh!

Oh!

What have we here? One of you has bid exactly right!

And that person will receive a cool $500 bonus for their trouble!

Could it be LiteBulb's $970? Could it be Scott's hesitant $1,499? The last IUFB was $1,799, could we get an $1,800 one immediately following it?

Well, I'll tell you now. The $500 bonus and the grill go to the player who bid...

And geniusinmath wastes no time getting out of Contestant's Row!

Welcome, genius! As promised, here are five crisp, clean, $100 bills! Well done on that bid! Let me see your name tag--you say you're a genius in math? Well, I have bad news and I have good news. The bad news is that we've already played Do the Math today, so unfortunately you won't be playing that.

The good news is that you're going to become the first-ever player to play a brand new game! And you just might prove to be a genius in this game, too! And if you are able to do that, you'll win THIS!

It's a trip to Tokyo!

You and a guest will fly round-trip, coach, on Japan Airlines from Los Angeles to Tokyo, where you'll enjoy a 6-night stay at the Tokyo Edition. Enjoy the sights of the luxurious Toronamon district, within walking distance of the THK National Museum of Broadcasting as well as the Japan Sake and Shochu Information Center. We've also included a guided day trip to Mt. Fuji, as well as a personal taxi tour of the city!

And geniusinmath, you can win that trip to Tokyo by playing Around The World!

Now, as you can see here, we currently have a price of $3,795 on that trip to Tokyo. That price is WRONG. In order to correct it, you will have to send some numbers AROUND THE WORLD!

For example, you might decide to send the 5 around the world...

...and form a price of $5,379 for the trip.

Or, you could send the 9 around the world with it...

...forming a price of $9,357.

Finally, you might decide to send the 7 around the world with the other two...

...and that would put the price at $7,953.

If you can set the price correctly, you'll win the trip! Just make sure you DON'T leave it at $3,795.

Special thanks to mbetush for the original game concept. (http://www.golden-road.net/index.php/topic,14531.msg234440.html#msg234440)

*peanut gallery*

Watching the bottom graphic several times, for some reason, I see the background flash blue a couple times at $9,537. Even if that sounds a bit pricey, I'd pick that just because it would be hilarious if Dwayne has to deal with losing a $9.5k trip because the stagehand screwed up.

Genius, after some deliberation, says $7,953 is the price of the trip.

Now, take a look at what's in that door. ModelBot 40000 has the price of the trip in the trunk. If the price is $7,953, you're on your way to Tokyo! Come on, ModelBot, show us something good!

*BUZZ!* bom bom bom bom... WOOOOOOOOO

No, I'm sorry. #9821 was right after all. But geniusinmath, you have made history regardless by being the first-ever player of Around The World, and that's something they can never take away from you. And you have a grill and $500 to tide you over, and you'll be spinning the Big Wheel after this announcement!

*Dwayne, leisurely writing on his clipboard, relaxes a bit more as his smile grows a bit wider*

-----

I stand here with geniusinmath, with 123123123, and with TPIRfan#9821!

Each of them will take one or maybe two spins of the wheel. Closes to $1.00 without going over advances to the showcases at the end of the show. And that's not all!

All three of you have already won SOME cash--123³ and #9821 in your pricing games, and geniusinmath with that perfect bid. But that's just a taste of what you can win here!  Should you get exactly $1.00 in one spin--or a combination of two spins--you will win an extra $1,000. And you'll get a bonus spin where you can win $10,000 or even $25,000!

*Dwayne clenches his teeth involuntarily at the thought of what an early $25,000 win would do to the showcases*

geniusinmath is our first spinner today! Give that wheel a spin!

-----

Spinning order:

geniusinmath
123123123
TPIRfan#9821

To save time, everybody pick two numbers from 1-20, along with the smallest number you would be willing to stop at assuming you are in the lead.

genius winds up with a spin, and lets it go!

*wheel clears the first rotation easily and keeps going into the second*

Will it get around to a dollar again? Not quite, but you just might get a 90...

Nope, you have a quarter. I assume you'll spin again, right?

*genius nods head yes, and gives a slightly bigger spin*

And around it's coming, looking for a 75. You're too too fast for the 70... uh oh! Not this! Not now!

genius, I'm sorry things didn't work out. Enjoy your grill!

123123123 with a big spin, look at it go!

*wheel spins around at least four times*

And it looks like you're going to come to a stop... at... 20 cents.

Do you want to spin again? You do? I can't say I blame you. And here 123123123 goes, another big spin...

*wheel spins around another four times*

Now if he goes over, TPIRfan#9821, you are automatically in the showcase.

And there goes the 80, and it's not going to come around again. You could have the 50... but will it stop-- uh oh! No! Get off of that!

*MRRP!*

Over by a nickel, I'm afraid. Thanks for playing, 123123123!

TPIRfan#9821, congratulations! You're our winner by default, but I'll give you one spin to try to get that dollar!

*#9821 winds up and spins the wheel*

TPIRfan#9821 is giving the wheel a spin... looking for that dollar.

Now, you're on your way to the showcases by default, but let's see if you can win yourself some cash. While we're spinning anybody you'd like to say hi to?

*9821 starts to open his mouth to speak, but gamesurf pulls the microphone away once he notices the wheel*

There's that dollar coming around...

Is it going to make it?

Hey, you know, you just might have...

*DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING*

*Dig We Must* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulmDF4Kwcmg)

LOOK AT THAT! A dollar! That's a thousand dollars cash!

*Dwayne covers his face with his clipboard--they've given away cash in every act of the show so far! This cannot be good for the budget...*

And you're not done yet! You're going to take a crack at the big money!

*gamesurf resets the wheel to the nickel*

Once again, you get ONE spin. The $1,000 is yours to keep no matter what you land on, but try to aim for the big money section right here. Land on the 5 or the 15, and you'll take home an extra TEN thousand dollars. Land on the dollar a second time, and you'll be going to the showcases with an extra TWENTY-FIVE thousand dollars!

As you know, the wheel must go all the way around to win the cash. You don't get to spin again, so make it count!

*TPIRfan#9821 winds up with almost all the power he has, and lets the wheel rip*

He's given it a big spin now. Looking for $25,000...

There it goes, will it come around again? Wouldn't it be exciting?

*even from a distance, it's clear that the vein in Dwayne's head gets is throbbing*

You've still got some good speed, and it's got a chance. Might the wheel have good things in store for #9821?

*the wheel's momentum slowly starts to ebb past the 50*

Hey, you know, #9821, this is looking pretty good...

*a hush falls over the crowd as the wheel slows down past the 10, the 45, the 70...*

GO!

GO!

GO!

*the wheel slowly ticks past the 90 and starts to come to its final resting place*

*Dwayne is involuntarily leaning back, like a bowler trying to will a bowling ball towards a pin, as if there were anything in his power he could do to stop the wheel from landing on...*

TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!

*CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!*

*WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP!*

*Dig We Must* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulmDF4Kwcmg)

*#9821 is going bananas under the scoreboard*

*the crowd is on their feet, giving a standing ovation*

What a spin! What a spin! #9821, you did it! You're $25,000 richer! Sit tight, and we'll see you in the showcases!

AnnouncerTron, we just gave away $26,000 on the Big Wheel? How can we possibly top that?

I have a plan! But we need four contestants in the row to pull it off!

Oh no! We have LiteBulb88, GameShowFan9001, and MSTieScott. Do you have anybody who could round it off?

I sure do! Plinkoman, COME ON DOWN! You're the next contestant on the Price is Right!

Plinkoman, welcome to the row. That yellow spot is hot, we've gotten two bidders in a row from it to come up onstage, and you just might be the third.

All right, AnnouncerTron, what was your master plan to follow up a $26,000 win?

It was to give away... this new Lazy Susan!

Enchant your friends and baffle your enemies with this hypnotic Lazy Susan! Made with a bold, striking design on laminated wood, this 24" Lazy Susan is the perfect tool for distracting and dazzling your dinner guests across the table as you rotate the saltshaker around to them. Perfect for your high school film class making an homage to The Twilight Zone!

All right, contestants, look into the center of the Lazy Susan and repeat after me... "I will not overbid." "I will not overbid." "I will not overbid."

Now, when I snap my fingers, Plinkoman will place the first bid!

By the way, we should start guessing what the second half is going to look like. I think we'll be playing Lucky $even for a $19,111 car, Swap Meet for prizes worth $1,249, $1,250, $1,250, and $1,251, and Range Game for a prize worth $5,699 where the range goes $5,100 to $5,700. Discounted prediction game: Punch/Half with a harder SP setup (I know Dwayne tempted luck once and won, only to get screwed by the inevitability of the wheel, but a difficult setup could make the expected value of these games be around ~$3,000 each), a 3P with a setup somewhere around $1,800/$2,000/$2,300 for the prizes, and That's Too Much! for a Spark, which will be at like the seventh spot if both of the previous games are lost, and in the first spot if both games are won

This thing doesn't seem that expensive, like, at all, unless somehow that pattern and/or the 24-inch diameter is enough to push it past $500, so I'm gonna say $69

I did my part, but im betting on Let 'em Roll being the only luck based game in the lineup for maximum control. Really depends on how many inexpensive prizes gamesurf still has sitting backstage.

I could see Danger with 4 of the same prize and a truly evil Cover Up, then maybe offer some cheap Ashley furniture in Cliff if those according to plan. This lineup, and idea in general, really is ever evolving

$700, and Plinkoman wins! Yellow podium strikes for the third time in a row!

Plinkoman, welcome to the show. You certainly wasted no time coming up on stage, did you? I have not one, not two, but THREE prizes for you. What are they, AnnouncerTron?

A digital home gym, a jukebox, and an outdoor TV!

First, strength train in style with the Tempo Studio digital home gym!   Featuring a 42" touchscreen and 3D motion sensors to track your movements and offer corrections in real-time. Weights and barbells come included, stored neatly inside a hidden shelf, including a heart rate monitor, and a year's subscription to live personal-trainer-led classes!

Second, this full-sized jukebox reproduction connects via Bluetooth to any audio device, no USB connection necessary! Color-shifting LED lighting makes this the perfect addition to any entertainment center. Also includes an AM/FM radio & CD player.

And finally, from Sunbrite, this 43" Outdoor HDR TV will improve any outdoor patio! Fully weatherproof, and with a screen up to 50% brighter than indoor TVs, your dreams of watching the end of Blade Runner during an actual downpour can finally go fulfilled!

Plinkoman, this game is easy. In fact, it's Easy as 1-2-3! Tell me, how long has it been since you've played with blocks?

*Plinkoman begins to talk about the time he pushed several blocks and won a trip to China...*

It sounds like you're a seasoned expert! I'm sure you'll have no trouble with this game whatsoever! All you need to do is place these three blocks correctly.

Here is block #1; put it on the least expensive prize. Here is block #2; place it on the median priced prize. And here is block #3, place it on the most expensive prize! If you can place all three blocks correctly, you will be taking home all three prizes!

*peanut gallery*

Holy heck, does the budget equation factor in forfeited One Bids? $700 for a device that can barely rotate a large pizza?

Also, no exaggeration, there might be a double or even single digit difference between the jukebox and TV. The show had a jukebox similar to that worth $850 (it’s a glorified Bluetooth speaker, $40 boombox, and LED lights), and this somehow looks cheaper, and that TV is pretty small. I think the jukebox is the bigger bait here, so I’d suggest 3-1-2, but it’s really close

Same thing I was thinking. I remember that $850 jukebox from the show.

#3 for the home gym.
#2 for the TV.
#1 for the jukebox.

FWIW, I would have went go with 3-2-1. The outdoor TV feels almost like a double bluff, something that looks cheap that the host hopes you overthing for being more expensive, just for it to be cheap.

Of course, I could just be the overthinking fool in all of this
Title: Re: "Reactive Budget" - gamesurf's Price is Right

[Host note: I apologize for the brief pause; my real-life workload caught up with me and it took me a few days to sort it out. Game on!]

Plinkoman believes the #1 belongs on the jukebox, #2 belongs on the TV, and #3 belongs on the home gym. Some of the crowd likes it, some of the crowd is unsure, but Plinkoman, taking the blocks---and his fate---into his own hands, has placed the blocks thusly.

Now take a moment, Plinkoman, think... what could you do with those three prizes? You could have the ultimate party! You could begin by dancing to music in your jukebox, where you placed block #1. Some of the audience was unsure about that one. ModelBot 4000, what is the price of the jukebox?

*DING!*

$795! Surely that has to be the least expensive prize of the three, right?

Next, you placed block #2 on the outdoor TV. Again, some of the crowd was unsure about that choice. But it's just got to be more expensive than $795, right?. It's just got to! Is it?

*DING!*

Ooh, this is looking good, Plinkoman! If that digital home gym is more expensive than $1,499, you're a winner!

*Dwayne's lip curls slightly*

ModelBot 4000, show us the price!

It is! Congratulations, Plinkoman, you're a winner! Well done! Enjoy your prizes! You'll be able to watch TV while listening to your jukebox and working out--all outdoors if you please! I mean, only the TV is weatherproof, but you could plug the jukebox in indoors and leave the door open or something. Anyways, congratulations! We'll see you at the Big Wheel!

Stay tuned for more pricing games, and the fabulous showcases, on the second half of The Price is Right!

*Dwayne, with clipboard in hand, pulls out his pen and angrily begins drawing lines through some of the items on his list*

---

AnnouncerTron, I don't know what it is in the air, but that yellow spot is hot! Three contestants in a row have come onstage from it! Probably the most coveted seat in the whole studio right now--and who do you have to fill it?

I have just the person... tpiradam, COME ON DOWN! You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Smoothies and hummus will come out with ZERO chunks. Seeds become flour in seconds! And the 48 oz container ensures that you'll never thirst for freshly blended juice again! Think you've got it made? Think again. This blender will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Honestly, I don't know why we're even offering this as an Item Up For Bids... in my opinion, we're blowing our wad too soon.

Thank you, AnnouncerTron! And the first bid on that blender goes to, again, the yellow spot. tpiradam, what say ye?

Well, I guess we know that it's more than $88!

And the Actual Retail Price of that blender is...

GameShowFan9001, you're our winner!

Come up here on stage and follow me, GameShowFan! Right here, to the big doors!

Now, GameShowFan, we've offered blenders on the show today. We've offered trips. We've offered wonderful applicances and furniture. We've even offered a car. But GameShowFan, for YOU I have something very special. Open those doors and show GameShowFan what can be won!

It's a chance to win TE...

...uh... FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS IN CASH!

*Dwayne discreetly tosses a spray-paint can to a stagehand offstage*

Uh, are we gonna get that... *glances off stage* ...no? Er... right! Five thousand dollars! And you can win it playing Half Off!

The te-- er, five thousand is hidden inside one of these sixteen boxes. The other fifteen are empty. Pick out the box with the money in it, and it's yours!

Now, you might think that 1-in-16 odds at winning the big money aren't terribly great odds. But never fear--you'll have a chance to improve your chances of finding that cash exponentially! We'll eliminate some of those empty boxes for you if you know a little something about the prices of these prizes. And won't you tell us about them, AnnouncerTron?

This stylish lime green hand mixer offers five speeds and 250 watts of power!

Pop six quarts of popcorn in three minutes with this stovetop popcorn maker!

This adorable 17" wall clock can have names and dates personalized as a one-of-a-kind memento for the loving couple!

Charge your devices and hold your accessories in style with this QI wireless charging tray, made from Italian leather and featuring three wireless coils to reduce deadzones!

This portable translator and two-way voice interpreter can translate 82 languages and includes a global SIM card and a two-year data plan!

And finally, this 3-in-1 breakfast maker can toast, griddle, and brew coffee all at once!

GameShowFan, you'll notice that each of those items are arranged in pairs. You'll also notice that each item has a price tag on it. Each pair has one item whose price is correct. The other is priced at half off! I will ask you to identify the product in each pair that is half off; each time you successfully do that, we'll remove half of the boxes!

We have the hand mixer at $15 and the popcorn maker at $25; which is half off?
We have the clock at $48 and the charging station at $175; which is half off?
And we have the portable translator at $130 and the breakfast maker at $50; which is half off?

*peanut gallery*

Mixer, clock, breakfast maker. A popcorn popper is literally just a glorified pan, apparently we are so out of budget, we stole a custom clock from someone’s wedding (I think the trap here is it’s customizable, which might increase its value), the last one is more of a gut feeling that it literally just has to be a microphone connected to the internet, so you’re practically paying for only the data plan.

If we’re leaving things to chance, let’s at least guarantee we take $1,000 away from him (unless that bonus is halved also for some arbitrary reason)

Or maybe it was cheaper to obtain - perhaps no longer correct as the wedding may have had to be moved out of 2020? ;)

The hand mixer definitely feels a lot more like it's $30 than the popcorn maker feels like $50, and no way in hell is that charging station $350, so--waaaaaaaaaait, you say it's made of "Italian leather"?  Hmmmm...maybe it might actually be $350, and if so, it'd have exactly the same price as the blender that got me up here, and $48 already seems pretty expensive for the clock...yes, I know that 9821 said about the clock that
I think the trap here is it’s customizable, which might increase its value
$48 kinda seems like it might be that "increased value"...but at the same time, $175 also seems pretty expensive for a non-Italian leather charging tray, so maybe possibly that $175 already takes the leather into account...

I refuse to believe, however, that that translator is $260, but at the same time, $50 also kinda sorta seems like it'd be right for the breakfast maker...

You know what, I'm far from confident on any of these besides the mixer and popcorn maker, and if I happen to fall into any sorta traps or anything, eh, whatever, but I'm gonna go slightly against the audience and go with:

*DING!*

...right! Eliminate half of those boxes!

*tinkling sound effect*

Half the boxes gone, eight remain. Now, you can halve it down to four if you're right about this second one. You've gotten a lot of help from the audience, and in the end you decided to forge your own path. Was that the right thing to do? Is that charger half off?

*BUZZ!*

Nope, I'm sorry, your gut was right the first time, but you talked yourself out of it... is that clock really $96?

Guess so. We're still left with eight potential receptacles of cash. The audience had it right after all...

Shake it off, 9001, you can still narrow it down to four boxes if you get this one right. You said, again, with some trepidation that you believed the breakfast mixer was half off. Is it?

*DING!*

It is! Eliminate half of those boxes!

All right, GameShowFan9001, moment of truth... that $5,000 is hidden inside either box 1, box 4, box 13, or box 16. Tell us where the cash is and it's yours!

[The bonus would have been the normal $1,000. Dwayne can't vandalize at the last minute if there's no physical sign to vandalize...]

All right, GameShowFan wants lucky box 13, so let's give GameShowFan lucky box 13!

Now, here's what we hope will happen. You will stand right here, behind the box, you see. You're going to put your left hand here, and your right hand here. And--not now, you have to wait for the signal--you will lift the box up, and we'll see what's in the box. And hopefully, that cash will come spilling out everywhere!

*Dwayne pulls a handkerchief out and begins dabbing his forehead to clear the sweat... unbeknownst to him, a stray bit of spray paint had somehow made it onto the handkerchief and is now staining Dwayne's forehead yellow with each dab*

So place your hands on the box HERE--that's good--and I will give the signal. I will say one, two, three, NOW. I'm not saying it yet, I'm just saying that's what I'm going to say. And when I say the word NOW, you will lift that box as high as you can and we'll see all the cash in the box falling all over the place!

Okay, are you ready for the signal? This is it!

*BUZZ!* bom bom bom bom... WOOOOOOOOO

Awww..... I'm sorry. ModelBot 4000, where was the cash?

In box 16, at the end. Well, don't fret for too long, 9001, because you're not through yet. You'll still get to spin the Big Wheel.

*Dwayne loosens his tie a bit in relief... only to realize the paint had escaped his hands and is on his tie... and Dwayne quickly makes a break backstage for the green room in horror*

Don't go away, we're going for another winner after these words!

We're going to get LIT... because the winner is LiteBulb!

LiteBulb, you've picked the perfect time to come up on stage. I'll bet that you've been patiently waiting, biding your time, until this moment. Because we have not one, not two, not three, but FOUR wonderful prizes you can win! Take it away, AnnouncerTron!

*cue MG-HSH* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gTMRkDZkuI)

It's a reclining loveseat...

...a Polaroid camera......

...and an electronic drum set!

First, from the Ashley Furniture Company, the chic faux leather of the Garristown power reclining love seat is fully adjustable at the touch of a button, with both sides reclining independently, and even features power adjustable headrests! The perfect gift for the couch potato in all of us!

Second, they say that nothing is forever, so what makes Polaroid cameras the exception? Well, they've never seen a camera restored like THIS! This professionally-restored Polaroid SX-70 camera will bring classic instant photos back for the 21st century! And with modern enhancements like manual shutter adjustment and automatic settings, you can shoot Polaroids that look every bit as good as those shot on a modern camera. Shake it, shake it, but not too vigorously or you'll distort the image!

And get on your Keith Moon impression in closed quarters with the Roland TD-17 electronic drum set! With rubber cymbals and fully functioning mesh drum heads simulating a real kit, just plug your headphones into this electronic drum module and you'll be able to bash, crash, and thrash away through the wee hours of the morning, and the apartment next door will be none the wiser!

*Dwayne makes a cutting motion across his throat, as if to signal to cut the prize copy off there, but it's too late, they've already announced FOUR prizes...*

And finally, it's A NEW CAR!

Drive in STYLE with the Chevy Spark! Featuring a 1.4L four-cylinder engine, five-speed manual transmission, engine block heater, chrome fuel door, and premium carpeted floor mats. The Chevy Spark!

And LiteBulb, you will be playing More or Less! This game is really quite simple. We will be paying a visit to each one of these prizes in turn, starting with the recliner. Each prize has a price on it that is WRONG. All you need to do in order to win the prize is to tell me whether the actual price is more or less than the false price.

Now, we'll start with the reclining love seat. You have to win the reclining love seat in order to play for the camera. You have to win the camera to play for the drum set. And if you win all three, you will get to play for that car! Any mistake will end the game, and you will keep whatever you've won to that point... but we all want to see you make it to the end and win that car!

*the daggers being shot from Dwayne's eyes upon hearing that would seem to indicate that, no, everybody does NOT want to see LiteBulb win that car...*

So, LiteBulb, tell me...

Is the reclining love seat MORE or LESS than $1,400?
Is the camera MORE or LESS than $400?
Is the drum kit MORE or LESS than $2,000?
And finally, is that car MORE or LESS than $14,400?

Best of luck!

*audience shouts suggestions*

Again, at this point, everything is going to be so close, that I could just be off, but

*peanut gallery*

I've got no clue on the furniture, since that price can fluctuate based on who's selling it. Just go with your gut here. Also, lol 123^3 guessing right with cheap furniture.
I agree with you with less on the camera, only because it's been refurbished, so it has to be cheaper, I think?
I want to say less on the drum set, based on my very limited knowledge on ddrum sets? But honestly, it's probably either $1,899 or $2,099 (or maybe even $1,999, but this show hasn't really reached Kaizo Price levels yet).

With the Spark, I guess I'd want clarification if the destination fee is included. The base Spark is $13,600 plus $995 in destination, so if it is, great, it's clearly over. If not, there are barely any options, so it should be less.

LiteBulb, we have a price of $1,400 on that love seat. Is the actual retail price more or less than $1,400?

Litebulb: More!

LiteBulb says that he believes the reclining loveseat is more than $1,400... and LiteBulb is...

*DING!*

...right! And LiteBulb wins the loveseat! How much was it, exactly?

And that qualifies you not only for a lifetime of comfort and reclining goodness, but it also qualifies you for a chance at the camera!

Now, we have a price of $400 for the camera; is the actual price more or less?

Litebulb: Less!

Less, you say! Is it?

*BUZZ!* bom bom bom bom... WOOOOOOOOO

Well, LiteBulb, you have a love seat, and that's something they can never take away from you. And you also have a chance to spin the Big Wheel, which is coming up right after this!

[For those playing along, the drum kit was less at $1,900; the car was also less at $13,895.]

We're back with GameShowFan9001, LiteBulb88, and Plinkoman!

Now, all three of you were watching during the first half, so I assume you know how the wheel works. You know that the one of you closest to a dollar in one spin or a combination of two spins goes to the showcase! And you know that if you get a dollar exactly, you will win $1,000 and a bonus spin where you can potentially win an extra $10,000 or even $25,000! And everybody here knows it's possible--it happened the very last time the wheel was spun, and there's a chance our luck hasn't run out!

*Remembering what happened last time, Dwayne is not feeling well... why was that blasted S&P employee so insistent that the rules to the Showcase Showdown couldn't be changed mid-show? It's not like a $100 bonus wasn't generous enough for spinning a big dumb wheel...*

GameShowFan9001, you will be the one who spins the wheel first. Hopefully that wheel is still hot!

1. I'm in the lead and I spun 55 cents or more on my first spin.

P. S. That camera was almost $800? That was a very nice trap prize, Dwayne :-D.

Also...
That’s a fair question, and it deserves a fair answer:

It is not. I always try not to include destination fees when calculating car prices.
I sincerely apologize if I come off as rude/negative or if I seem like I'm just rambling, but I would definitely strongly suggest including the destination fees whenever possible since they're a mandatory charge on new cars -- if you look on any Monroney/window sticker for a new car, it'll have the destination fee listed (possibly under a different name like freight) and included in the total price, and if you were actually buying the car, you wouldn't be allowed to negotiate that charge

I would also suggest, however, that if you do choose not to include destination fees, you should say so ahead of time, perhaps in the car description or as a little "destination fees will not be included" disclaimer before the show, since otherwise players would have no way to know that destination was excluded, and I imagine most, if not all of us, would operate under the assumption that destination is correctly included like it is on the real show, and in this case, would've lost out on the car due to that assumption if they made it to the car in the first place, but would've won if destination was included

*GameShowFan9001 winds up and lets the wheel fly!*

GameShowFan9001, looking for redemption after that Half Off playing, can win enough cash to soothe those wounds... $1,000 or even $25,000 on this wheel, to say nothing of the showcases...

And it might come to a stop on... ooh, that 75 would be a good number! Will it stick?

Yes! And GameShowFan is quite content with that! Go stand over there next to the leaderboard!

And next we have LiteBulb88, with his love seat in tow and looking for more... give it a spin!

*LiteBulb attempts to finesse the wheel but it falls just short of a complete revolution, landing on the 60*

And I don't think that'll make it all the way around. All right, LiteBulb, you grab the wheel here, and I'll grab it here, and together we'll...

*both pull the wheel down, and it easily makes two rotations*

And there we go. That'll clear it easily.

And, you know, you just might be glad it did, because here comes that dollar...

Look at this!

Look at this!

*Dwayne holds his breath... oh no, not again...*

Stop!

Stop!

Aww... a little too much oomph for the dollar. You have 15 cents, spin it again.

*again, LiteBulb gives the wheel a gentle spin, aiming for a spot... but the wheel falls just short of making a clear revolution, landing on the dollar again*

And this spin won't count, it's got to go all the way around. Which, again, I'm sure is good news, you didn't want the dollar again. Come on, together, let's give it a big spin!

*again, both pull on the wheel and the wheel goes around once, twice, coming up on three times...*

Looking for anything from 60 to 85...

There goes the 70...

You need that 80 to come around again, but I don't know if it has enough gas...

No. LiteBulb, it's been a pleasure having you on the show. Enjoy your loveseat!

And that brings us to Plinkoman. Plinkoman played Easy as 123 and won a doorful of prizes, and would just love to do some more winning in the showcases.

*Plinkoman gives the wheel a moderate spin*

You need to beat a 75...

...and you just might tie GameShowFan if it comes around here....

Not quite, 40 cents is your base score, you'll need 60 for that dollar.

*Plinkoman gives the wheel another moderate spin*

And we're looking for that 60... and there it goes, and it's not going to come around again...

*Dwayne's heartbeat during that segment finally normalizes... well, the worst is over...*

And you'd be able to do wonders with that 50, but will it stop in time? Nope...

Plinkoman, 70 cents would be a good score any other day, but you're a nickel shy today. Thank you for playing, and enjoy your prizes!

GameShowFan9001, guess what? YOU will be in the showcases following this announcement!

*...Dwayne, halving calmed a bit, reaches for his clipboard to see what's on deck for the showcases and realizes that he's left his clipboard backstage! Oops! Booking it, he runs back to go and locate it before the break ends*

Stay tuned! Don't go away!

----

Also...I sincerely apologize if I come off as rude/negative or if I seem like I'm just rambling, but I would definitely strongly suggest including the destination fees whenever possible since they're a mandatory charge on new cars -- if you look on any Monroney/window sticker for a new car, it'll have the destination fee listed (possibly under a different name like freight) and included in the total price, and if you were actually buying the car, you wouldn't be allowed to negotiate that charge

[That's good feedback. I've calculated car costs without destination fees in all of my previous HYOs, assuming (probably erroneously) that when the show calculated MSRP for cars they did not include those costs--after all, they're not including shipping and handling in the ARP for any other prizes, right? I'll definitely keep that in mind for future HYOs. It wouldn't have made a difference in Let 'Em Roll, but know that destination costs aren't included in the ARP if any other cars appear in this episode. Now you all have a hint as to why I'm not much of a CSS threat...]

Both of the contestants in our showcase today have a game show fandom level that is OVER 9000!

Because the top winner in our showcase is none other than TPIRfan#9821! #9821 has been right about quite a bit all show, and he's ready for his final test!

And our runner up is GameShowFan9001, hungry for a big win to come his way!

Each of you will bid shown a showcase FILLED with fabulous prizes, and the one who bids closer to the Actual Retail Price of their own showcase--without going over, of course--will win it!

And, if you are the winner, and you're within $250 of your showcase total, you will win BOTH showcases! And you'll make our friend Dwayne here pleased as punch!

Now, pay close attention to this first showcase, because it could go to either one of you. Good luck!

*cue Valse Sentimentale* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUuusqy50yk)

This showcase contains prizes revealed as we visit the Transportation Farm!

And look who's running the Transportation Farm! It's our lovely ModelBot 4000! She has some words of wisdom for us. What has leading a farm taught you, ModelBot 4000?

"Why, the best model of transportation is by walking on your own two feet... because you can use your designer shoes!"

Dress in style with shoes from Christian Louboutin! This collection of four pairs of men's designer sneakers and penny loafers and women's sneakers and sandals will allow you to flaunt your affluence! Who needs anything more when you have the mark of high-end Parisan fashion designer Christian Louboutin on your soles?

But not everybody is happy with the way ModelBot 4000 is running the farm! After coming together, all the vehicles with wheels came together decided that they'd be better off without ModelBot 4000. So they staged a revolution and drove her from Transportation Farm! And who's leading this revolution? Why, it's being led by a fleet... OF NEW CARS!!!

*cue Aquarium* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCBDlC0N8Rc)

It's a fleet of four Ride-On Speedster toy automobiles! Each car comes equipped with a real turnable steering wheel, and is tested to be safe and stable on carpet, tarmac, gravel, and grass. Made from durable metal, plastic front and rear bumpers and real rubber tires, is appropriate for children ages 1 to 3 years old! Adult supervision required.

Now that the Transportation Farm is completely autonomous, they establish a code of ethics for all the transportation methods to follow. "All vehicles are friends." "Do not drink gasoline to excess." But the question of a leadership vacuum isn't fully settled.

Before long, a cry rings out on Transportation Farm. "Four wheels good! Two wheels bad!" It's no surprise who is leading it... it's the MERCEDES-BENZ!!!

*cue Dance of the Knights* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBsKplb2E6Q)

From Tobi, this electric miniature reproduction licensed by Mercedes-Benz measures 42" by 28" and can support up to 88 pounds and wheel toddler-aged children around any flat surface! Running for up to 2 hours on a single charge and can be operated either manually or via remote control, you're certain that your youngsters will be both safe and stylish. Seat belts and functional doors included!

Naturally, the rallying cry of the car is not unopposed. Another voice is heard ringing out across the farm: "Four wheels good! Two wheels better!" Who's trying to stake their claim in Transportation Farm? Why it would have to be... the new moped!

The Moto Pro X-PRO Bali 150 gets great gas mileage on its four-stroke, air cooled 150cc engine. Street legal, too, so you'll feel the wind in your face travelling at speeds up to 45 miles per hour!

Finally, ModelBot 4000 returned to Transportation Farm and, seeing the power struggle, decided to haul all of the other smaller modes of transportation away... using...

*Truck cue* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KKHFkQ-Gso)

HER NEW CAR...!!!!!

...T!!!!!!

Carry up to four passengers in the Villager 2x2 Golf Cart! A licensed street vehicle in all 50 states, with a weight limit up to 800 pounds and operable for up to 30 miles on a single charge, you'll be able to navigate crowded areas with ease! Watch those you pass by sneer with jealousy as you travel past them at speeds up to 23 miles per hour! And with its 48-volt electric motor, it's eco-friendly, too! The Villager 2x2!

And this showcase, which was quickly prepared during the break and hopefully will not be studied by grade-school English teachers as any sort of extended allegory, can be yours if The Price is Right!

And TPIRfan#9821, as the top winner in the show today, you have the right to bid on the showcase if you choose, or pass it to GameShowFan9001 and claim Showcase #2 as your own. What would you like to do?

Oh cool, this reminds me of the The Masque of the Red Death, where after the red was hit twice in a row, Dwayne wanted to murder all of us.

Since there's no way in heck a car's showing up in these showcases, I'll just take a whole bunch of motorized crud. This heart of this showcase is definitely the golf cart, which I'm foolishly am going to peg at $10k. With that in mind, let's go with $16,061. I'd normally go $16,251, but at this point, hidden rules are out the window.

9001, be prepared to go with a $1 bid.

*DING!*

$16,061 it is for the motorized devices!

9001, THIS is your showcase!

GameShowFan9001, your showcase contains prizes revealed as we visit ModelBot 4000, who, since the end of that last showcase, has been stranded in the middle of the desert!

"After being out here for so long, I really am parched!," complains ModelBot. "Why, I'm so dehydrated, it reminds me of the dehydrated snacks I used to enjoy..."

"from my new air fryer!"

It's the YEDI Total Package air fryer! The only air fryer to ever be selected for Oprah's Favorite Things list, you'll be able to deep fry your favorite foods with 85% less fat than traditional deep-frying methods. Perfect for health-conscious who love a tasty treat! Includes dehydration functions, too, as well as a recipe book and 11 accessories!

As ModelBot continues onward, she continues her lament.

"The climate is so hot and dry! If I have to be in a desert climate, I'd prefer to be in the cold, semi-arid climate...

...of central Mexico!"

You and a guest will fly round-trip coach from Los Angeles to Zacatecas, Mexico, located in the beautiful temperate central region of Mexico, where you'll enjoy a six-night stay at the City Express Zacatecas! Visit the rich historical sights of a city protected as a World Heritage Site. You'll be able to see nearby art museums, cathedrals, and archeological sites that will make you marvel at the region's rich history. And we've included a bus tour of the city!

Finally, after hours and hours on end, as ModelBot staggers over a sand dune, she can't believe what she sees.

"I thought there was no way we'd ever see one of these again!" she said. "This must be a mirage!"

And ModelBot is correct. What she is seeing IS actually a mirage...

But some people around these parts might also refer to it as...

A NEW CAR!!!!

The 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage! Comes with standard equipment, 1.2L three-cylinder engine, five speed manual transmission, and front wheel drive. The Mitsubishi Mirage!

And this showcase, which ends with ModelBot speeding away into the sunset back to the relative safety of our studio, can be yours if The Price is Right!

Take a good look, 9001, because that showcase belongs to you... what do you bid?
Title: Re: "Reactive Budget" - gamesurf's Price is Right

Before I bid, am I correct to assume that the Mirage is a base-level ES?  Also, could I get an image or two of what the City Express Zacatecas actually looks like, perhaps a shot of the inside of the room or of the outside of the hotel?  I would do it myself, but y'know, I'd rather not accidentally discover any prices in the process...

$15,061 for GameShowFan9001. $16,061 for TPIRfan#9821. Who will the winner be? Stand by to find out!

----------------------------------

Welcome back! Let's find out who the winner is!

We'll begin with #9821.

#9821, you were shown a golf cart, some designer shoes, a moped, and a variety of toy cars. You bid $16,061 on it.

TPIRfan#9821, the actual price of your showcase... IS...

*cracks envelope*

oh my...

SIXTEEN THOUSAND...

...

...

...

*Dwayne's heartbeat can be heard palpitating from across the stage*

...

THREE HUNDRED...

...

...

...

SIXTY SIX dollars.

And that leaves a difference of only...

three hundred five dollars. That was a very, very good bid!

Now, 9001, in order for you to win your showcase, you must come closer than $305. It's a tall order, but it is possible!

9001, you were shown a Mitsubishi Mirage, a trip to Mexico, and an air fryer. You bid $15,061, exactly a thousand dollars less than #9821.

9001.... the actual retail price of your showcase IS!

*cracks envelope*

...

...

...

...

*Dwayne is about to have a heart attack... why was the $305 difference revealed first?... It can only mean...*

...

...

...

...

for a difference of...

...and TPIRfan#9821, that difference will hold up, and you're our big winner!

*#9821 begins to go ballistic, running across the stage to enjoy all his vehicles*

*Dwayne faints in relief*

9001, thanks for being on the show with us today. Happy to have you with us.

*TPIRfan#9821's friends and family join him onstage in the winner's walk*

TPIRfan#9821 cleaned up! He's won over $51,000 in prizes today--and over $27,000 of it in cash! Not bad at ALL for a budget show!

Folks, this is gamesurf reminding you, help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered! Goodbye, everybody!

This is AnnouncerTron 3000, speaking for gamesurf's Price is Right! A HYO Forums production!

---------------------

To everybody who participated, thank you! First off, let's go over the winners' totals, and there's one name that towers above everybody else:

TPIRfan#9821: $51,143 (dishwasher, iMac, ATV, $27,300 cash, toy cars, power wheels Mercedes, designer shoes, moped, golf cart)
Plinkoman: $5,489 (Twilight Zone lazy susan, jukebox, outdoor TV, digital home gym)
123123123: $3,299 (OneWheel, $1,500 cash)
geniusinmath: $2,300 (grill, $500 cash)
LiteBulb88: $2,050 (freezer, loveseat)
GameShowFan9001: $635 (blender, mixer, popcorn maker, portable translator, breakfast maker)
Nate Powalie: $124 (watch, expired supplement)
tpiradam: $124 (watch, expired supplement)
MSTieScott: $124 (watch, expired supplement)

All in all, you succeeded in winning a total of $65,288 in prizes today! That's about 35% of all the cash and prizes offered in IUFBs, pricing games, and the showcases.

But, I'm able to tell you that the total budget for this episode, determined before the show began, was...

$64,200, meaning you've successfully bust the budget! Congrats! Dwayne has told us that we will have to make up the difference by cutting back on catering...

One key reason why you ended up busting the budget was because it very much appears that at least two of you cracked the Showcase Showdown formula! This one wasn't terribly complicated: the wheel advanced the number of spaces that was the number you submitted plus the number of seconds (0-59) on the timestamp when you submitted it. If this came to less than 20, I repeated the spin but adding the timestamp above it.

It still took some timing and a bit of luck to finesse the wheel (as the timestamp won't be locked in until the post goes through, and per HYO Forum rules, editing post-hoc is not allowed) I have to assume that #9821 was paying close attention to the other two spins and realized the pattern, and that earned him $26,000! And #9821 wasn't the only one--I also got a DM from Scott gleefully warning me that if he made it up onstage he believed he would be able to do the same. Dwayne is sure breathing a sigh of relief that that didn't happen...

Naturally, future Showcase Showdown formulas will be different, so don't think you'll be able to pull off that same trick in future HYOs!

Notes on the pricing game setups:

Do The Math was obviously a Scott tribute, as he's the one who originated the idea of a "reactive budget" show, and it was meant to be won. It was not, however, meant to have two prizes from the real-life TPIR on the same day... that was just an incredible coincidence.

Let 'Em Roll was luck-based way to determine the tenor of the rest of the show. If the car was one, we'd hit budget mode early. If not, I would keep normal setups for the other prizes. Unfortunately for 123123123, the dice weren't on their side, but it meant the show could still be somewhat normal from that point forward.

Had the car been won, Around the World had a $6,000 trip to Aspen lined up to replace the $9,000 trip to Tokyo. I really liked the idea of a travel-themed quickie and wanted to pay it tribute. It's a very creative idea and one of the best PG ideas I've seen on the board.

The second half was set up for a mostly normal show (a $6000 package in Easy as 123, relatively easy PGs in Half Off, and a $20,000 Hyundai Elantra as the final price in More or Less)... but once lightning struck in the first Showcase Showdown, all bets were off. That was the true turning point of the show. After that, I leaned towards making setups cheaper, rather than harder, because part of the appeal IMO is seeing things spiral more and more out of control as things are won.

Yes, I've been guilty of not including destination and handling fees in my car prices in the past--that will change in future episodes. I had mistakenly assumed that the show didn't include them when calculating ARPs. Future shows will include destination and handling fees in car ARPs. Thank you for pointing that out, or I would have gone on assuming that was how everybody did it. Now you know why I'm no good at CSS :D

Thanks for being patient with updates this past week, I've had a busy schedule. And thanks for being willing to play and/or watch! I had fun putting it together and I hope you did too!

Guilty as charged.  :P If you hadn't said that, a DM asking you to change your wheel spin formula was coming right now. But Scott, did you figure it out before or after I blatantly put a bonus spin number in my post? I was planning on just pulling at the :20 mark, but thought I'd add a couple of seconds to make it less obvious.

Great hosting gamesurf! I'm only kicking myself for not going 16161 instead, lol.

But Scott, did you figure it out before or after I blatantly put a bonus spin number in my post?

I formulated my hypothesis after the first spinner and saw it confirmed after the second. My post after you posted your numbers in which I said I was watching Dwayne instead of the wheel was my subtle way of pointing out that I knew what was about to happen.

And Dwayne should be relieved that I never won my way out of Contestants' Row, as I was able to time my final three bids exactly at :00.
