Title: Path to Perfection: 123123123's PG Gauntlet (S2, E6)
Post by: 123123123 on June 11, 2021, 06:37:18 AM
Calling all TPiR super fans! (So basically anyone on the site)

Do you have the pricing acumen, the pricing game skills and just the right amount of luck to perfect an episode of the Price is Right? Well, here's your chance to prove it.

Starting this Tuesday afternoon (6/15), the Numbers studio will open its doors to all contestants who want to try their luck.

Just like a normal show there will be 6 pricing games, but no IUFBs and a single showcase to bid on Range Game style.

Unlike a normal show though, all contestants will play all the pricing games at the same time. If you keep winning, you keep playing for a shot at perfect show bragging rights.

But the moment you lose a game, you'll be immediately escorted out of the building, deemed a poor pricer. (You'll still be able to play along for fun though)

The show keeps going until someone makes it to the end and wins the showcase, or all players are eliminated.

Will it be fun? I sure hope so. Will it be easy? Not a chance, as the crew fully expects most of you to flame out before the first commercial break  :lol:

But I love being proved wrong, so come one and all and flex your pricing muscles!

Since everyone who joins will play, no need for an elaborate sign up, but please give a simple "I'm in" so I know who's a part of it

This looks very intriguing, I'm in!

First off, good luck with the interview. It will probably start around 5pm eastern time, but you'll basically all only have to give one response per game in a 24 hour period, so not too time consuming.

1233: Perfect, time to let the games begin!

Welcome everyone, thank you for joining me in the studio. Now, since this isn't an actual episode, its a very limited staff. Just me, the announcer, you guys and a bunch of prizes to win. Think of me less as a host and more a glorified tour guide.  :-)

Now, the format is pretty easy once we get going, but I'll explain it now for the sake of clarity.

I will reveal the prize and the first game of the day in just a little bit. Once I do, all players on the list above will have 48 hrs to give their answer, hopefully the right one. Afterwards, I will reveal the result from one of your perspectives

If you win the game, nice. I'll show the next game, and you can try to keep your win streak going.

If you lose, not as nice. You won't be able to have your own personal perfect show, but you'll still be able to play along with the rest of the games.

As long as there is still at least one player who hasn't lost, the show continues.

Finally, if some one or multiple people can make it through the pricing game portion (unlikely) and also win the showcase with a chosen range (improbable), they will be able to wear the badge of honor knowing they can perfect an episode of TPiR all on their own!!

{cheers from the players}

Sounds like you are all hyped up for it, so let's get moving! Hope everyone has fun, remember its just a game with immense bragging rights

{contestants follow 123 to turntable, tour-guide style}

~~~
Ok, what we have to start the proceedings is over in door 3 I believe. Mr. Announcer?
Announcer: I sincerely hope you all make it far, because the longer you make it, the more I get paid.
Now the opening prize today is...
{door 3 magically opens}
...a new waverunner!!!
(https://i.imgur.com/HSm3Pfr.jpg)
This neon lime green EX waverunner from Yamaha includes a detachable Bluetooth speakers and a waterproof storage bag!!
{applause from the players}
Thank you, and around on the turntable we have Coming or Going. What better way to ease you into things than a 50/50 chance  :-)
Now, to give me the right price of the waverunner, you can either make the numbers come towards you...
{tilts board}
(https://i.imgur.com/hgydcKz.jpg)
...or make the numbers go away from you.
{tilts in the other direction}
(https://i.imgur.com/Ii3z8WL.jpg)
Now everyone on the list above, please give me your individual choice as to whether you're coming or going. And try not to let the first game do you in.  :lol:
{walks group over to GPT}
You've gotten past the first game, and that's an accomplishment in itself. But now you have a taste for winning, let's keep it rolling. What great prizes are on the line now, Mr. Announcer?
Announcer: This summer is bound to be a much needed return to normalcy, and one of the biggest events is the upcoming Olympics. So in honor of the summer games, we're gonna offer you...
{door 3 opens}
...an Olympic field event set and a weekend getaway to this year's host country, Japan!!
(https://i.imgur.com/ybEA4bU.jpg)
First, we have this Olympic grade quality field set that consists of an 800 gram 2.6m long men's javelin, a 600 gram 2.3m long women's javelin and a 1.6kg discus.
(https://i.imgur.com/6lGwyJi.jpg)
Then, you and a guest will fly roundtrip from Los Angeles to Tokyo, Japan for a 4 night stay at the Park Hotel Japan. You will stay in a deluxe double room with breakfast included, and also will receive two general admission tickets to the opening ceremony of the Olympics!!
{cheers from the group}
(https://i.imgur.com/HBoDYK4.jpg)
Now I present to you all Blackout, an original game I played way back in one of my earlier shows, albeit under different rules.
I went back, looked that show over and realized not a single person who was a part of that show is part of today's group, the times really have changed around here.
Now the game is very simple, the price of the field set is somewhere on this board, as well as the price of the trip to Japan.
I want you all to use these 3 explosive blackout boards at the bottom of the board to blackout 3 prices you believe do not belong to either prize.
If you successfully leave the 2 correct prices uncovered, you'll be on your way to see the start of the Olympics!!
{hooting and hollering ensues}
Now I need everyone left on the list to give me 3 prices they would like to blackout. Remember, you want to blackout prices that don't go with either prize. Best of luck everyone.
{the remaining rabble thinks it over}
For the field set, I'll black-out $1,299 (though I'm not 100% sure on it), $2,097 and $3,884. For the trip to Tokyo, I'll black out the $9,368, the $8,176, and *crosses fingers* the $5,460 (again, the trip black-out numbers are just blind guesses).
The price of both prizes can be anywhere on the board, I just need you to cover up 3 prices in total that don't belong to either. Have another go at it
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'll black-out the $9368, $8176, and $2097.
The more I look at those prices, the more unsure I am. $3,884 I think is a lock, as the field set isn't that much and Tokyo isn't that cheap. Tokyo being only 4 nights should blackout $9,368 as well. The copy suggests the three items in the field set are sold together, eliminating a possibility like $2,097, a price which implies $x99 for each item.
My guesses therefore are $2,097, $3,884, $9,368.
Let’s get rid of $9,368, since Tokyo’s not that expensive, and let’s get rid of $795, since the javelin set isn’t that cheap, and let’s get rid of $3,884, because... it doesn’t feel right.
1233: I honestly didn't even know they broke the rule this year. Funnily enough, they've only broken the "trip is always going" half of it, the "non-trip is always coming" has still been going strong since at least Season 45. These are the trends we live for.  :-)
Anyways...
{picks up blackout boards, hands them to TPIRfan#9821}
Hmm, guess not. Then let's see what's up next. If you would so kindly, Mr. Announcer?
Announcer: Sure, I guess. First we have...
...a new bike with accessories!!!
(https://i.imgur.com/cuwHKEP.jpg)
First, this rugged 21 speed mountain bike has a triple triangle aluminum frame and suspension fork. Then, this bolt on bike bell rings like any other bell ever made does. Also, we have this goggle-compatible bike helmet that has 17 vents and 2 internal airflow channels.
And, last but not least...
{door 2 opens}
...a BRAND NEW CAR!!!!
It's the 2021 Kia Rio LX!! This sterling silver vehicle comes with all the standard equipment as well as bumper applique and cargo mats. The Kia Rio!!
{cheers as we walk back to door 2}
(https://i.imgur.com/Y57eNVA.jpg)
Line 'em Up is the third game for you all to try and complete a perfect first half.
The first digit in the price is a 1 and the last digit a 5. I simply need you to complete the middle part using the bike stuff prices.
Now, in order for this to work out, I need each one of you in your post to give me 4 guesses as follows:
-an initial guess
-a second guess if you have 0 numbers right initially
-a second guess if you have 1 number right initially
-a second guess if you have 2 numbers right initially
I figure you guys won't have trouble with that, but I'll be here to help and correct if any of your second guesses don't line up. Best of luck!!
1233: {points to JarodJGames} I haven't called on you yet, come on over and line 'em up!
{pulls handles around}
(https://i.imgur.com/HV7H3OF.jpg)
Now I ask, is the car $17,295?
{buzz}
Ok, ok, all is still fine. How many of those three numbers are correct?
(https://i.imgur.com/6YdPQZJ.jpg)
{ding}
According to your scale, I believe that earns a "Not Bad".  Now let's move up to "Spectacular and Victorious"
Step over there and change one number to win that car.
{moves last slider}
(https://i.imgur.com/6hbKE3U.jpg)
It's out of your hands now, and in the greasy hands of our announcer next to the car.
Flip the tag over and give us some winners!
{announcer looks down at unflipped tag}
Announcer: Uhh, umm...well I can definitely flip the tag, that's for sure.
1233: What?
Announcer: See for yourself.
{flips tag}
(https://i.imgur.com/c25PIaV.jpg)
{buzz}
1233: Ouch, I felt that one in my soul. This right here folks is what we like to call an old-fashion bloodbath.
It's been great having you all on, but you are all collectively the weakest link. Goodbye.
Everyone except Plinkoman, that is. Congrats for surviving the carnage and having a perfect first half. The start of the second half is coming up after this list update.
{updates list}
{walks back to GPT}
Plinkoman, I have a confession. Line 'em Up did not go as planned. I expected some losses, but not that massacre.
But it's called a gauntlet for a reason, so let's keep it rolling. What's next, Mr. Announcer?
Announcer: Now we had a Halloween special a bit ago and we have some leftover, so feast your eyes on...
{turntable turns}
...this collection of clown memorabilia!!!
(https://i.imgur.com/lmWLCUt.jpg)
First, we have this 6 ft life size clown statue that sure to bring a smile, or tear, to your face. We also have this 2 ft square geometric clown painting that can bring together any room. Finally, we have this clown marionette puppet that is premium nightmare fuel, no doubt.
It's an unnerving prize package worth...$7,087!!!
(https://i.imgur.com/lFtcOr4.jpg)
{cheers}
1233: Nice, that stuff will finally be gone from backstage. I beg you to win this.  :-)
Now, in Secret X, there's an X somewhere behind these red spaces. I'm going to give you one free X and you'll have a chance to get 2 more if you know something about these small prizes.
(https://i.imgur.com/V91Sj9R.jpg)
Announcer: First, we have this 3 inch wooden kaleidoscope that has a glass prism lens. Then, this 16 inch rainbow box kite is made out of polyester and fiberglass. There you go, Numbers!
(https://i.imgur.com/Bn0Goem.jpg)
1233: Ok players, or I guess player, I need from you your initial X spot, your guesses for the small items and the order you will put your subsequent X's should you win them. Best of luck!!
{Plinkoman pondering decision}
Yikes! What a bloodbath!
Plinkoman, I would guess $18 and $35 respectively, and cover the middle and then the top—I don’t think Numbers would put it on the bottom and try to force a loss, but you never know for sure.
Wow. When I saw the other guesses I thought I'd be the sole loser. Maybe it's because Line 'em Up uses the same think music as Push Over.
You know you could've put some rodeo clowns in there just for me. (Not only do I work at rodeos, but I also have been a part of a clown act.)
My gut is the same as what gamesurf says; hopefully great minds will think alike!
First X in the top right corner.
$18 and $35
Second X in the bottom left corner. Third in the upper left corner.
For the first X, let's go bottom right corner. Price Guesses: $18 and $35. If correct on both, second X in bottom left, and third X in top left.
1233: Don't worry Plinkoman, this stuff is only the tip of the iceburg. You win this, I'll take you to the clown vault backstage and you can take whatever you want, everything must go.  :-)
Now, is that kaleidoscope $18?
{flips tag}
(https://i.imgur.com/aDrPlsl.jpg)
{ding}
That's a good start. Now how much is the kite?
{flips tag}
(https://i.imgur.com/bQiBIde.jpg)
{ding}
Beautiful, now why don't you takes these two Xs and put them on the board where they will help you the most?
{places on top and bottom left side spots}
(https://i.imgur.com/riJFSh3.jpg)
Hopefully the X is anywhere but the bottom. Can we keep the perfect dream alive?
{presses button}
(https://i.imgur.com/5O7iKWD.jpg)
{ding, ding, ding, ding, ding}
Smack dab in the middle! Well done!
You're 4 for 4 and, like I promised, I'll show you the clown vault backstage while the next game gets set up.
{heads backstage with Plinkoman}
{looks over list, tears off bottom half}
{returns next to Race Game curtain from backstage with 2 goodie bags worth of clown eqiupment}
Plinkoman, you've done great to get this far and your only two games and a showcase away from pulling off the feat.
Now take a look at what you could win now!
{RGC rises}
Announcer: First, we have great prizes for your living room!!
(https://i.imgur.com/sQc3EPo.jpg)
First, this 20" arched table lamp has a contemporary brown finish and a bisque colored shade. Then, this 4' long coffee table is made of manufactured wood and has a sleek black finish. Also, we have this 6' long cream colored sofa with high density polyurethane foam cushions!!
Finally, you might like to take a crack at...
{door 3 opens}
...this BRAND NEW CAR!!!!
(https://i.imgur.com/7oogJfq.jpg)
This 2021 Dodge Challenger GT comes with all the standard equipment. It is also equipped with blacktop, plus and driver convenience packages and an engine block heater. The Dodge Challenger!!!
(https://i.imgur.com/JtTbnI8.jpg)
{loud cheers}
1233: Well that is definitely a nice muscle car, but we have to work our way up there playing More or Less
So first we have to get the lamp, then the table, then the sofa and finally the car. Now all you have to do is tell me if the actual price of each prize is more or less than the displayed price. You can go ahead and give me all of your guesses. Best of luck!!!
{Plinkoman thinking it over}
Nice job Plinkoman! Perfection!
Higher, Higher, Lower, Lower, I think. The Challenger is nice, but I don't think it touches $35,000.
I was thinking MMLL before I saw your post; so, let's go two for two!
1233: You've got a whole site rooting you on, let's hope you can make it 2 for 2 on your own.
Now, you said the lamp was more than $600. And you are...
{pulls tag away}
(https://i.imgur.com/x8XjO6c.jpg)
{ding}
...correct! One down and three to go.
Now you said the coffee table is more than $1,500, and you are...
{pulls tag}
(https://i.imgur.com/XTi7ZvH.jpg)
{buzz}
...not right. Aww, that really is a bummer
{reveals rest of prices}
(https://i.imgur.com/j6co9Bg.jpg)
Plinkoman, as the last player left with 3 games to go, you were up against it. However, you gave it a valiant effort and I applaud you. I hope you and everyone else enjoyed themselves.
All that being said...
{losing horns start blaring from the studio}
You collectively couldn't beat the house today, but you'll probably get another chance at some point.  :-)
So until next, sharpen those skills and try your hand again.
{studio lights turn off}
*******
*Quick notes
-In my head, I wanted the first 4 games to be pretty tame and then MoL and the subsequent Check-Out to step it up a bit to earn
-CoG went about as expected, Blackout was supposed to be a gimme (can't have you guys lose an original game)
-I'll admit Line 'em Up was slightly hard with the 1 as the four digit, but I had no expectation of that result
-Overall, the show ended around when I thought it would, but with a lot less people than I expected
-Finally, thank you to everyone for joining and responding in a timely manner, 10 days from signups to finish was better than I could have hoped for
Numbers, this was a really good concept that I'd love to see again, as it's a lot of fun to let everyone play at once. Thanks for putting it together!
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I had a fair amount of free time these last two weeks and its an idea I wanted to try but never got around to.
Also, probably goes without saying, but if anyone wants to put together a show using the format, knock yourself out.
