Title: Back to ‘72 question
Post by: ssetta on January 02, 2022, 10:57:25 AM: There’s something about the limited edition pricing game Back to ‘72 that I’ve often wondered about. It’s the only game to display vintage prizes. But what I wonder is, do the contestants actually win those prizes? Because most of them have long since been discontinued by the manufacturers, and if they’re used, it’s very likely that they have defects.

This episode had the showcase winner play and win Back to '72, and the small prize values from the game were included. Seeing a good chunk of the prizes used in the game, no longer exist, it seems safe to assume that they just receive the cash value.

Post by: alansh42 on January 05, 2022, 11:14:24 PM: It just occurred to me that it has to be the cash value. Prize winnings are the current value (and what you'd get taxed on). When Snoop Dog gave away a 1962 Lincoln Continental in 2012, it was valued at $29,500 not $6074 (1962 original ARP). Same is true with the other vintage cars they've given away.

But I don't think there's any likely alternative. What else would that $220 in winnings be paid in, a gift certificate to Goodwill? Useless junk from the CBS props department appraised at $220 and paid to ship to the contestant's house?
