The Dreaded GameTek TPIR Game
« on: September 04, 2009, 02:07:06 PM »
I didn't know if I wanted to post this up here (or if it already has been posted), but this is just for "shiggles". Behold the Blasphemy that is...TPIR by GameTek, circa 1990. Enjoy, and see how many falacies you can keep track of...

I've got seven at least:

  • The Theme Music
  • You still have to spin again even if you get $1.00
  • You lose on Grocery Game even if your total is $0.
  • No Target Price mentioned in Take Two.
  • Top Winner in Showcase does not have option to pass
  • Actual Retail Prices in showcases not revealed

What do you think?

Based on what WadeSimPrice has said, I have come to the conclusion that GameTek's version of TPIR is terrible. I mean, having to spin again if you get the dollar on the first spin? As far as I know, that never happens on the real show. GameTek's version of TPIR gets a zero out of ten from me. Sorry folks, but it's that bad.

I can come up with a few more:

  • No losing horns or any other sounds associated with the show (bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc.)
  • Bidding always starts with the first player
  • A new set of players is announced after the first Showcase Showdown
  • You only get one shot at Take Two
  • The Wheel always starts at $1.00

LINEUP: Credit Card, Card Game, Correct Price (which I believe is 1 Right Price on the real show), Range Game, Grocery Game, Take Two

There was a target price ($70), but you weren't allowed 2 chances to get it.

At least they got the order on the wheel right.  On the Commodore 64 version (which equally sucked), the number order was backwards!

Heck, even my TI Price is Right is better than this. :P

OH MY GOD...

This was actually "for sale" ?  Well, games had to start somewhere.... But man....

Spinning again on a dollar MANDATORY? = Automatic Game Failure

Back in 1990, you guys would have been playing that game for hours on end, despite its flaws.  You have been spoiled.

"Showcase Challenge" ?

Also, being able to bid again on the Showcases if you go over.

Every time I watch this I bust out laughing at how incredibly bad the opening theme is.
