No, they weren't handpicked. Negosyo packages are very popular things to give away because it helps people to be self-sufficient, so to speak, which is kind of what the government wants, instead of relying heavily on third parties, like money remittance by Filipino ex-pats (remittance contributes a large chunk to the Philippine economy). It does look a little weird, but you have to come at it from a cultural aspect; the Philippines, though heavily Westernized thanks to the US, still has a vastly different culture from here in North America.

Oh, and for the record, the president of the Philippines is the brother of the host.

Another pet peeve: the prize spiels Rich and Rich have to read are ridiculously long! Especially for IUFBs and for small prizes used in PGs.
