FULL RECAP - TPiR 11/15/2006
« on: November 15, 2006, 03:53:59 PM »
Must be a busy day for Joe…so allow me to kick off a recap / discussion thread.

Marc

GADZOOKS, IT'S WORSE THAN THAT!
We've had to deal with windstorms and their effects today around these parts. Here on Orcas Island the power went down just as I was ready to post the daily recap. I've been offline for six hours, but now the power is back and the winds are diminishing. Others around the area are going to be dark for some hours to come, but since I can post here goes nothing...

The Spelling Bee loss was as painful a loss as there's ever been.

Did anyone notice during One Wrong Price, that there was a weird light-blue thing between door #1 and door #2?  It was gone by Barker's Bargain Bar.  Anyone know what the heck that was?

Today wasn't the first time a contestant wound up with only two cards in Spelling Bee.  It is the first time, at least that I can remember, where the contestant could have actually won the car despite that, though.  I can't feel to sorry that he didn't win, though... I mean, he completely botched the pricing part, so if he had risked the $1000, he'd have won the car despite doing absolutely nothing right in the game.  Pricing-wise.

Dang, did that price for the trip to France ever just come outta' nowhere in Balance Game!  I don't ever remember a $10,000+ trip to France on the show before.

Pretty decent show today-great contestants, PG lineup was sorta meh. Oh well. ANyways....

Spelling Bee: Anyone know exactly the last time a contestant only had two cards in this game? Oy, poor pricing on James' part, yet he would have won the car if he went on.Heartbreaking.

Balance Game: What??? How's that trip THAT expensive? I don't see how anyone would have won this today. Sheesh.

I saw that blue thingy too Frank, I have no idea what it was.

Y'know it says something about the game lineup when Balance and Line 'Em Up are the two best games of the day, at least in my opinion.

I really wish Bob would stop lifting the cards up in Spelling Bee.  I'd like to see him go back to just flipping them around right on the holders.

I wasn't surprised that Balance Game was lost, but I was surprised that the contestant's price was cheaper than the price of the trip.  How the heck was that trip so expensive?

And where the heck is Most Expensive?

I liked how the models in Barker's Bargain Bar made an effort to make it look like they were pushing buttons to activate the trilions, like the former permanent models did.  It would thrill me more if they simply made it look more convincing.  The former models did such a convincing job that I actually believed they were button-activated right from the prop.  Then when all the newbies came in and didn't do it, I was proved otherwise.

Was the fist digit in the car's price lit up at the beginning of Line 'Em Up?

I believe that "thing" is attached to the blue space between the doors, and is sort of a flap that can be pulled out, as it was during One Wrong Price.  I've seen that happen before on-air.

It wasn't too long ago.  I remember Bob forgetting to give the contestant the option to bailout with the $1,000 and simply proceeded with the cards, which he didn't win with.  Upon returning from commercial, Bob remarked his mistake and awarded the contestant the $1,000.
Roger Dobkowitz's Seven Commandments of The Price Is Right:
1. Tape and edit the show as if it were live.
2. Never tell the contestant what to do.
3. Size matters. (The bigger the prize, the better the prize and the bigger the reaction.)
4. All prizes are good.
5. Never do anything on the show that would embarrass a parent with a kid watching.
6. Never put on a prize that would make the show look cheap.
7. It’s the game, stupid! (It’s about the game.)

Well I watched TPIR through the CBS affiliate in Minneapolis/St. Paul and there was a problem with the signal there which practically interrupted parts of TPIR. I saw 1st IUFB briefly before it was cut off. When it was back on all I saw was James winning that prize whatever it was. Nor did I knew what the ARP was. I knew that the A was one of the cards there. Bob was about to reveal the second card when once again the signal was cut off. It went back just in time to see that the second card was indeed one of the 2 that said CAR. What a disappointment especially for Jumpin' James there. There was one uninterrupted scene I saw and that was the Balance Game. I would've guess $8774 for the trip there I think it was and still be wrong as well. And then there was the showcase more frank the second one exactly. I looked briefly at the second prize when once again another cut off by the signal. As a result I didn't had the chance to see the last prize in the Port O' Price showcase. Btw, what was the last prize anyways. I did to see Jumpin' James win his showcase and winning that car after losing the first one in Spelling Bee. By the time he reached his prize you guessed it another signal cut off. I hope tommorrow is much better with ABSOLUTELY no pathetic cut off interruptions.

Spelling Bee- I would've gone for it. You can win more than $1K later in the show, and you're going for a car, so why not? Then again, this is actually a win... it was a Focus, after all.

Showcase- Wow, I thought for sure James was over.

BEST CONTESTANT OF THE DAY- Ruth.

SHOW SUMMARY AND GRADE- Not much to this show besides a couple of good contestants... Grade: 2

Someone in chat said the Spelling Bee loss was YouTube-worthy, and I'd have to agree. So, here it is.

Spelling Bee: Ouch. Those small prizes were evil, so I can't blame James for doing so badly. He did the wise thing, but I would have gone just one time; if it wasn't CAR, I would've stopped at $500. It's too bad such a moment happened.

Balance Game: This was tough, though I had a sneaking suspicion the trip was $11,000+....and I was right!

One Wrong Price: I thought this was a loss when the cymbals were picked. Thankfully, I was wrong.

SSD1: James is dangerous, Bob. I'm surprised he didn't get out of the way when he won.

Pick-a-Pair: A loyal fan wins here!

BBB: I had a feeling he had lost when he chose the clock.

Line Em Up: Easy for those who know a Dodge Caliber is $14,985, hard for those who don't, unless you had guessed $15,325 or $15,375 on the first try. She came really close to saying $15,325 on the first try.

Showcase: I was surprised the second showcase was so cheap. With the soda fountain and that GEM Car, it was possible that showcase was over $20,000. I had a feeling James had overbid on the first Showcase, but thankfully I was wrong again!

Overall: Decent show today, thanks to the contestants.

PG #1:  Terrific... another game not due that's gonna mess up my AR list and GRECO card.  And is it true that a skunk in the SP portion has never happened before today, or was that another historic wrong?  And, to add insult to injury, I can't believe that he actually would've won the car.

One-Bid #2:  A "supply" of tweezers?  :-?

PG #2:   :-o  Ooohwee!  That was one expensive trip to Paris!  I had $8,774.  Smells like a forced loss to me.

One-Bid #3:  Dream on, Rob.  You has much of a chance of winning a Barker's Beauty as I do.

PG #3:  Roger's being mean this week!  We just played 1WP last week, and here it is again to screw us up.  Roger probably tried to set this game up for a loss as well.  I thought the sofa was overpriced at $1,560.

PG #6:  Dodge Caliber = CHEAP!  When Brenda changed that second number to 9, I went "BUZZ HER!  BUZZ HER!"

My showcase bids:
Truck--$23,126
FRPOPS--$15,751
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

Spelling Bee: EVIL! SP wise and it really doesn't help when you bail out at 1K only to find out you had the "CAR" Card the entire time.

Balance Game: $11,000 for Paris?! I thought $8774 was reasonable.

Pick a Pair: Tough, but good win by Ruth.

Line em UP: I was thinking $15K the entire time, and I still lost.  Still, it was a lot more reasonable than Brenda's $19K.

Showcases: Wow!  I thought the GEM SC was $12,000.  I was more surprised that James didn't overbid.
