What do you do for a living?
« on: July 09, 2011, 10:17:17 PM »
I'm kind of tired of seeing all of the "Three Strikes"-game and other ridiculous posts here in "Out in Left Field," so here's something a little more productive: What do you do for a living?

Me? As most of you know, I'm an attorney. However, most of you don't know that I'm actually an assistant prosecutor, a job that I recently got after being unemployed for 18 months. I handle primarily misdemeanors -- first offense DWIs, serious traffic offenses, 3rd degree & law enforcement assaults, marijuana/K2 possession, and drug paraphernalia cases. I also handle a few of the more minor felonies (leaving the scene, fleeing). I love my job and see a lot of really wacky stuff on a daily basis.

So, what do YOU do?

I own a swimming pool service and repair business in sunny, North San Diego County.  I have been very lucky, in that this has been a very "recession proof" business!!

I go to school, but I'm on break.

I'm too young to have a job.

I'm starting college this fall. I'm a computer science major, so I'll probably end up doing some programming job somewhere.

As I've said in other threads, I'm a Walmart cashier.  Not glamorous, but it earns me money.

I lift things up and put them down.

Ok, not really. I have a video production job at a rather unlikely venue---a senior living facility. We have a closed-circuit TV station for the residents, so they can see various musical performances and other programs. I shoot video, I edit it, I put it on air, and I handle master control [which is automated, of course!].

Currently I am a retail manager, a substitute teacher, and part-time student.

I am also looking for a high school teaching position, as I am changing careers.  My college has an alternate licensure program for people transitioning into teaching.  My undergrad degree is in marketing, so I hope to start out teaching high school business.

With the current teaching job market the way it is and teachers getting laid off left and right here in Kansas, I probably won't get a job for the upcoming school year.  At this point, I am hoping to latch on somewhere for the 2012-2013 school year.

I'm a Relay Communications operator. A few years back I worked as a director for a local cable TV station. I shot a pilot for a bingo game as host and it wasn't picked up. I left the business altogether due to being too stressful.
