*Macsen pops out of a time portal, take a look at this segment, and facepalms* Seriously? I had to check the edit dates on the raw recap files, and it's not like I did seven recaps in one night when the set woke up from its Season 40 crash.

*he does a quick rundown of the recap* Come on, there has to be a way to do... *notices Jonathan's near-suicide bid* ...oh...I forgot. There is a very big reason why I was increasingly off my game in 2011. I'll explain it outside the recap metropolican. I'm leaving this otherwise with just correcting Yolanda's name. *he jumps back through the portal*

Quote from: Me, earlier today... and by today, I mean 9/27...
This is one of those delayed episodes I told you about. I had PA duties on this day (varsity football), and all-day PA duties on Saturday (Pop Warner). I decided to wait until the site got back up to do this recap.

It will be done tonight after today's (9/27) recap.

Quote from: Macsen, nearly 12 years later
I came back to this recap, saw "Wall rant", and thought I would fix it. Then I went over the recap, remembered the date, and made a realization.

Maybe it was subconscious at the time...it's way too far in hindsight to remember motive or motivation...but at the time of the site crash of Season 40, that was around when my grandfather was in his final decline. He may have already been on his death bed at this point.

I mentioned the initial fall he suffered in the 1/13/2011 recap. I don't remember how much I mentioned him after that, but he spent the next 10 months in and out of rehab, and eventually in actual nursing. He had been dealing with Parkinson's for over a decade, and was  beginning to suffer UTI's with sporadic dementia. That fall, he suffered a heart attack that went undiagnosed initially, and it was at this point he was put in hospice.

He ended up dying the early morning of November 14, 2011, aged 81. He suffered a stroke and quietly passed about half an hour after my dad left the facility for the night. I guess he was the kind that didn't want his loved ones to watch him go.

To twist the knife a bit deeper--at least for my mother--he died the same day my eldest sister died, just days old many decades earlier. She was hoping it wouldn't, but understood if that's how it fell.

My dad told me about stories he would relate when he was lucid--stories that he actually told me years earlier. I was closer to him than any of my other grandparents.

Dad and I agree that he may have given up a bit after my grandmother died, nine years before him.

I really don't know if that affected how I prosecuted my role as recap guide, or if it affected whatever events led to me relinquishing the title. I just wanted to run off at the keyboard for a bit, and give a peek into what I was dealing with outside the site at that time. I'm not looking for pity; I'm long since over it.

I'm just going to append this to the recap, and not call attention to it. If you happened across it and read it, thanks. Being the recap guide was one of the most fun things I've ever done on the Internet. I have no delusions that my life has no impact. This is one of the impacts I have made, no matter how small.

I'm surprised that Mike left Bee so open - but Bee is on a bad streak still. 2 R's on the August makeup in 3 cards, now no R's in 5 cards. What wasn't surprising was L7.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

What's up with Balance Game's weird scale operating? That just didn't feel right.

Well, this was certainly a bit of a surprise lineup for today, in the sense I was expecting to see a third cash game. But, for a budget show, this was a decent one. Spelling Bee was a tough luck loss, but it was nice to see the "SP exacta" rule come into play - it's been a while since that happened. Other than that, lots of evil setups - Lucky 7, Side By Side $400 apart, etc. made for a weird feel to today, but we came out OK 3/6 largely due to the fact Hi Lo was as easy as could be. Just, very average. It's weird to have so many rare games come out this week.

Timings:
Spelling Bee (6) - 5:54
Side By Side (3.5) - 2:35
Swap Meet (4.5) - 3:34
Balance Game (4) - 4:24
Lucky $even (4.5) - 3:55
Hi Lo (5) - 4:18
Total (27.5): 24:40

Spelling Bee for a $32,000 car is bad idea. At least it's not one of those $13,000 ones they like to put in it.

I've never actually seen an exacta in Spelling Bee in a first-run before this, so that was nice to see.

I was very surprised when Carrie won Balance Game. I knew Ashley was cheap, but the dinnerware and the groceries made me think $7K.

Spelling Bee:  What a bummer after getting one of the prices right on the money! :-(
Side By Side, Balance Game, Hi Lo:  Nice wins! :-)

An okay show overall, IMHO.

Great way to start a show:  Spelling Bee for a $32,000 restored '56 Chevy.  Painful ending, though.

Looks like this show has gone back to offering cheap trips to Amsterdam.  For a while, the Amsterdam trips offered on this show have been over $8,000.

Was the operator of the Balance Game scales stretching for time?  If not, then there was no excuse for the scales to swing that slowly.  I'm surprised that somebody won this game.  I know Ashley furniture is cheap, but I didn't think that dining room was that cheap.  The groceries alone were $2,000 and the dinnerware was probably another $1,000, leaving less than $2,000 for the furniture.  Dirt cheap.

My showcase bids:
crApple--$22,107
:frbs: --$25,107
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".
