Carlos, how often would you estimate this occurred during the show?  I would say once every three weeks, but I'm interested in what you think.

I finally got my notes, and I randomly choose Season 22 (Sept. 1993-June 1994) to look at for this question, and here's what I found:

21 adoption segments:

Cat--Sept. 16 and Jan. 14

Dog--Oct. 8, Nov. 9, 17, 29, Dec. 9, Jan. 4, Jan. 24, Feb. 1, 11, 25, Mar. 9, 16, 30, Apr. 27, May 5, 13, 31, June 8, 16

Ten years later, in Season 32, (Sept. 2003-June 2004):

31 adoption segments:

Rabbit--Jan. 9 and Feb. 24

Cat--Oct. 13, 20, Nov. 17, Dec. 18, Jan. 2, 22, Feb. 3, and Mar. 30

Dog--Sept. 29, Oct. 2, 24, Nov. 3, 10, 24, Dec. 3, Jan. 15, 29, Feb. 10, Feb. 17, Mar. 2, 8, Apr. 6, 20, 27, May 4, 25, 28, and June 6, 15.

Maybe a little too much information, but I hope it provided some insight.

I've been wondering for some time, would it have been against regulations to have actually included the pet in the item up for bids package?

Dunno if it would have been in the '90, but in the '70, dogs actually were Items up for Bids!

You bothered to give us the dates the dogs appeared but didn't include their breeds and their favorite brand of biscuits?!   :P  Thanks for the information, Carlos.   :-D  Interesting that they became that much more frequent in Barker's later years.

They were also Showcase prizes -- the only instances I am aware of, mainly since I have said episodes, are a St. Bernard puppy on October 19, 1972 and a Cocker Spaniel pup on August 30, 1973.
The above is my opinion and mine alone.

To answer your questions: yes, I am a guy and yes, I have a face. (I also have the occasional spurt of weirdness.)

There used to be one, but it was sadly removed.

I don't think I ever recall seeing something other than a dog in the pet adoption segment.

When was the last time something other than a dog was part of the pet adoption segment?

I remember a couple of cats were still featured through the mid 90s.

Carlos mentioned a few posts back that in Season 32 (2003-2004) cats were offered, so it make sense that they were still featured in the mid 90s.

Many thanks to Carlos for looking this up.

There were 184 episodes in Season 22, so there was a pet adoption segment every 9 days or so.

There were 175 episodes in Season 32, so there was a pet adoption segment every 6 days or so.

It appears as though the segments greatly increased as time went on, from one every two weeks to once a week.

I'm just curious, did they ever feature cats or any other animals for adoption besides dogs?  We are very much a cat family big time (our little girl unfortunately went to kitty heaven last July and our current cat is Jamiee, and yes Bob he is neutered ;) ).

Looking at the top post on this page, not only were cats also used, but rabbits on occasion as well.

Any make it to YouTube?  Let's just say I'm the kind that considers cats to be the REAL "man's best friend". ;)
