2/22/13 -- RESULTS
« on: February 22, 2013, 03:24:36 PM »
Wow.

There's really not much else you can say about today's game.  It was a points bonanza thanks to CBS spoiling games all week.  But even if you chose to avoid all of the spoilers, Cliffy still should've been a lock.  It's the second most popular PG in TPIR history (after Plinko) and it hadn't shown up in this year's Celebrity Week yet.  There was no way it wasn't getting played.  Baggy wasn't outright spoiled in yesterday's preview, but I think most of us noticed that it was implied by Demi Lovato's mentioning of certain grocery products.

Would you believe that, for the second FPG in a row and the third time this season, somebody almost hit the Super Secret $1M Bonus?  (BTW, it has been three different players.)  I swear, somebody is gonna nail this joker by the end of the season.

Since this was charity week and Mike Richards was in a giving mood, I'm also in a giving mood.  I feel live giving away some secret bonus money.  It's not the million ya'll are hoping for, but it's still a nice piece of change.

Obviously, I have to give bonus money to UniquePerspective today.  Not only was he the only player to have the stones to pick 241, but he is the first FPG player in at least 4 years to NAIL THE ENTIRE LINEUP!  6-FOR-6!  Unfortunately, his slotting sucked, so all he could get was 8th place.

OneBidTris gets bonus money because he pre-called "Squeezy for a car" in his picks.

Finally, bonus money is going to Roadgeek Adam and SteveGavazzi.  They admitted to me that they did not look at the CBS spoilers.  I applaud them for maintaining their ethical standards and not indulging in the free points.  They played the game as it was intended to be played.

Now to some scores!

Eight players scored 11 or more Main Points in today's game, so there was a big 25-point bonus up for grabs.  Of those eight players, only one didn't slot Cliffy 1st, so there was a multi-way tie at 4 MP/24 CP going into Cover Up.  Of the seven eligible players, Teddy got the most points off of Cover.  But Teddy didn't win the game, so that "4" bonus goes away for another week.

We had a TIE FOR THIRD PLACE!  That hasn't happened in a while.  These two players tied in everything.  Same score--13 MP/63 CP.  Same number of games picked--4.  Same four games picked--Cliffy, Cover, 1WP, and Baggy.  Same slots on all four games.  This week's dual bronze medalists are Punchboard91 and vadernader!

Our runner-up actually beat Punchy's score from last week.  He was one of the very few players not to pick Cliffy/W/6 in the 1st slot... but he made up for it by nailing Cover, 1WP, and Baggy--all rS/rR!  Who came up with that lineup for 14 MP/56 CP?  It's the Hag!

But our winner beat that score, and now holds the title of this season's second-highest score!  Taking Cliffy (rS/rR), Cover (wS/wR), 1WP (rS/rR), Baggy (rS/rR), and Squeezy (wS/wR) for a score of 14 MP/62 CP was...

Wayoshi!

Next Friday is another Play-Along, so the bucks will be flying again.  See you then!

Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

I swear at times I've had the worst luck with maximizing perfection with Golden-Road games. I blew an exacta about four years ago in CSS, and my s****y-ass slotting blew up in my face today (slotting's always been my FPG weak point). Ah well. Appreciate the bonus money at least.
Yeah...let's make this current shall we?

Wow, I didn't realize Hag was that close to me, and I'm just looking at his FPG now. Hag... you did so well despite misinterpreting a couple spoilers! :P I knew I was lucky to win getting Squeeze after 241, but now I feel like I dodged a bullet.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

I am a little confused by the bonuses this week.

I can agree with the 6/6 money, but I'm not sure why bonus money should go to the others...if people don't want to look at spoilers, that's certainly their choice, but that's the risk you take when playing this game. As a general rule, I don't like spoilers, but I feel that if it will help my performance, and it is not against the rules, why not look? For that matter, we can't know for sure that Adam and Steve were the only two not to look at spoilers...just that they were the only two to mention they didn't.

The Squeeze for a car bonus also confuses me, as that's part of the game...I guess from now on if I want a non-car game for a car, I should note that on my picks.

As for the actual results, I will certainly take a tie for 3rd...I was really banking on Freeze showing up. Even though it had a low CP rank.  :P

I actually kinda' needed it explained to me how Demi was implying Baggy over Rent in that promo.  I actually thought Rent would've been more likely to show up today before that was explained to me :embarassed:.

Not that it mattered anyway, since I haven't been playing this season... more just disappointed in myself for not noticing.

Also, that wasn't really Rent staging if you looked closely, they would have been much closer to the doors.

I am a little confused by the bonuses this week.

They're one-time things, only because it was charity week.

Next season, though, I may consider adding bonuses for perfect lineups and predicting non-car games for cars.  Of course, I would have to limit the predicting of non-car games for cars to once or twice per player per season because I can't have everybody slapping "for a car" on every game every week.

Wanted to state that I agree with Punchy.  The rules are very clear that searching for spoilers is actually encouraged, and while those that don't feel like seeking them out are saving time, they have to accept they are putting themselves at a distinct disadvantage.  There is strong evidence that bigwheelman100 also did not look at any spoilers, and I would guess sideshow didn't as well.

I was very pleased to see that I was the only one to take Balance for a car today because I knew it gave me a good shot to win if it came out.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents as well, agreeing with Punchy/Flerbie. Although a random $100,000 won't hurt/help that much in the long run, it just seems odd to give out random awards for not watching the commercial after SCSD2 yesterday.

---

Anyways, pretty solid day today even though I completely missed the fact that there had to be a non-car for a car today considering they had one last year and the timing just didn't make really sense without one (unless they wanted to go 28.5. I knew they wouldn't ever go 29)

Nice job Wayo. Also... Hag, what a rebound!!!!!

Wanted to throw this in as well. :)

I sense big things for you next week Hag.  :-)
Fingers crossed. :)

Hey Punchy, who do you sense big things for next week! I need to put money on this stuff! :P

Well, I must admit that Squeeze Play for a car threw me for a curve, and I certainly wasn't expecting 2 for the Price of 1 at all; in fact, when I made my picks, I was figuring that either Double Cross or Bargain Game (my eventual choice) would be played today, neither of which was correct.  :-( But still, I'll take my 4/6 and tiebreaker with absolute pride!
