Half Off - Tough Loss.
Flip Flop - Easy Win.
Line em Up - Nice Win.
Bonkers - Not bad but should've been a bit faster than that and look at the audience once.
Check Out - Ouch, thought she had a shot.
One Right Price - Fairly Easy.

There's a couple of high points from today's show and a few low points.

What was low were those small prize set-ups in 1/2 Off. The first two were just rotten, so, there was realistically no way they were going to be down to just two boxes. I didn't really care for Drew's indifference to the unlikelihood of the $10,000 being selected, either. I could just hear Bob's voice in the back of my mind saying something like "Just imagine how exciting this would be if you could pick the box with the $10,000!" whereas Drew had basically given up for the rest of the game. Also, speaking of Drew, by my count, I believe he did his "1...2...3 reveal" no less than three times today. It just baffles me that a man who is supposed to be the king of improv is content to just go through the motions and not be a little more creative. What also raised an eyebrow was that aggravated sigh while revealing the second showcase price. What was the deal with that?

What was also pretty low was the price of the car in Line 'em Up: a zero as the third number? Fortunately, the contestant was able to pull the victory out, especially considering he had none of the numbers right on the first try and took the show for a car that they probably didn't want to give away. Bonkers was a letdown in terms of the outcome, but, what was curious about this one was the random buzzer as Drew revealed the price. If this was a result of having the sound effects being automated, I question the wisdom of replacing Hope with a computer.

On the other hand, Flip Flop's price was fairly easy to decipher: no way was a trip to Singapore going to be only ~ $5,700. Playing Check-Out for a car was a neat surprise. I have a feeling that 1 Right Price was being set-up for a loss as I think most contestants would have opted for the TV being in the $3,000 range, so good win there. And, for as much as I may have criticized Drew's performance a few moments ago, the way he handled Audrey coming up on stage after coming on down was classic - straight out of Bob's playbook.

Did anyone notice that a couple of the LED panels in the turntable wall were malfunctioning at the top of the show?

So, a somewhat uneven show today, for my money. I believe it's the Breast Cancer Awareness Special tomorrow?

1/2 Off: Shouldn't have been played that badly.

F-F: Easy.

LeU: Getting them all wrong on the first try (or knowing the 9 was correct & only having one right) was just the help Jason needed to pull that win off!

Bonkers: Tracy was just too slow for a PG like this.

C-O: Olivia was doing fine until her collar overbid.

ORP: Easy, at least for me.

Showcases: Thanks to the first Showcase offering a trip home, Jason's winning ways were derailed.

Not a bad show to start this week.

Really not sure why we need such a mean show on taping week #1 of the season - are we just permabroke now? The good news is that C/O for a car, while set up for a loss, was VERY fair today, unlike its usual self. The bad news is that we shouldn't need C/O for a car on week 2 of the season, and Bonkers, Line and Half together were just plain rotten. Half should not ever need to be set up for a wipeout. Line (or really any games) shouldn't have 0 as the 3rd or 4th digit in the car price. Thankfully, that one backfired on Mike today because the contestant figured out that HONDA CIVICS have somehow gone up to 19k, but that part wasn't easy either. And hard Bonkers has its place, but for a generic kitchen when everything else is hard is overkill. Maybe they were trying to make up the big winnings from the Plinko show that never happened. Combine this with blah Drew (giving up on Half as others have said, etc.) and you get a show that reflects fatigue from being taped right after Plinko, and it shouldn't. At least the Line win was enjoyable but it masks how annoyingly hard the setups were today overall.

Bonkers really wasn't that bad.  If the first number is easy--and that number was easy today--it really should be won every time.  Though in fairness, today's contestant had trouble running in the shoes she was in.  High heels and Bonkers don't really mix.

1/2 Off: Shouldn't have been played that badly.

Why?  With the way the SPs were setup, missing all of them were a very real possibility today.  The first two pairs were clearly set up to be lost, and even the other pair wasn't easy.  It's quite understandable how badly it was played, really.

1/2 and 1/2 today, but still entertaining.

THE BAD NEWS:

1/2 Off: Just wasn't Devyn's day............I do blame that $200 soda maker, though (Ouch!).

Bonkers: Even though she lost, Tracy did good, despite wearing wedged shoes.

Check-Out: Olivia underpriced the collar, but at least she won a car at the end.

THE GOOD NEWS:

Flip-Flop: Easy win!

ORP: Good thing Jarod picked the home gym!

Line 'Em Up: Great work on the 2nd try by Jason!

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Despite that 1/2 Off setup, the show was a good start for the week!

Didn't it also seem that when she hit the button each time there was a bit of delay before it buzzed that she was wrong?  I'd assume that was part of the computerization, but also a bit of an issue if it slows down a timed game?

Definitely a slight delay. The bizarre buzz during the reveal is just another example of how these automated SFX probably weren't the way to go. It's still early, however - they undoubtedly need more time to work out the bugs.

Bonkers was not a hard setup at all. The first number was a gimme, and the last number was practically a gimme since the fake was an 8. The only way it could've been higher was if the last digit was 9, and considering the prize package consisted of three appliances, the odds were just astronomical that it was not 9. (Had it actually been 9, then yes, you can whine about an unfair setup.) She should've placed the last paddle lower and left it alone.

1/2 Off:  Evil, IMO.
Flip Flop, One Right Price:  Nice wins! :-)
Line Em Up:  Always great to see a car won!
Bonkers:  Shoulda been won, IMO.
Check Out:  Bummer! :-(  BTW, I played along & was too far away by $.40.

Not too bad overall, IMHO.

I really like the new 1/2 Off reveal.

1/2 Off's setup, though, was atrocious.  Its first pair of items and Line em Up (the winning of which was an utter miracle) are two of the meanest things I've ever seen.

And speaking of reveals, Adam's changes to 1 Right Price look like something he did because he felt like changing something now that he's the director, not because anybody thought it would look good (and it didn't).

Weird coincidence that there would be a shout-out to Aaron Paul the day after Breaking Bad ended.

Bonkers - Not bad but should've been a bit faster than that and look at the audience once.

"Look at the audience" is excellent advice if you're trying to lose Bonkers.
