The first half of the show was set up nicely.  Cover Up was easier, Bargain Game was very doable, and Hi Lo wasn't that bad.  (Adam probably disagrees; the general consensus was that he howled with anger once he saw George in funny hats.)

It's always nice to see Take Two - not the easiest game by design - won.  Pathfinder had to show up sooner or later, and I don't hate it quite as much as everyone else, but if it hits a stride of a 4- or 5-week game, I'll be happy.
Torgo has left the building. John and I never really cared for the way he presented himself.

My two cents:

Cover Up: Cool gag w/those wacky pictures of George. What will they think of next? Too bad about the game itself. It's too bad it had to come down to the 5th number after getting the first four right on the first try.
Bargain Game: Tricky, but I had a feeling the computer was the bigger bargain.
Hi-Lo: Great to see it back. And that was an easy playing (although I've never seen such cheap beets before). And for the 2nd year in a row, all of the PCH bread offered throughout the week has been won.
Squeeze Play: I knew the 0 was the number that had to be removed.
Pathfinder: Good to see it back. Too bad she didn't get a single number, but at least one small prize.
Take Two: Good to see it back, too. And its first win of the season, as well! And bully for Richard on winning his Showcase, including a Toyota Yaris!

And speaking of the Showcase, I feel bad for Jean. She overbid by a very small margin. Very painful.

And the stakes will only get higher next week. I can hardly wait for that!

Poor Adam... :P

I thought the George photos in Cover Up were hilarious. Certainly better than some of the other random things they've been using in place of numbers lately. The game itself was setup fairly, it's just a shame it wasn't won.

Bargain Game should have been won. That 27 inch or so touchscreen monitor really stood out to me on the computer, of course I'm a tech geek.

Hi Lo: Nice win with a fair setup. 3 out of 6 plugs were sponsored, which is a nice compromise to no sponsored plugs at all (or just 1 out of 6 as was the case in It's In The Bag on Wednesday...).

Squeeze play seemed pretty fair to me. That 0 just didn't sound right in the price.

I don't understand why so many people seem to dislike Pathfinder. While it certainly isn't a game that should be overplayed, I'll agree, I don't mind seeing it once at least every few weeks, personally. It's always been one of my favorites.

I'm fairly certain Mike planned on Take Two being lost, especially with that evil designer crap. Nice to see that backfire.

Again with the freakin trip and car showcases? Splendido, where are you??? :-(

It's gotten heavier playing than usual the last two years, and nearly every single one of the setups has been evil.  I've never seen such a high frequency of people not getting off of the first number. I'm blaming it solely on the fact that most of the time you have four consecutive numbers as your choice.  Instead of 0,1,2,3 give them 0,1,3,4 or something like that.  It's still not going to guarantee a win as Pathfinder is difficult by design, but some semi-successful playings combined with a decreased frequency will probably soften most people's attitudes towards it.

A below-average end for this week.

THE BAD NEWS:

Cover-Up: So close and so far away.........At least the George photos were funny.

Bargain Game: Total "gimme", and it shouldn't been a loss.

Squeeze Play: See Bargain Game......Damn "goose egg".

Pathfinder: I considered that a semi-wipeout, since the contestant only won a toaster oven, so......yay?

THE GOOD NEWS:

Hi-Lo: Nice to see that back, and good win by Amber, along with the $20K.

Take Two: Good job by Richard! Nice SC bid and win, as well!

THE BOTTOM LINE:

And so ends the annual PCH-Let's-See-How-Many-Times-Drew-Will-Mention-The-$20,000-Before-It-Gets-Too-Annoying-Week..........Jean, who lost on Bargain Game, had nothing but bad luck.........and she was over $123 on her SC, which was painful to watch.

As for the gimmick, there is a old saying, as I mentioned at the chat today: "When one door closes (PCH Week), another one opens (Big Money Week.......*groans*)". I guess this should also imply for the guest models as well.................

However, Mike should give Rachel a well-deserved break, seeing that this is her 3rd straight week. Where's the rest of the current models?

OK, let's see here.

Cover Up was good, but lost.
Bob Barker's Bargain Bar was a giveaway.
Hi-Lo: When was the last time we saw this?  And won for $20K?
Squeeze Play: I thought we were for another 98989 setup, but it was close.
Pathfinder: The usual.
Take Two: Nice win, and nice job of NOT picking those accessories (which is ALWAYS shown at every show; Mike, are you recycling these types of designer accessories or something?)

Showcases: BAD Break for Jean.  Off by $123 (First WSD of the season - what does this stand for?)  And seeing our first 2014 car of the season means the price had to be higher, and Richard made a nice bid around that area.

Cover Up:  Bummer! :-(  That is why I think that contestants should always get at least 3 chances unless all the numbers are right on the first or second try, or all the numbers are wrong on the first try.
Bargain Game. Squeeze Play:  Rats! :-(
Hi Lo, Take Two:  Nice job! :-)
Pathfinder:  Evil, IMO.
Showcase:  What a heartbreaking overbid by Jea!  That is why I think that overbidding should be allowed.

Not the best end to the week, but it could've been worse, IMHO.

Well, after having both cars given away the other day, we're back to this. Cover was more bad luck than anything, as that big first pass turned the game into Super Pick-A-Number. Pathfinder wasn't looking good regardless of the player's SP pricing, as she looked to be going high and away from 20K.

This show could've just as easily been 4 or 5/6 as Cover, Bargain, and Squeeze were all winnable. But it's not, and that's a bit of a letdown - at least the easier setups made to help award the PCH prize aided a couple extra wins this week.

Well, at least Take Two showed up and was won.

And that's the risk you take when padding your bid by some random amount. In this era you absolutely have to pad by at least some amount if you want a DSW since Showcase ARPs never end in 000-250 anymore, but unless you end a bid in -251, you also run the risk of padding your bid by just a bit too much.

Showcase:  What a heartbreaking overbid by Jea!  That is why I think that overbidding should be allowed.

Look Cartboy, you say this every single time there's a close overbid in a showcase. Would you say the same thing about Card Game? What about if a contestant goes a penny over in Grocery Game or a penny over/under the range in Check-Out? The rules are the rules, and they have been that way for OVER FORTY SEASONS. If someone goes a little bit over in their bid, too bad. That's life. You whining about it happening isn't going to change things.

You've stated your opinion, you've made your point. Unless you want to start a topic in "The Talk is Right" section about why you feel this rule which has been around since the ORIGINAL Price back in the 1950s should be change, let's drop it!

First WSD of the season - what does this stand for?
WSD is when someone overbids on their showcase by $250 or less... the name comes from reversing the letters in DSW for Double Showcase Winner, since you're basically doing the reverse of what you need to do to win both showcases.

Drew really, really would have done better revealing the overbid first today.  Drew has a bad habit at times of forgetting all about the showcase winner, and he was especially bad about it today.  Had Drew revealed the overbid first, he could have consoled her better without having the awkwardness of completely ignoring the person who won his showcase.
