Do you have any idea how much a private jet would cost to the Seychelles and back? Then you'd be yelling at him for having exorbitant showcases.
No, I do not -- and fair point. This could (which I stress) have been nullified slightly by adding a number of hours on a private jet as a separate prize, which has been done at least once before.

A private jet to somewhere else in the same state is nonetheless exorbitant. Having three-quarters of the Showcase prizes be a trip, on the other hand, reeks of nothing but laziness.

The above is my opinion and mine alone.

To answer your questions: yes, I am a guy and yes, I have a face. (I also have the occasional spurt of weirdness.)

Lucky 7: This game was bound to be unlucky with those numbers.
Do The Math: Were these 2 prizes used before at another edition of this, because I feel that it is.
Plinko: $500,000.  Should've seen this coming.  This game was bound to NOT hit the $100,000, or even get all 5 chips for that matter.  The bump up to one more 0 felt more like a curse than a blessing.
Side By Side: Nice setup, and nice win.
Gas Money: Is Gas Money. Enough said.
Grocery Game: It REALLY pains me when players are over by $1 or less.

Showcases: Great trips, but the way they showed it was somehow bland....

A trip to somewhere else in California again.

San Francisco is far enough from Los Angeles to be reasonably considered for a destination of interest for The Price is Right. I never like it when trips to say Six Flags at Magic Mountain are offered because that's not even an hour's drive away from the studio.

So...the real season premiere.  How much you guys wanna bet Lucky $even wasn't originally for a Fiat and wasn't originally set up for an early loss?

Plinko was just bizarre.

That girl who played Side by Side had to be on something.  Amazingly, she also appeared to be a Samoan.

Wow, Gas Money was actually set up fairly!

I am absolutely astounded that they managed to fit Grocery Game into this episode.

The Showcase had a total of four prizes in it.  Three of them were trips.  This part of the show just isn't interesting anymore.

Taping report!  So, not too much that you didn't see here.  No editing in of contestant reactions today (thankfully).

There was a stopdown between Lucky $even and Do the Math.  By the way, Lucky $even's reveal is really cool to see in person. ;)

While the rest of the audience was screaming about half-million Plinko, I could do nothing but roll my eyes.  How ridiculous.  I was impressed Clora got three of the four SPs.  I thought they'd be set up way harder than they were.  Then again, I tend to overanalyze SPs now because they're so often set up to be missed.

So the only major pick up that there was happened after Gas Money wrapped up.  They got the first four back in the Row and redid Drew's entrance.  Drew said it was because he went on "like three and a half minutes" at the beginning.  He did go on quite a bit about it being Big Money Week.  I believe what you saw had been edited even further to remove references to it being the beginning of the week.

Supplemental to that, there was an edit after the Showcase win of Drew mentioning highlights of the past week.  None of them had happened yet.

There was a minor edit in Grocery Game too.  After the GP plugs, Drew said something to the effect of, "Wonder what the theme is here?"

By the way, since they've moved the producers' table backstage, somebody now comes running out from behind the curtain with the difference to $21 written on a card. :P

There was also an edit to the second Showcase.  George didn't say the all-important line "a trip" on the second trip, so it sounded like the prize was a private island in the Seychelles.  I was confused for a moment (only because I knew it had to be a trip, but why didn't they say that?)

And while this taping was not as draining as the one I had attended the previous week, I had to force a smile on my face for most of the show.  It was my second trek to LA to see the show.  Perhaps the first-time experience of seeing the show in person was more scintillating than I expected, because at the end of the day, it's not the good ol' Price Is Right I knew and loved; and when you're not spending as much time looking at your surroundings in the studio because you have seen it from that angle once, it's harder to miss the lackluster production before your eyes.

Pretty bad today with Drew being the biggest offender. Between his phony gasps before reading the one-bid prices (which is not funny) to his repeated use of his standard uninterested crutches ("Where are you from? What do you do? How about that?" etc.), to some of his stupid comments (I'm pretty sure he called the final round of the show the "Showcase Showdown" when reading off that bucket list shirt - he's the host of the show!), to the outright lie that today's showcases were great (more below), I wouldn't be showing this episode to anyone to try and convince them that he's a good host of the show.

Drew mentioned in one of the breaks he just flew back to town last night from wherever the Sounders played the day before.  There's something to be said about getting a good night's sleep before you go to work the next day.

San Francisco is far enough from Los Angeles to be reasonably considered for a destination of interest for The Price is Right.

Yes, and I can attest the drive there following the Pacific Coast Highway is marvelous!

1. Tape and edit the show as if it were live.
2. Never tell the contestant what to do.
3. Size matters. (The bigger the prize, the better the prize and the bigger the reaction.)
4. All prizes are good.
5. Never do anything on the show that would embarrass a parent with a kid watching.
6. Never put on a prize that would make the show look cheap.
7. It’s the game, stupid! (It’s about the game.)

It's pretty sad that this is now something that can be said of a taping of The Price is Right.

I've always wanted to make the journey from Tennessee to Television City just for the experience of seeing The Price is Right in person, but after hearing about all of the forced reactions and editing that takes place in a typical show, I've lost interest in taking that trip. It's not the same show in person that's shown on television anymore, and I would rather not see all of the intricacies that go into making the show "perfect," at least from a production standpoint, and instead let it remain a mystery.
Pardon my language, but I do believe we all need to calm the f*** down.

It all depends on what you want out of the experience.  I look at it this way: If you don't enjoy the show enough to watch it everyday or even somewhat regularly, then you won't enjoy it in person.  If you want to see stuff from the studio angle, you may be rewarded.  As I said, the Lucky $even reveal is really cool to see in person.  It's also cool to see some of the behind-the-scenes stuff like how they cue Drew on the difference to $21 in the Grocery Game.  I also found, even with all the pictures from all angles we've seen over the years, the set was much smaller in person than I ever would have thought.

There are more games I'd like to see in person, but at this point, it's not worth the five-hour wait when you don't know what's on the other side.  I've been to four tapings, and I've seen One Wrong Price, Do the Math and That's too Much! twice.

I can think of many other game show related reasons to visit LA, even in this day and age, but that's another discussion for another thread.

I would still love to go for the experience of seeing the show from a studio perspective, but much of the nostalgia that once existed when I was growing up is no longer there, and it just doesn't seem worth making the long journey out to LA specifically for the purpose of seeing the show in person. If I wasn't in college and could afford to spend several days in LA to see all of the sights and sounds, then I would be planning the trip now or would have already taken it. Unfortunately, that's not the case, and a trip just to see Price in person isn't worth it to me anymore. That's not to say I wouldn't go if money wasn't an issue, which is something I should have pointed out in my earlier post.

To be fair, that's what was on the guy's shirt. His shirt mistakenly called it the Showcase Showdown, not Drew. And far be it from Drew to point out that the guy is wrong and make him look bad on TV.

Yeah, I was thinking that, too -- maybe Drew was just trying to be polite.  It was interesting to note that when James spun the wheel that all of those items were still not checked off on his shirt (maybe he forgot his Sharpie!).  I was really wondering how they would handle checking off both "Big Wheel" and "Showcase Showdown" at the same time, thus pointing out the error.

The Showcase had a total of four prizes in it.  Three of them were trips.  This part of the show just isn't interesting anymore.

Hmmm, so I'm not the only one who has lost interest in the Showcases...  I typically sit down and eat dinner while watching that day's TPIR on DVR; once the Showcases come on, I get up, take my dishes to the kitchen, and watch from the kitchen while rinsing the dishes off and putting them in the dishwasher, if that says anything!
