I wasn't surprised at the price of the second showcase - what part of "8-speed automatic transmission" did pretty much everybody else miss?

OTOH, a couple of things did surprise me:

They didn't make more of a big deal ("wrong show") out of the ACM awards; I was expecting at least one singer to make a guest appearance.  Was it that long ago that they had the models decked out in country gear (complete with "Footwear by Justin" in the credits)?  Until they played the music, I wasn't sure if the second showcase was going to involve the ACM, the Final Four, or neither one.

$3000 for that TV (in One Right Price)?  Maybe if it was an outdoor TV, I could believe it.

It was an eight-speed?  I was going blind in chat today, so that'd explain that.
Torgo has left the building. John and I never really cared for the way he presented himself.

  • I deserve this.
There are only three letters in the alphabet that come to mind when it came to those Showcases:

WTF

I mean, for God's sakes!! It's hard to believe that both of them were worth $36K+.............It's even more unbelievable that a crappy-looking boat on SC1 would help add up to be $36K+. I really thought the boat would be cheaper. Then again, I could probably understand SC2 with that monster-sized Ram.

And here's something else that has me vexed: In earlier seasons, as ThatDonGuy pointed out, TPIR really used to go all out (I mean, REALLY go all out) when it comes to the ACM Awards. You see the audience, Drew, George, and the models dressing up in country music apparel and bring out music stars to help out contestants.....................Now, it has been dumbed down to just a Showcase. And that's pretty.........sad. It's a really a tribute when it implies to the whole show and not just a certain part of it...........And I find it funny (and not in a good way, whatsoever) that they would put all of that emphasis on this season's Grammy special (despite how poorly executed that was) but not give a rat's butt about this particular awards show. I don't know why Mike and Co. decide to make this the end result passable: Does Mike hate country music? Is the show too budget-ridden now (after giving away a Audi) to even make this episode entertaining? Much less, watchable? I honestly have no idea what was Mike's goal in this episode, but I do know this was not the way to go. I mean, at least get Blake Shelton as guest..............He is one of the host of this year's ACM Awards. I wouldn't mind if that happen. Just putting in a CBS soap star is hardly enough.......If, at all. While I'm not really heavy on country music, I consider the ball dropped and shattered to pieces on this one. Sorry for expressing my feelings towards this, but I called it like I see it today.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Two easy wins on CoG and TT................So it was hardly anything to hoot and holler about. Although, the TV theme on C-U was cool. And I called out John getting a $1.00 after losing on 5PT. Let's see how the 8000th show will do.

Fourth consecutive playing of 5 Price Tags in which the contestant guessed "False" in all of their choices. *Sigh* Dunno whether the prizes are tricky, the contestants are too suspicious or both.
"Audience, if you're scared buy a dog!"

It's been a trend for as long as I can remember that contestants pick "False" more often than "True" - and as a result the show sets it up so that usually 3 out of 4 are "True" to protect the car from being won.
"Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better." - Sydney J. Harris

“For the premiere of season 30, CBS wanted to do a special primetime show. However, they asked that we also add a gimmick or a twist to make it truly special. I came up with the suggestion of taking the show on the road for the first time in its history." - Roger Dobkowitz

It's kinda like the game itself has some sort of Jedi mind trick:

"You will say 'False' on the pocket sized reader. You will say 'False' on the breakfast maker. You will say 'False' on the blender. You will say 'False' on the cotton candy maker."

Just joking, of course.

Oh, I know. This has been going on practically since the game debut in 1972. It just seems to have gotten worse. I would love to be on the show and guess "True" just to see the looks on the producer's faces.

All Rams come with the 8-spd auto. Higher gearing = better fuel economy (it's how they're kinda cheating the CAFE numbers).  I believe someone is working on a 9-spd.

ObPrice: Stop guessing all False on 5PT.

And again with the first prize being False?  That's two in a row after I suggested that "the first prize in 5PT is True" is pretty much a rule.

Not too bad today overall. Games were fairly setup except for the usual tricky Cover Up, in which I was a dollar off in chat, and ORP was set up for a loss given the $3000+ Washer and Dryers we've seen recently. The showcases were the selling point of today's show, and the explaining for what to only bid on was clearly explained by Drew, and it shouldn't be surprising with Robert after playing Clock Game with its own Bonus. It would interesting if the "False" concept in 5PT evolved into a new game with "Greater than, equal to, or less than" game that combines H/L and T/F pricing elements, since that would be more interesting since IMO a proper 5PT player should view if they feel if the price is EITHER higher or lower, and if it doesn't feel like it, guess true. CoG had a slight blooper with the sliding numbers which gave me a small laugh. The TPIR on TV through the years was a cool idea, reminds me of Sesame Street's 35th anniversary with the changing TV. CoG and Take Two had pretty good wins otherwise. Guessing downward in Clock Game one buck at a time is not good strategy IMO, and it cost Robert. Good to see a pair of $30K showcases. The first one was high because trips near Africa are expensive, and combined with a decent Arizona trip around $5-$6K and a sailboat, it isn't going to be cheap. The second had a nice hotel in Nashville and a truck not just with the 8-speed AT, but a couple of option packages.

Show Grade: C

Aside from the Ram, King suites at the Opryland Hotel are also really, really expensive, especially for 6 nights. Even a standard room will run you a good $150 minimum per night (maybe more than that, actually). But it's by far the most extravagant hotel in Nashville, so it's to be expected.

$150 per night is nothing, lol. That hotel has historically been anywhere between $7,000 - $9,000, usually closer to $7,500-$8,000. (Which is not too expensive of a trip for the show) It was definitely the Ram, it gets under-priced due to the fact that there are other similar trucks that are much cheaper, and people tend to under-price trucks in general. Not to mention the amount of options they pumped into this baby.
