Second day of 12th Season: Sep. 13, 1983
« on: February 26, 2007, 03:14:15 PM »
Yep, I finally did another recap! This time out, I picked an episode with some funny exchanges and incidents. And here’s a rare occurrence; I didn’t realize it until I finished this recap, but all nine of today’s contestants were female! Well, on we go.

It is September 13, 1983. Child’s Play is on its last legs, to be replaced next week by a new game show called Press Your Luck. Eurythmics and Culture Club are enjoying chart success. And The Price Is Right airs the second episode of its 12th season…

“Here it comes! Television’s most exciting hour of fantastic prizes! The fabulous 60-minute Price Is Right!

Cynthia Gerrigan, COME ON DOWN!
Diane Fox, COME ON DOWN!
Mary Ann Ponti, COME ON DOWN!
Barabara Hoss, COME ON DOWN!

Bob remarks it is the second show of their twelfth year. He mentions that he has no writers, but one of Richard Dawson’s writers talked to him just before the show. Bob asked him for a funny line, and the writer told him to look at the balloons and say “Looks like fallout from Disneyland!” Bob wasn’t too fond of the line. ;)

Item #1: Sierra wood-burning stove
Barbara-$559
Mary Ann-$275
Diane-$350
Cynthia-$575

ARP: $689
Cynthia’s our first winner of the day! Bob asks “Did you realize [Richard Dawson] was funny in spite of his writers? ” Cynthia’s response? “I don’t like him!”

On that note, we show Cynthia what she’s playing for…a new car! It’s an AMC CJ-4 jeep!

We’re playing Lucky Seven for that jeep.

Her guess for the first digit is 7.
And…it’s 7!
No loss there.

Cynthia guesses the second digit is 8
And…it’s 6.
She loses two bucks, and has five left over.

She believes 5 is the third digit.
It’s…4.
She loses a dollar, and has four left.

She says that 6 is the last digit.
And it’s…9
Cynthia loses three bucks…and has one left to buy the jeep! Congratulations!

“Darlene Campbell, COME ON DOWN!”

Item #2: Hardwick gas range
Darlene-$775
Barbara-$600
Mary Ann-$645
Diane-$675

ARP: $745

Diane wins it! And she has a chance to win…

…up to $10,000 in cash in Punch-A-Bunch!

Watkins Walnut Spice Rack, priced at $20
Diane says it’s higher
ARP: $31. RIGHT!

Hoover Decade 80 Vacuum Cleaner, priced at $120
Diane says it’s lower
ARP: $150. Wrong!

The Ready-Lite Rechargeable Flashlight, priced at $45
Diane says it’s lower
ARP: $30. RIGHT!

Ekco Non-stick Bakeware, priced at $18
Diane says it’s higher
ARP: $29. RIGHT!

Time for her punches! First she punches the third one in the second row…then the fifth one in the third row…then finally the sixth one in the second row.

Her first punch net her…$250!
She gives it back.

Her second punch gives her…$1,000!
And…Diane keeps it!

Had she decided to go on, she would’ve won…$500! Good playing, Diane!

“Ann Bothingham, COME ON DOWN!”

Item #3: Michael C. Fina clock
Ann-$225
Darlene-$275
Barbara-$269
Mary Ann-$280

ARP: $400

Mary Ann gets the clock, and is playing Race Game! The four price tags are…$360, $688, $840, and $972. And they belong to…

…season tickets to the home games of the L.A. Dodgers, L.A. Kings, L.A. Lakers, & L.A. Raiders!

Bob remarks that he hoped he’d get a sports fan for these type of prizes. Mary Ann turned to him asked “What do the Kings do?” She said it looked like they played either soccer or hockey. Bob told her “Well, they don’t use sticks in soccer!”

Ready…set…go!

Dodgers: $840
Kings: $360
Lakers: $688
Raiders: $972
Number right: 0!
Time left: 34

Dodgers: $972
Kings: $688
Lakers: $360
Raiders: $840
Number right: 2!
Time left: 17

And even though she frantically runs around, making her switches by the reactions of the audience…she ends up making no changes as the clock hits 0.

The right prices were:
Dodgers: $972
Kings: $688
Lakers: $840
Raiders: $360

So Mary Ann will be going to see the Dodgers and the Kings. Good thing she knows what the Kings do now. ;)

Showcase Showdown #1!
Diane: gets 95, excitedly stays
Mary Ann: gets 40, spins again to get 65, final total: 105. Ouch!
Cynthia: gets 35, spins again to get 70, final total: 105. Double ouch!

Diane wins!

“Ophelia Sanders, COME ON DOWN!”

Item #4: A Welsh hutch made of Ponderosa pine, brought out by the TPIR train!
Ophelia-$675
Ann-$800
Darlene-$900
Barbara-$801

ARP: $865

And Barbara makes it up! She’ll play 1 Right Price for…

A bar shaped like a two-headed elephant (no kidding!)…
and a Flexsteel sofa!

So which one is $1080?

Barbara thinks it’s the sofa. And the sofa is…

…$950! Sorry Barbara!

The bar’s price is revealed to be…$108! The zero fell off!

Bob remarks that the Phone Home Game will be played tomorrow, and to be sure to watch! Then it’s time for another name from Johnny…

“Ann Shimamura, COME ON DOWN!”
Now we’ve got two Anns in contestants row!

Item #5: Two Mt. Vernon rocking chairs from Albert M. Lock. The winner also gets a supply of Boss Gloves!
Ann S.-$485
Ophelia-$675
Ann B.-$500
Darlene-$501

Oops, they’ve all overbid! Let’s try it again, going lower than $485 this time…

Ann S.-$380
Ophelia-$381
Ann B.-$340
Darlene-$300

And…now someone’s exactly right! It’s the one who bid…
…$340! Ann B. reaches into the $100 pocket, to collect her cash, then we see her prize.

It’s a new car! The very spiffy Dodge 400 Convertible!

And Ann won’t be playing the Dice Game for it…she’ll be playing Deluxe Dice Game!

First number is: 1
First roll: 4, goes lower
Second roll: 3, goes higher
Third roll: 1, goes higher
Fourth roll: 5, goes lower

The second number is a 1…but since they light it up in the top window, Bob thinks she’s lost! He realizes the mistake and they continue.

The third number is 5…lit up in the BOTTOM window! Bob says “What are you doing back there? That’s a five! A five is higher than a three!”

The fourth number is 6…lit up in the right window this time.

Before the fifth number is revealed, Bob reminds the board operators “If it’s not a six, it’s lower than 5!” And…it’s a 4!

After that tortuous reveal, Ann wins a $11,564 car!

“Michelle Wright, COME ON DOWN!”

Item #6: White-Westinghouse family-size frost-free refrigerator. Winner also gets KFC gift certificates and a thermal bag to keep chicken fresh!
Michelle-$800
Darlene-$850
Ann S.-$825
Ophelia-$860

ARP: $820

Michelle’s our winner! And she has a chance to win an Aeolian Cabaret player piano worth $4,499!

To get that piano, she has to play Now and Then. Then is April 1979.

Today’s Products:
Pillsbury Deluxe Fudge brownie mix, priced at $1.21
Del Monte fruit cocktail mix, priced at .51
Lawry’s Teriyaki Marinade, priced at .69
Mello Mint Peppermint Pattie, priced at .35
Rice-A-Roni long grain & wild rice, priced at $1.29
Foille first aid ointment, priced at $1.89

Michelle picks the pattie and says it was .35 Then.
It’s Now.

She then takes the ointment, saying it’s $1.89 Now.
It’s Now!

Michelle almost picks the teriyaki…until Bob tells her she can’t win with that yet! So instead, she picks the rice, and says it’s $1.29 Now.
It’s Now!

All she needs is the fudge mix to win the game. She says it’s $1.21 Now, and…
It’s Then.

Well, she can’t get three-in-a-row anymore, so the player piano’s out of the question. Oh well.

Showcase Showdown #2!
Michelle: gets 90, stays
Barbara: gets 70, spins again to get 65, final total: 135.
Ann: gets 95!

Ann wins it!

It’s now time for the Showcases. Ann is the top winner, Diane is the runner-up.

Showcase 1: Ways to get a little sunshine
3 Swimsuits, all from Seas Fashions of California
Vandicraft redwood patio furniture
Falcon gas grill
Carlson 16” ski boat with Suzuki motor

Ann passes it, Diane bids $7,500

Showcase 2: No theme
St John’s Import & Export Bedroom Group
Whisper Soft Mills Bedding, with Bemco Posture III mattress
Trip to Hawaii (7-day luxury cruise of Hawaiian Islands)
French of California luggage set

Ann bids $3,000, amid much groaning

So who’s today’s winner?

Ann bid $3,000, ARP of Ann’s Showcase: $7,412
It’s a difference of $4,412

Diane bid $7,500, ARP of Diane’s Showcase: $12,100
Diane begins celebrating, but her math is off…

…because it’s a difference of $4,600, and it’s not enough to beat Ann! Ann wins her showcase, taking home $19,442 in prizes.

And so ends day 2 of season 12. Hope you enjoyed it! ^^

Very nice job, bud!

A couple questions:

Did Bob plug The Phone Home Game before or after the mid-break?

Are Dice Game and Now....and Then still using their original color schemes?

I think I know the answer to this one, but is the original Race Game Curtain still there?

Thanks a bunch. ^^ Glad you liked it!

-Bob plugged it after the break; right before Johnny called Ann S. down to Contestant's Row.
-Dice Game is still white & red, but Now And Then has its second color scheme.
-The original Race Game curtain was still there.
