As is usual with Clock Game, the price of the trip was not revealed. We’ve seen a very similar trip to the same hotel previously this season, on October 19’s playing of Coming or Going. The only difference was that that trip included a private sight-seeing tour. That trip cost $6,818, so I will use that as an estimated price. Either way, based on the fact that Stephen spun first, we know the trip costs less than $7,216.

I hadn't really thought about this before, but the reality of death means that every day there are less people in the world than the day before.  In reality there are many more people in the world than this but for illustration: If one day there are 1000 people in the world and the next day 55 people die, now there are 945 people in the world. if 30 more die the next day now there are 915 people in the world. So we'll eventually become extinct as will all creatures as the same reality applies to dogs, cats, horses etc.

I'll admit, this was a great show! I was absolutely uncertain if Clock Game was going to be won, but I'm glad it was!

I was surprised hearing that price. When was the last time a twelve thousand dollar was offered on the show?

I'd like to see that car offered in Lucky $even. :)

For comparison's sake, in Spelling Bee's debut in 1988, the car offered (and won) was around the $12,000 range.

EDIT: ARP was $12,346. It was a Jeep Cherokee 2-door wagon.

Oh, I get the joke. Instead of bidding $9,001 (such an outdated meme), Patricia decided to split them between two bids just to be clever. ;)

...or maybe someone needs a lesson in bidding after an absurdly high bid.

I'd put it in the running for cheapest car ever on the show, even after adjusting for inflation. The Nissan Versa is the cheapest car on sale in the USA at $11,990, and here they threw on an option worth under $900.

Actually, there are no options whatsoever with this Versa. The extra $825 is the "destination charge", which is included in the price of all cars offered on the show.

Per usinflationcalculator.com, $11,990 in 2016 would've been $2,113.70 in 1972. So it's in the running, but not the cheapest overall (could've sworn I'd read about a car that was $1,700-something in 1972, only ever offered as part of a Showcase).

Mr. Gavazzi mentioned it quite a few years ago, yes:

I can't prove that this is the cheapest car ever offered, but I'd stake good money that it was: The Honda 600 sedan. Used only in the Showcase (for reasons that will be obvious once you finish this sentence), it cost $1,715.
Per this post from 2008, it first appeared on the November 3, 1972 show (#0095D). US Inflation Calculator says that $1,715 in 1972 would be $9,728.36 today, far below the aforementioned Nissan Versa base price.
The above is my opinion and mine alone.

To answer your questions: yes, I am a guy and yes, I have a face. (I also have the occasional spurt of weirdness.)

Although I'm sure the car Steve told us about certainly is cheaper, relatively, to the Versa from this show, you can't go by inflation calculators for everything. They work on an overall average. Different items prices inflate at different rates. Car prices have gone up more in comparison to other things. A 2016 car comparable to the Vega station wagon from the debut episode would certainly be worth more than the $15,576 price tag the inflation calculator would put on it.

Tice, can you estimate how much Spelling Bee's car would have cost in 1972 dollars?

(I was surprised as hell when I heard that price, too.)
