TPIR Recap - 05/24/2016 (Primetime - Big Brother Special)
« on: May 24, 2016, 10:17:25 PM »
For the first time in nearly 8 years (the last time being the 2008 Veterans' Day special), The Price is Right is airing in primetime. Pairs of an audience member and a past contestant from the show that the special is about (in today's case, Big Brother) will be called on down. There are less commercial breaks, guest models from that show, and more expensive prizes being offered. In addition, several pricing games are getting remodels for the specials.

I hadn't really thought about this before, but the reality of death means that every day there are less people in the world than the day before.  In reality there are many more people in the world than this but for illustration: If one day there are 1000 people in the world and the next day 55 people die, now there are 945 people in the world. if 30 more die the next day now there are 915 people in the world. So we'll eventually become extinct as will all creatures as the same reality applies to dogs, cats, horses etc.

No matter how you slice it, playing Pick A Number on a primetime special is rotten.

I beg to differ. I think in this instance, it deserves at least a little pass. You have to remember, they're having to compensate for the longer call-downs, elimination ceremonies at the wheel, plugs, etc. They're going to have a throw some cheap quickie in there, no matter if it's Side By Side, Double Prices, or PaN. Don't get me wrong—it would be more preferable to see something a little more exciting get played, but I certainly understand why they did what they did.

Quick 1-prize games are always played at least once or twice in primetime specials, and Pick a Number has been played more with Drew than it was most of the time with Bob so it wasn't that strange to see it played. Another primetime first, along with Vend-O-Price although of course it only premiered this season.

I liked the new cash values for Plinko. I hope it carries over to daytime.

Push Over and Vend O Price were both very easy, and One Away wasn't that difficult either.

The Showcases were definitely more suited for primetime tonight than last night.

So is playing L7 and TTM in the same primetime show, and having Cover be a standard really hard setup.

It's these little things Mike will never get. At least the SCs were appropriately large.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

Tonight had its moments, but the lineup was sub-par, at best. I probably would have enjoyed the show more if I was a Big Brother fan, but alas, I am not.

Drew not mentioning the increased dollar amounts in Plinko is a bit concerning, but I still believe there is a decent chance we'll be seeing them carried over to daytime eventually, perhaps next season. It doesn't make any sense why they would go through the trouble to have the slots made only to use them once, even with the backing of the primetime budget.
Pardon my language, but I do believe we all need to calm the f*** down.

I'm optimistic about Plinko's increased values being carried over to daytime.

I didn't mind seeing Pick-a-Number here, though it is odd to see the same game three consecutive days.

Will and Bryan did a nice job working out the process in Vend-o-Price.

While Plinko was spoiled, I was surprised not to see Pay the Rent, since it has a "House"

This is the first time I've noticed the " * WIN *"  light at the bottom of the vending machine.

Do we know if all of the BB alum are getting some sort of small donation to their charity?    We know the SC winner gets something.   I'd just find it hard to believe that they'd do it for nothing.

Man did I want to hear Zing-bot do one of the SC"s.

I like the new distribution in Plinko.  Hopefully this will help with the game's extreme recent stinginess.

Always nice to see One Away, and that was a really generous setup.  Same for Vend-O-Price.

Pick a Number in primetime?  I don't mind the game nearly as much as some seem to, but really?  Did something else break down or were they worried about time or something?  Squeeze Play would have been preferable here.

Much nicer showcases tonight.

As for the rest...it was a decent show but not nearly as fun as Monday's show, for whatever reason.  Didn't quite have the same energy.

I thought at first the new Plinko values had been around for a while and I had just missed the change. Turned out they were brand new for tonight. Hopefully they'll become permanent. They should have increased the center slot to $20,000 for a primetime show but I'm okay with it.

Again, though, the Big Brother house guests added little to the show. Not sure why they weren't given a bigger role. I understand you don't want to intrude on the actual contestants' experience, but if they're going to all the trouble to bring the reality show contestants on, they ought to do more than stand and clap.

Didn't they make new slots for that all-Plinko special that they never used again?
