CBS Television City while TPIR is on Hiatus
« on: May 01, 2017, 09:40:49 AM »
Hi Guys...We will be traveling to L.A. & Frisco for our Honeymoon, starting 6/12-6/21. We'll be in L.A. from 6/12-6/17, and, of course, as one of the world's greatest TPIR (Barker & Original Beauties) fans, CBS TV City & BB Studio/Studio 33 are MUST SEES on our list. Of course, I've only been waiting my entire life to see a taping of TPIR, but, they are on their Summer Hiatus when we'll be there! My question is, though, although I know the TV City Gift Shop is always open, but, since they do not do any type of tours, does anyone know if they will let you walk through TV City, or, at the very least, allow you to visit Studio 33 (with TPIR Set in place, hopefully!) and take pictures, and snapshots of the plaques that salute Bob and Carol Burnett (The Carol Burnett/Studio 33 Foyer)? I mean, I can always go back when they're taping, with tix, but, right now, it's a "once in a lifetime trip"! Please Help!

Bold font doesn't make you a bigger fan. The rest of the post left unencumbered.

Hi,
Unless you have some connection with someone involved with one of the shows that tapes there, I believe you're out of luck.  They simply don't conduct tours to the public.

Even if you were to get to visit, in June the TPIR set will have been struck and replaced with (I think) Bill Maher. However, you would be able to see various TPIR props in storage (various games, the Big Wheel, etc)  I believe the last TPIR show for Season 45 was taped on 4/5.    Season 46 will begin taping sometime in July for original air dates that will begin around the third week in Sept.

Congrats on your wedding.

Thank you! Does anyone else know or have a reply? At the very least, if nothing else, I at least would like to get pics of the Dedication Plaques that name Studio 33 "The Bob Barker Studio", and "The Carol Burnett Foyer" (going into the Studio).

Priac is correct...they couldn't possibly accommodate the number of people who'd want to wander around taking photos, etc. Even when I went there with an affiliate in the 1990s, we had to have a CBS escort with us at all times...even affiliate employees weren't allowed to wander around unsupervised.

That was my experience too. We were guests of the show after we completed the DVD game (I went later because I could not make it when the rest of the crew went). We got seats right behind contestant's row and then, I got to meet a couple of the producers and got a tour of back stage and the storage area where they kept all of the game set pieces. (Man I wish I had access to all of that before I did all of the 3D modeling and animation -  wound up relying in part on a whole lot of the photos here on TGR.net for reference material). It was pretty cool, a great experience. Man, what a well-oiled machine that production is. It was amazing to watch it all unfold live. From what I can tell, it is pretty much shot "live to tape" with minimal post production except where needed for time or serious mess-ups.

Even if the show taped at that time, the staff confiscates recording devices and cell phones before you reach that point.
Torgo has left the building. John and I never really cared for the way he presented himself.
