That sure was a messed-up 10 Chances, and it proves that just because you got the first prize in one try doesn't mean that you will win all three, and all those obviously incorrect guesses cost Derek a shot at the car.

If what happened in Pass the Buck (winning the car after completely bombing on the GPs) wasn't a miracle, I don't know what is.

10 Chances! Pass The Buck! Two of my favorite games on the same episode! :-D    Quite the contrast though. Fantastic lucky win in Buck; not even one try for the car in 10 Chances. Perhaps Derek would have won the coffee package sooner if he knew "The Zero Rule" and/or hadn't been stuck on "6" or "8" for the first digit for so long. I'll admit that it didn't look that expensive to me either.

I believe we have the most expensive 2nd prize ever used in Ten Chances ( with the zero rule ) , anything after that will be tie due to no repeating digits.
Today was the 1st time since 4/18/2014 , when a contestant won the car in Pass The Buck with only 1 pick and not earned any more picks. It's only the 5th time ( since Season 32 ) this has happened.

I was worried we'd have the most dreaded occurrence in 10 Chances: winning only 1 prize.  Fortunately despite making some bad guesses it didn't happen as Derek won the coffee package on chance 10.  Even though Zachary guessed some really high prices luckily he recovered quickly to get a win with plenty of time left.  In Pass the Buck I had a feeling the bread would be right for the 1st grocery set as having 2 items with the same cost would've been strange.  For the 2nd set I knew it was the fudge due to seeing the Tarn-X used in a recent Grand Game playing.  Evelyn got lucky she picked the car with only 1 chance.  Also in response to TinoStar11 there have been other times when $980 2nd prizes were used in 10 Chances.  Similarly they've also used $90 1st prizes(the most expensive that prize can be) and even at least once(12/13/02) used prizes that were both $90 and $980.

One of the flaws of Pass The Buck was exposed today - the contestant can do horrendously on the only pricing portion and still walk away with the car.

I know they tweaked it from the first setup with three earned picks and eight numbers. In my mind, it would be ideal to go back to the 6 GP's but I understand that in the current environment that might not be possible.

Would 2 earned picks and 5 numbers work (throw out the $3,000)? Sure it's a bummer if they don't earn a pick, but it's the same disappointment as Master Key when everybody is standing around the keys and Drew has to throw to commercial because the game suddenly ended.

Is it really a flaw?

I'd require them to earn at least one pick to have a shot at the car. In cases like today, before they make their one free pick, I'd expose where the car is, tell them it's out of play, then let them pick one number to try to walk away with some cash.

But if the same thing happened in 1/2 Off, I'd wager we'd all be talking about how exciting a finish it was.

It'll happen once in a blue moon, but as long as it's not happening like five times a season, I can't say I'm bothered by it.
Quote from: Bill Todman
"The sign of a good game, is when you don't have to explain it every day. The key is not simplicity, but apparent simplicity. Password looks like any idiot could have made it up, but we have 14 of our people working on that show. There is a great complexity behind the screen. It requires great work to keep it simple."

That's an awful idea. The game isn't broken.

Similar to getting no extra picks in Spelling Bee and going for it and picking one of the CAR cards, or winning $10,000 on a 1/16 chance in 1/2 Off.  In some games it's possible to win despite failing completely at the pricing portion, and that's OK.  It happens so rarely that it's exciting when it does happen.

I guess I'm the only person who noticed the awesome graphics on the car backdrops in the second showcase.  It looked like they were trying to replicate Password!

Also, Clock Game!  Clock Game is always worth getting excited about!

Wasn't this episode supposed to air on 12/14?  I didn't notice anything in it that would suggest that a move was necessary (like the 2015 Cinco de Mayo episode that didn't air until August because it included a trip to Nepal two weeks after a major earthquake hit that area).
