Quite easily the best show of the year! And kudos to Drew for mentioning El Cheapo, as well as the (sort of) Play Along revival during Plinko!

Today's show felt more like a Fan Appreciation show, sprinkled in with a few super fan tricks. As shown by the kids shows a few weeks ago , having them involved in games is a cool idea.

In defense of the contestant,  picking "el Cheapo" has not always been the winning selection.
In fact, according to TPIR Stats, between Seasons 29 and 45, El Cheapo has been on the board 70 times, and has been the correct choice 48 of those times.  68% is better than 50/50 but far from a can't-miss strategy.

Doesn't matter if it's correct or not. If El Cheapo is on the board, you pick it regardless, just to get it outta the way.

Do they ever bring up El Cheapo on the air anymore? I feel like that's one of the things that Drew did not carry on from the old days. (But I haven't been watching a lot lately.)

Is that a more recent development? The only occasion where I remember the words "El Cheapo" being said during my time there was when one contestant identified it sometime around 2012 or 2013.

Haven't gotten to watch in forever, but I popped in to read based on what I saw in FPG.

They really doubled down on the references to try and get a win in Money Game, didn't they? Not only was it El Cheapo, but also The Ol' Front 'n' Back... at least Push for a car was won?

Do they ever bring up El Cheapo on the air anymore? I feel like that's one of the things that Drew did not carry on from the old days. (But I haven't been watching a lot lately.)

Maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t picking a remaining number just to get it out of the way using up a precious pick?

By now, nost of us know:
-Out of the 9 choices, usually 3 (sometimes only 2) are realistic choices for the first 2 numbers
-If you’re smart/lucky enough to pick the first 2 numbers on your first pick
You have 4 remaining chances to choose from the remaining 8 numbers on the board.
-you can immediately eliminate the 2 other “first two numbers” possibilties.  So now you actually have 6 numbers left and still 4 chances to pick it.
- now you can eliminate the top center choice which coincides with the current season year.  I believe that’s been a correct choice once in as long as I can remember.  So, now you have 5 possible numbers left and still 4 choices.
-now, very infrequently - I believe once or twice per season, does either digit in the last 2 numbers of the car match the middle number.  So you’re eliminating at least one more possible choice- leaving yourself 4 picks with 4 remaining highly realistic choices.

Of course, one needs to pick the first 2 numbers on their first choice (not that difficult) , and they also need to hope the very rare occasions of the season number being correct or a digit from the last 2 numbers matching the center digit doesn’t occur.

And even if one of these 2 events occur, it just lowers the odds of winning, but does not eliminate them.

Therefore, since El Cheapo is the correct choice only 68% of the time (it’s wrong 32% of the time), I wouldn’t necessarily pick it just to get it out of the way.

I think this strategy makes Money Game very winnable.  Other very winnable games if you watch a lot:  Cliffhangers (25,35,45, duh)Range Game (price is almost always even with the “E” in Range and the “G” in Game), 10 Chances (if I have to explain).  Other very winnable games: Clock Game (a monkey can win clock game) and To a lesser extent Race Game (if you have a basic knowledge of prices; eg Tvs almost always end in 00).
