Automotive tycoon Lee Iacocca, a legend at both Ford and Chrysler, has passed on at 94.
With his passing, is there a list that could be made of episodes where a couple of his product ideas -- the Dodge Aries/Plymouth Reliant, and the Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Voyager -- were offered as game show prizes?
Ones that immediately come to mind:
•
1981: "Face the Music," where both the Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant sedans went to five-day champions.
•
1985: "The Price Is Right," where the station wagon models of the Dodge Aries was offered as a prize. There are several clips on YouTube, including one of the nighttime (Kennedy-hosted) TPiR where a contestant wins a $12,139 wagon in Range Game, and a June 1985 daytime show featuring the car in the short-lived "On the Nose" game.
•
1987-1988: "High Rollers" offered the prize both in mini-games and (briefly) as a five-day prize.
I'm sure many of Iacocca's other cars, both at Ford and Chrysler, that he had a direct hand in developing were prizes through the years. And the winners of said cars had many happy miles and thanks to the man who helped really give Ford many better ideas and saved Chrysler.
RIP.
